If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following: 0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine. 1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything. 2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or Mac. 3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Why is Antergos a better distro than Manjaro?

Which distro is actually better, Antergos or Manjaro?
Alexander Wilson
Is Antergos even a real distro? To my knowlege it's basically just Arch with an installer and DE choices, but unlike ArchAnywhere, it' overwrites all "Arch Linux" with "Antergos". Manjaro is more doing it's own thing. So I'd say either Arch or Manjaro, if you really want to fall for the Arch/Arch based crap meme.

How do I compress an archive? i.e. from tar to tar.gz
$ tar cfz file.tar.gz file.tar makes a tar.gz containg a tar file. I just want a tar.gz file containing the contents of the tar file
Angel Martinez
>(maybe) at least i don't need an installer for my distro
Jordan Ward

Oliver Young

Is installing a distro in a VM never going to give you a truly accurate idea of how it will perform? I'm thinking of a getting an HDD caddy for my laptop for the sole purpose of testing out different distros, already have an old HDD lying around.
David Gonzalez
What network managers are you guys using? Currently i've wpa_supplicant with a dhcpcd hook running - which is fine for my home wifi. But i'm planning on taking my laptop to uni and i don't know if wpa_supplicant handles the eduroam well
Ethan Parker

What is the best distro for that VGAPassthrough thing? That one that lets you use 95-99% of bare machine performance on a virtual machine
Thomas Murphy
gee, tell me more about how smart you are for making things more complicated than they need to be
Aiden Butler
nope, im smart so im using debian instead of some obscure hipster distro i never had any issues instaling it though
Gavin Diaz
Honestly, any distro works so long as you have a guide for it. I would avoid Ubuntu/Debian. Ubuntu sets up AppArmor too strict for usb passthrough to work, and Debian requires patching the kernel IIRC. I suggest Fedora if you can find the guides for it. Arch is also good for this. Just remember: You will need multiple guides that may cover a different distro than yours, which can cause conflicts if you do not have a guide for your distro.
>CAPTCHA: HOME JAMES The captcha is telling me that maybe running GNU/Linux in a VM on a Windows Host may be suited for you.

Install gsimplecal and use it as a left click action on tint's clock.
Jace Sullivan
Says the idiot using a shitty abstraction layer (installer) who is experiencing problems exactly with that. You're so stupid and you don't even realize it.
Has anyone installed gentoo on a t30, I can't seem to get thewifi working, anyone else had the same problems
Brandon Perez
just successfully installed Gentoo on my t420s. are there any post install tips that you guys can give me? i set some USE flags but i want to fully utilize this system (because it's nice as hell)
