Who else is really beginning to hate smartphones?

>the word smartphone is ironic because unlike the production-centered Blackberries or Palm Pilots of yore, iDevices are tailored to social media consumption and distraction
>everybody is absolutely obsessed with these devices to the detriment of meaningful in-person social interaction, as parents especially can attest
>skill-based handheld games with tactile controls have been replaced with microtransaction-based mobile games with simplified controls and dumbed down gameplay/graphics
>iOS is a walled garden where Apple exercises dictatorial control over what goes and and off their closed platform
>Android is a bastardization of Linux, a fragmented garbage dump of carrier bloatware, locked bootloaders, OEM fiefdoms and unpatched vulnerabilities
>the whole platform is big brother NSA's wet dream of metadata collection and tracking

When will the mobile meme die Sup Forums? The best gaming and computing experience is of course on desktop PC, ideally running Linux. I want off this botnet Sup Forums, could VR be the hero we deserve? What's the next big computing platform?

No one's forcing you to use a smarthphone.

But the fact other people use them has significant cultural effect.

No one is smart enough to override auto correct. SP are here to stay.

As a future high school teacher. I agree technology has gone too far. Not so far ago a mobile phone in class was a disrespect and now its almost mandatory (tablets).
A generation of illiterate lazy retards is coming, and winter too btw.

>go to restaurants
>the MAJORITY of couples and families are eating playing with phones and tablets, not talking to each other

>on the train
>see group of friends come in to the train
>they get seats, stop talking to each other and start playing with phones

>at a place of worship
>half the people respectfully listen to the sermon
>other half playing Pokeman

Humanity is in peril.

>hurr smartphones are making us dumb and antisocial why am I so superior to these sheeples XD
around 100 years ago, people were saying the exact same thing about novels.
Sub here. Smartphones aren't allowed to be used class unless students are trying to do research or something. Honest to god I've never seen tablets being mandatory in class.

>around 100 years ago, people were saying the exact same thing about novels.
Thanks for correcting the record, Randall.

wow this is so deep...... really got me thinkin,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The scary part is how I used to be called a "geek", a "nerd", like "wow user spends his nights on his computer hahahahaha".

My nights on a computer got me a dank job, and now all those retards spend more time in a day strapped to their phones than I used to spend in front of my computer in a week, and I was certainly more productive with a 10x keys keyboard on an actual OS with actual software than a shitty smartphone with a touchscreen as its sole means of interaction.

And now I'm the one calling them "geeks" and "nerds", telling them to stop being so fucking glued to their phones.

>walking through the park yesterday
>"wow so many people here today."
>get closer
> 90% are walking around playing pokemon go.

holy shit
If I had any advice for future generations: become a Ophthalmologist or a Chiropractor

you are guaranteed to make bank.

How else am I supposed to jerk off on the go?

Shut the fuck up with this bullshit, this what got us here in the first place.

You live in a society, EVERYTHING you do affect other people, whether you're willing to admit it or not.

Yes, those guys I saw kissing 20 years ago affected me, oh no it's not like they kissed ME, but now they're teaching fucking gender theory to my kids at school, and my daughter's teacher is telling me maybe I should consider HRT because wow it's 2016 already and your daughter likes to play with toy hammers.

Yes, those guys without a job sitting on their asses all day doing nothing affected me, oh sure we can provide for the few of them, to help them in the meantime until they get a job, and that works, when they're actually looking for a job, but we make welfare so comfy they're not getting a job anymore.

Yes, those couples refusing to have kids affected me, oh sure it's their choice, but the whole fucking society is based on the idea that kids provide for their parents, and as if this wasn't enough, the government gets half my paycheck to ensure everyone gets to retire, so if they don't, they're stealing my money without ever providing anything.

Oh yeah society can tolerate a couple outliers, BUT NOT WHEN THOSE OUTLIERS HAVE BECOME A MAJORITY.

And now just because I don't have a phone and refuse to be on social networks, because they're owned by companies that can do anything without ever being held accountable unlike decentralized systems maintained by accountable companies like phone or email, that twist reality based on what suits you instead of giving you the truth, that is free simply because you are the product, and that now contribute to the complete meltdown of society, well you're all alone walking in the street with no one looking at you, because existence is based on acknowledgement, and if no one sees you on their phones, you don't exist. Just because you oppose fucking electronics and internet you're cast aside society.

FUCK YOU AND YOUR GAY EARTH.

Rly mks u thnk.... Why is it called social media, when it should be called ANTISOCIAL media

Wow. People still play Pokemon Go?

Your problem is that you seem to still be invested in all this stuff.

You need to be confident and realize that all of these beliefs, probably 90% of the average persons working knowledge accessed on a day-to-day basis is a product of this societal and cultural microcosm that we live in right now.

Very little of it will last and all that matters is that you are happy so do what you have to do to achieve that. Get a dumbphone, move into the sticks, get a job managing in some small HVAC business and don't use the internet.

