so far I've installed linux on my computer and hosted a custom rom on my phone. Beyond that I don't know where to go for taking control of the technology I own.
Is there really anywhere to start, books or articles to read? Is it important to learn a programming language? Is there a specific program languages I should learn first?

Honestly, the best way to do it is to just get familiar with your own software. So in your case, finding some documentation on your operating system/ROM.

Is Chrome really that bad of a botnet?

Is there a way to get the dialer in Android to play the phone tones when you dial? Alternatively is there an app that just simulates dialtones?
If I want to go a step further, how would I go about making a very simple apk that just shows a dialpad and will play the tones when I press the buttons? The easy way would be to have an audio sample of the tones for each button but I think it would be interesting to set it up like an actual dialer, where each button plays two tones depending on the x/y location on the dialpad, and instead of samples it generates the actual tones. Pretty simple, but what are some resources I could use to figure out how to do this? I know bits and pieces of different languages but aren't particularly fluent in any and always rely on references and figure it out as I go.

Well I switched out the HDD to an SSD and there is a new noise when the "hard drive activity light flashes.
Maybe I just never noticed it over the sound of the HDD, but its annoying as fuck
chink shit ssd's are like 40€ and give you more space than that, and a 500 gb hdd goes for under 50€ these days - probably a lot less if you shop around for deals and don't live in fuck hell

hidden folders are a thing, if you want to see them find folder settings and enable 'show hidden files and folders'. you really don't need to do that though and probably shouldn't touch them

What performance do you get in your games now?
I went from 40-50 fps max settings in BF4 to 70-80 fp at 1440p. From what I've seen on youtube it should handle BF1 very well.
