The C.H.I.P

I'm contemplating getting this.

I've never used Debian Linux before. Can this computer and its operating system do everything that a Windows can do? Like open source PDFs and word processing documents? Because I'm looking for a cheap little word processor that I can also read books on and play games on in private.

Yes there are alternatives, but I'm asking about this particular one at the moment.

Out of the box, can it use PDFS and transfer text documents better than standard Notepad?

it's garbage. no opengl driver so don't expect to play any games on it.

I see videos of people using it as a retro emulator though.

You'd need something X86 if you want everything a standard desktop can do

>games

buy it.
but trust me, the next thing you probably do is ask "what should I do with it?"
it's the thing that all Rasperry PI buyers did and will do.

it's shit

get a orange pi pc if you want to cheap out, but anything below that processing power is useless

why would you be doing this to yourself? Is it some kind of challenge, like, how much can we get in those 64k?

We got to the moon on far less processing power

way to understand computing

If want to do basic rocketry calculations and preform course corrections it will work just fine.

It will not, however, handle large video streams well.

>make a really small light car to go fast
>give it a massive fucking wing
>this will end well

I just hope that because it long not wide and it has all that aerodynamics stopping it nothing happens

guys.
guys.

I didn't ask if it could double as a cell phone or have all the power and functionality of a laptop.

I asked if it could store, read and display PDFs.

it's a little cheap tool I'm using to educate myself

>xe thinks displaying pdf's takes little CPU instructions

get this and shut up

Depends. Are your pdf graphic heavy, like /tg/ books? If yes, it'll probably be slow as fuck.

more like books on programming languages.

It'll be slow but yes, it works well enough for that purpose.

the specs are fucking terrible. a pi 3 is much better and is very well supported.

>$9 device is worse than $39 device

Thanks for the insight, user.

L O L.

Get a chink phone and just use it for Android. Pdfs, games, and a low price. Plus you don't have to worry about breaking it since it wasn't an 800 dollar phone

my point is that it's far too poorly spec'd to be at all usable for the purposes for which it is marketed.

>$9 computer
>shipping costs more than the item, on every single online store
>no physical store has that shit... errr... chip for $9

>ebay-profit-via-shiping-fee tier

no thx, i can get an raspi zero for $5 on a store close to me with no extra fees attached (when they have it in stock, that is)

Would only be a problem if that wing is creating lift. Which I doubt.
