So how does a website with so much traffic just shut down instead of trying other approaches to survive?

Bad management

I can't wait for the social media bubble to burst. I'll masturbate furiously when the day comes.

>I can't wait for people to stop wanting to post stupid shit on the internet

No way to monetize in the near future. Practically every existing social app is a loss year over year. So you continue to bleed money and hope that you make a profit before your service gets dumped for the newest thing, or you say fuck it and shut it down, and then sell the data you collected.

Normies not wanting to post as much stupid shit on the internet will be great

They're moving to instant messaging all over again

>tfw you never saved those really hot webms of girls posting their friends while they're in compromising situations

how will i fap now?

many huge sites are ran at a loss because there's no clear monetisation path that will keep the existing userbase happy while covering the cost of providing that service to the existing userbase, and if they axe the service to existing users other competitors will move in for the marketshare

youtube, reddit, Sup Forums, etc, are all ran at a loss, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever owned vine tried to sell it unsuccessfully

just look at sites like stickam that were large competitors in their field that just ended up closing shop

can facebook go bankrupt now too?

Twitter has never turned a profit in the 10 years they've been around. Investors thought that someone was going to buy them but everyone is saying no so they're now trying to become profitable which means firing people like crazy and axing money losing divisions.

Have fun Sup Forums this is going to happen to the entire tech sector soon. Every company is either reducing hiring or firing employees

Sup Forums wasn't run at a loss since around 2011, it wasn't until Hiro decided to jew as much as possible that he fucked the delicate balance moot achieved

it's still up, you have time to save them and share with me

>I can't wait for kids to stop wanting atari 2600 games
>I can't wait for people to stop buying houses
>I can't wait for those arabs to stop giving us oil

You're a moron I guess is what I'm saying

Archive Team will probably back it up, you should check their wiki to see if you can help

You didn't think that I was making the same point as you are in this post? Looks like you're the moron.

Facebook makes money by selling user data. So does Twitter.

Vine's going under since they refuse to put ads on it and the user data is worthless compared to Facebook/Twitter

Something Awful kept its head above water for years by charging upfront and monetizing shit posting.

GOD

so fucking sick of these retarded "vine-stars"

Twitter is really poorly managed.
Their expenses keep going up faster than their revenue.
It is like money is burning a hole in their pockets.

They should debut twitter paid accounts
No ads
No data mining
No bs suggestions

Pretty much. A lot of huge sites/companies live off investors and the market hype that they will eventually be worth something, when they won't.

I never thought I would see another dotcom bubble being popped again.
Life's weird.

I agree completely. The old strategy of "build startup and try to sell it for billions a few years later" is finally showing its true colors, ie. it doesn't work.

Don't worry goyim, w-we'll still sell your data if you really want us too!

>I can't wait for the social media bubble to burst.

So that's what it's called!

I really hope it bursts by the time I leave college. I also hope the next "bubble" is something actually useful.

lol