It still gets millions of daily players and just recently got a big halloween event

>everybody is absolutely obsessed with these devices to the detriment of meaningful in-person social interaction, as parents especially can attest

Funnily enough, I'm the one in the family who doesn't whip out his phone at all occasions. Parents do this much more and then complain because I don't talk to them. (Normie friend does this too) Put down your phone, maybe? If you're not looking at me, I won't talk to you.

My samcuck s6 edge got smashed so I ordered a Nokia e7 and I've never been happier with a phone. Lack of micro SD sucks though.

>but we make welfare so comfy they're not getting a job anymore.
Most first world economies have more unemployed people than job openings, since economic policy since about the late 70s to early 80s has been primarily focused on controlling inflation instead of controlling unemployment.

You could literally flog welfare recipients, but that'll only reduce the number by a few thousand as you create some public sector jobs for sadists.

Kek

>go to convention and have lunch with friends
>everyone has their smartphone out instead of socializing

I'd lie if I said I never did this, but it really made me open my eyes on how attached we are to our devices

I do not allow phones at the table. And that includes when we go out with the extended family or friends.

Only because people can only answer job openings instead of starting a business.

Most startups fail.

Part of the reason why is that there isn't demand for what most of them provide, and most people are limited in what they can provide (not everyone can be impressively innovative.)

>startups
Yeah if you're in IT they do.

If you just create a regular business, and produce tangible goods and edible products, it usually works pretty well.

Only if people want those products, and want them from you.

Most people are limited to the realm of starting a small business like a coffee shop, which as the authoritative film "Midnight Run" reminded us all, is a horrible investment because they have a nasty tendency to go bankrupt.

I hate
>me thin phone meme
>small batteries
>irreplaceable batteries
>almost no more physical qwerty

I don't hate smartphones. Smartphones are just a tool.

I hate people, especially people viewing tech as a social symbol, as somthing to put on a pedestral and idolizing them.
I have a smartphone.
It's useful to send messages for free.
To check emails.
To have a loop timer for exercize.
To remotely access my linux "server" on the go.
It can do a lot of stuff my pc does, but worse and in an uncomfortable way. It's a compromize for portability.

But unless I need it it's in my bag, for hours straight.
What I dread is people constantly attached to it just to scroll facebook or whatever's in right now, or to watch stupid yt videos.
When they are out with friends.

I spend 10h a day on a pc. It's unhealthy, I know. But normies now have an even unhealthier relation with technology and it's disgusting.

It makes me even feel healthier than normies, and that's scary.

Fuck people, not phones.

>stop liking what I don't

it turns women into whores, imo

no one i know believes me

>my son is on his tablet all day he is a computah pro

No

Yeah, I was born in the wrong generation.

You misspelled 'bots'

>beginning to hate smartphones
Kek, way to be almost a fucking decade too slow

Smartphones have destroyed the internet.

>1996
>Son put away the Gameboy
>2016
>Mom put away the cell phone

medium.com/swlh/how-technology-hijacks-peoples-minds-from-a-magician-and-google-s-design-ethicist-56d62ef5edf3
why smartphones are so popular and why we're all fucked

Buy a phone from a manufacturer thar actualy lets you unlook the bootloader and tells you how to compile it for your device, then you can treat your phone as a standard linux computer. If you change your os on pc why wouldnt you on your phone?

A little too solipsistic for me.

>have a handheld GPS that will work virtually anywhere on Earth
>can look up information any time I need it
>can look up a new recipe for dinner on my way home from work, add the ingredients to a grocery list, go to the store, pay with my phone, and preheat my oven before I get in the door
>can send text messages, emails, video clips, and make calls
>watch news shows, instructional videos, TV shows, etc.
>listen to music on my morning runs

Right, so just because you're 20 and everyone you know is a fucking idiot, doesn't mean we all are

>everything (except the paying with phone part) can be done on a phone running CM without gapps

Android is amazing, even if you don't use Google.

But you can't hug your mum with it

nice

Also I went to the timewellspent website and it's pretty interesting.
Like pic related.

And as I watched pic related it finally made me realize why I prefer winphone over android/iphone, and why at the same time it fails to get loved by people.
Its UI is designed to be oob more as a tool than a timesink.

It was that simple and never occurred to me.

>gaming

>the future is finally here
>everyone has personal PDAs like star trek
>everyone uses them for attention whoring, selfies and watching porn
It wasn't meant to be like this.

It won't die because it isn't a "meme", you are just a hipster and/or luddite and you're ignoring an entire industry. This isn't really about dumbphones, smartphones, or phones, it's about you pretending you're better than everyone else. You talk so much about your supposed phone choice but your average basement dweller doesn't really have a need for any type of device in the first place.

newsflash: you don't have to use social media on a smartphone. just uninstall the app. "oh no it came preinstalled that makes me a normie". kill yourself. By the way, there's some amish communities outside of big areas that use smartphones as long as it's to make money, and then don't use it when they go home. neo-luddites (you) are worse than luddites (amish) because the neos just make shit up as they go along.

