>‘Acceptable Ads Platform’ will let advertisers reach users of ad blockers, with help from Google and AppNexus
>Eyeo GmbH, the company behind the popular online ad blocking software Adblock Plus, said Tuesday it’s launching an online advertising service to help marketers place “acceptable” ads in front of users with ad blockers turned on.
>Eyeo has partnered with ad tech firm ComboTag to create an automated ad marketplace, often referred to as an ad exchange, the companies said. Publishers can sign up for the marketplace, called the “Acceptable Ads Platform,” and use it to sell and place ad space on their webpages.
>“Acceptable ads” are allowed to pass through Adblock Plus’s filters by default, provided they aren’t too intrusive or disruptive to users. The Acceptable Ads Platform will contain only ads that abide by its Acceptable Ads criteria, which dictate the size, placement and labelling of ads, Eyeo said.
>Google Inc. and ad tech specialist AppNexus will also have a hand in helping to sell ad space from the new platform, by offering it up to potential buyers through their own online ad exchanges.
if you have not switched to ublock.. now is the time to do so.

Adblock Plus should rename itself to Ad Plus.

Ads need to go the way of the dinosaur.
I'm offended by advertisements. It's all mostly Jewish shilling trying to brainwash me into buying shit that I don't need by putting catchy tunes and imagery into my head that I don't forget fast enough.
Is Ublock Origin good? I'm on Firefox and considering dropping Adblock Plus over this nonsense.
Andrew Campbell
this is a good thing.
Logan Russell
What is wrong with an acceptable ads policy? If anything, this will cause advertisers to make less intrusive ads and make the web a better place. Advertising still remains the primary way for websites to sustain themselves financially.
Liam Wilson
uBlock Origin is shit. It only hides ads instead of actually blocking them.
Lincoln Collins
as long as its not an html 5 video ad or flash ad. and isnt a popup. then its ok right guys?
Anthony Hall
Fuck off. Why do people think they are entitled to money just because a lot of people use their website? Fucking jews. If their website was so fucking great they wouldn't need ads. People would gladly pay a subscription to access it.
Landon Wright
>Ads need to go the way of the dinosaur.
When was the last time you donated to support a website? If you can't remember, then that's why ads still exist on the web.

Their block lists are of lower quality than adblock plus too and it routinely trips up anti-adblock scripts. These things never ever get fixed. I still use it anyway. Really wish they would get their shit together.

how do I change my ublock logo to this?
Alexander Cooper
my browser stutters big time and pretty much stops to a crawl with them kind of ads. i say a banner ad is better then an anti adblock message forcing me to turn off adblock to view there sites
Jordan Bennett
ublock is only a temporary solution. It is only a matter of time until they begin to criminalize filter maintainers like torrent site owners.
Christian Reed
>It is only a matter of time until they begin to criminalize filter maintainers like torrent site owners.
Piracy is already a crime.

AND no open in tab ads. i HATE them. especially when they open in place of the original site and move your site to a different tab automatically

I agree with this. I want my favorite youtube channels to get revenue but not from me, from other plebeian people. There are to many people out there that spread knowledge around. I wouldn't even tell my own mother about adblocking software. Someone has to view the adds. You faggots that do otherwise ruing it for the rest of us. Just like Napster, KAT, Supernova, etc.

it's lost. They pay for a huge infrastructure, servers, upgrade hardware, pay their engineers. They offer a free service. So, they expect a return only from ads.
Isaiah Wood
The ad networks and the websites that use them have collectively fucked themselves over. It's kinda like over fishing. All parties want to maximize their own revenue by putting out most distracting ads possible. But together doing so they exhaust the pool, people start blocking ads, now there is less fish for everyone to share.

I have a foolproof way of making a website display ads without any way to block them short of not visiting the website. How much money do you think I could make from this idea? Millions?
David Gray
>earned
You keep using that word. If people who use a product without giving money to the entity behind it is determining that a company has not "earned" the revenue and doesn't deserve it simply because the user says so, then how is it different than going to the store, taking something without paying and citing that the company has not "earned" the revenue as the reason you haven't paid for it?
Dylan Carter

Do you have any proof that it merely hides ads? Reminder that the source code is freely available.
Daniel Jackson
No.
Shut the fuck up idiot. You don't even know my idea and since it can monetized I won't share it.
No. It won't look different and no functionality will be lost. It doesn't depend on any script and it doesn't generate a pattern that can be included in a filter list.
David Davis
Do you whitelist any websites you like?
For example, I have Reddit whitelisted (though I'm a gold member so it doesn't really even matter anyway). I just think it's virtuous to give back to websites that have served you well.
Austin White
If i does not depend on a script, then functionality will be lost. How else will you measure clicks?
Joseph Morgan

The best kind of ads are the ones that integrate directly into the website. These aren't intrusive at all and are actually quite pleasant. Much better than the animated Flash ads with sound.

You've seen one anime, you've seen them all. The plotlines are overly cliche, the dialogue is cringy ("I'll take a potato chip... and EAT IT!"), it's just something you're in when you're a pre-teen and then something you grow out of.
Cameron Sanchez
It is free though. If you want better quality service you need to pay but honestly I spent more per month on mountain dew before I quit drinking it than I do on my server from scaleway. It's so fucking cheap now and cloudflare offers a free CDN service as well.
There are other ways to make money. Before hulkamania ran wild on them Gawker compiled lists of discounted products from online shops that offer commissions. I actually bought something from one of those posts once. I'm far more likely to buy something shilled that way than some fucking ad that popped up while I was trying to read an article.
Zachary Cooper
i'm a bit anxious and a faggot
Jaxson King
You're not stealing from a businbess, you're exposing a gaping hole in their master plan to make money without actually making anything worth paying for.
Ad companies already know people can just change the channel, look away, and block ads. They don't care. The mass exposure means someone will look and care. The advertisers themselves don't really have a problem. Ad blockers and people fast-forwarding through DVR recordings have yet to destroy them financially.
However, the dumbasses trying to make all their money off ads alone because fuck working hard to make something high quality? They care, a lot. Like hobos on the street whining when nobody gives them a dollar after their shitty guitar solo.
Nathan Cruz
There is a difference between clicking on a link and actually visiting the webpage itself.

While we are on the topic of adblocking, is there a better alternative on Android than Block This? I suppose AdAway but that's just about it.

There are free hosts out there that don't place any advertisements on your site. They might be more restrictive in what you can use, php, cgi, etc but it's still something good to start with. Domain names don't cost $70 a year anymore either. I also believe that Cloudflare is an amazing turd polisher as far as hosts go. Even if the server or even the client is in an unfavorable location it usually finds a nice path.
Leo Taylor
Sorry, not into moe culture.

>It's more like going to a free concert and not buying anything.
They're most likely sponsored by big name companies (pic related, visibly sponsored by AT&T), so it's essentially ad-supported.
Bentley Martinez
What exactly are the differences from Ublock and Ublock Origin? I get that Origin is a fork, but what are the actual differences?