The autistic hello world programming you're so fond of, because you think it separates you from the "normies"? you can make 70 - 120K if you have android dev experience. go look it up on indeed, except you fucking won't because you're a piece of shit. Generally speaking when there are those sorts of jobs available, it isn't really a meme anymore when you can buy a house.

They make a product for you, the problem we're having here is your dumbphone isn't keeping your special snowflake autism alive. Pic is a GSM phone watch, it has buttons on it which people have been training themselves to keep away from since the 80s in the form of calculator watches since it's what the previous autism generation psuedo-liked, and it also has a speaker built in. So you can start screaming at your watch (if you ever had any conversations) in public and everyone will know to stay away from you.

It's high tech vs low life, user.

Silver lining: By not having a smartphone you can bail on not being a tech-wizard, meaning you unfortunately can't be the tech-support for your family.

Bretty good bost

Sup Forums REALLY REALLY REALLY FUCKING struggles with the most basic android concepts, because they are hipsters who want to keep their dumbphones just like their grandmas they made fun of who were also unwilling to learn a PC over a typewriter.

>the phone comes with social media
It is THIS easy to uninstall it. see the pic? it has a menu. hit one button. that's it.

>hey bro are you on facebook
>"no"

gee that was fucking hard

>the detriment of meaningful in-person social interaction

Fresh pasta

that was really cute

>It is THIS easy to uninstall it. see the pic? it has a menu. hit one button. that's it.
Not OP, and none of the guys in the thread, either, but not really. Apps like facebook to tend to come built-in, as system apps. Yes, you can disable them, but they are still there taking precious space. The only way you can remove them is by rooting and deleting the .apk.

50%? Make that 80%. It's entertaining seeing how anons finally learn to talk in person, and people making the switch to digital communication.

But anyway, I agree. Look at any middle/high-schoolers in a group, and some of them WILL be using their phones in one form or another. Not to do anything productive, either - but using it as a means of distractions.
I..I mean I'm doing this too, but this is kids we're talking about. It's a bad habit.

Nice blog

Everybody except me is dumb!

>Complaining about gays in [CURRENT YEAR]

This.

We've always been in the era of stupid people- giving them devices to aid their dumb asses should be nothing but beneficial.
Unless you suddenly think that people have always been smart and then bam, phones appeared.

worst time to be alive

I think the real casualty of cordless technology in general is that people just can't sit and be any more.

your problem is that you apparently still want to belong
if you dislike society not being a part of it is a good thing
let the plebs pleb and do your own thing

Great read, thx

And that's causing depression and burn-outs. Your mind just can't take a breath and chill out, resulting in us being stressed all the time.

>hating inanimate objects
>not just plain ignoring the asshats using said objects
come on user, you can do better. It's just fucking noise.

>Everyone but me is stupid.

sure grandpa.

I remember reading an interesting article about how even just reading websites isn't relaxing, as your brain sparks every time you get to a hyperlink and pulls you out of what you're reading.

>gopher was right

Bah, I'm sure people said the same thing with computers and laptops.

There are still non-microtransaction games for phones, but they still cost money.

Why isn't she in the back of the train?

>I'm sure people said the same thing with computers and laptops.

And they were right.

Even without smartphones they'd ignore you and be stupid so I don't know what you're crying about user

ITT: Luddites

FYI, phones are going to become even more popular if they start using x86 core-m processors and desktop windows OSs on them which I get a feeling will happen soon.

>x86 core-m processors and desktop windows OSs
Why would any phone manufacturer want that?

i just use a nokia 215. texts, calls and messenger is all i use my phone for anything else i use a proper computer. maybe i'll buy another smartphone in the future but i can't see myself using it for much.

It would replace the need for laptops for the majority. Add in a precision stylus and you pretty much have a full blown pocket PC.

>you don't have to use social media on a smartphone
You keep ignoring the problem: Other people are going to do these things regardless, and that has a social impact.

It's all very well and good saying "just don't use it :^)" but take the example of the move to microtransactions in mobile gaming - eventually he's going to be up against the wall if he's refusing to play microtransaction based games, since they now dominate the market. He didn't play them, normalfags did, free market fucked it.

>People almost exclusively use phones to interact with people who aren't there
Most of this interaction is illusory.

>Post pictures nobody cares about on facebook/snapchat/whatever
>Someone else gets a notification and hits "like" out of obligation"
>They then post their own pictures to get likes themselves the same way imageboard users sometimes unironically hunt (you)s

Nothing hits me as more surreal than scrolling through normalfag social media and just thinking "y'know, why the hell did they think anyone cares about this stuff?", it's like the kind of thing you show someone when making small talk - but they somehow think people are genuinely interested when 99% of it is boring shit.

>load books onto my smartphone

>"hurr user why are you so glued to that device"
Because I don't want to lug around three novels everywhere, I read fast.

>why arent you paying attention to me instead waah waah
