Intel's Skylake-EP Flagship Xeon E5-2699 V5 CPU to Harness 32 Cores, 64 Threads

>The chip that has just leaked is a trend-breaker when it comes to Intel's server parts: it carries on the V5 platforms' core count increase (with 24 and 28-core processors being already expected), stepping away from the 22-core high-end E5-2699V4A that Intel recently announced, by injecting ten extra full cores (and thus, 20 extra threads) to Intel's server chip line-up. If you find that number familiar, it's probably because AMD's Naples platform is also expected to house up to 32 processor cores per processor, alongside AMD's implementation of SMT (Simultaneous Multi Threading) for a total of 64 logical threads. Part of the Skylake-EP lineup which launches next year, the Xeon E5-2699 V5 (ES) is designed for Intel's LGA 3647 socket, and the leaked sample features a base clock of 2.10 GHz.

Competition at work.

Perfect for AWS.

Is this Zen?

think of Bulldozer but it finally beat Sandy Bridge after 6 fucking years

thats Zen

>(ES)
????

Anyway, this is getting weird. Are they killing socket 2011 or splitting it into a 'workstation/low end server' market?

What are these holes for, heatsing alignment?

Pressure relief when they solder the IHS on.

not 28 cores?

AYYMD IS FINISHED & BANKRUPT

My boss is probably going to be pissed, company just bought a bunch of Dual E5-2699V4 servers the other day. Although I have no clue when they are planning to release the V5.

If I had to guess, the same quarter as general availability of Kaby Lake processors. So late Q1?

Psh, nothin personnel kid

that socket makes my peepee hard

Let me guess 30k?

Gonna be sweet to pick up two of these in a few years.

TFW I paid $130 for 2x E5-2670. One 2670 is like 10% slower than a i7-3970X that costs $1000. And I have two 2670s.

128GB DDR3 ram for these are like $200.

Why aren't people buying old server hardware for their main rigs again?

it doesn't into gaymen

not all of us live in a third world country? someone of us love freedom and live in the land of the free ;o

Old hardware is overpriced in third world, sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new cpu straight from China like one of those Skylake 6400 ES.

>it doesn't into gaymen
It's not bad compared to the i5, which cost 4 times as much.

techspot.com/review/1155-affordable-dual-xeon-pc/page7.html

das a big cpu

Nice. I guess they really are worried about Naples.

Engineering Sample.

MOAR
COARS

There is a socket 2066 coming well. Suspect this will not get 4S+

well that's just plain wrong

It does play games, and it plays them well.

power inefficiency and lack of general knowledge is why you got yours so cheap. don't be an idiot and ruin the deals for everyone by blabbing, as it will simply increase the prices. also, server boards take forever to post

Good points.

I know what it is, I don't know why they put it there.
What a weird fragmentation. Would make more sense for the E7 to be on 3647 and the E5 to move to 2066.

>Why aren't people buying old server hardware for their main rigs again?
Because that's not a particularly good idea.

>ES
Engineering Sample

Good job reading the thread.

Y not, I see people still using 1366 stuff and getting decent performance

>touching a dirty cpu like that
WHAT U DOIN MY MAN UR GONNA GET THAT SILVERY SHIT ON DOOR KNOBS AND ALL OVER THE OFFICE AGAIN

What setup is this tested on?
I get consistently over 90fps in witcher 3 maxed out and my PC isn't that amazing

It's old and doesn't have better performance for consumer workloads than consumer gear.

This has already been made obsolete by xeon phi processors you retards. This is just a meme at best.

Yes buy new i7s gud goy

Xeon Phis are coprocessors with a bunch of arm cpus, afaik you cant really use them as your main cpu. Also shits like 10k usd isnt it?

The most recent version of the Phi uses Atom cores and the socketed version can be used as the main system processor.

if you do a shitpost god doesn't answer

Not only that these sons of bitches together output over 3,000 GFLOPS... of fucking FP64 compute performance.

I'm not sure how much more irrelevant intel can make ARM in the enterprise market.

Depends on if anyone has the balls to make a high core count ARM chip.

You'd need like 400 cores to match a xeon phi's 3+TFLOP FP64 performance and you'd probably end up with a TDP of like 1000 Watts.

ARM is a joke for enterprise. The only reason it's used on mobile is because how cheap it is else everyone would have core-m processors on their phones right now.

>THANK YOU, BASED INTEL!
Dude, shut the fuck up, you will never own or use one of these.

Stallman, get fuck out here!

This surprises people?

Are people on Sup Forums even interested in server platforms?

Anyway, I started working in that industry lately. And if you want, you can ask me anything.

I can't tell you much about information which is under NDA though. I want to keep my job after all.

No one really cares about you, dude.

Apparently some people care about server CPUs here.
Anyway, it was just an offer to learn more about intel or the server industry. But I guess no one here is interested.

>put 32 2.1GHz Pentium 4's on a chip and call it progress

Well done Intel. Fuck you.

Wait, you're an Intel employee? I thought you were some IT goon.

Is 2066 bringing more PCI-E lanes or something?

>Suspect this will not get 4S+
There will certainly be a E5-4600 edition of it which no one will buy.

>Are people on Sup Forums even interested in server platforms?
yes

>Anyway, I started working in that industry lately.
oh wow, you work in IT... no one gives a shit

he is a tard who works in a foxconn factory

>E5-4600
Unprecedented. No E5 has ever been scalable to more than 2 sockets.

you're a retard
ark.intel.com/products/series/93803/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-4600-v4-Product-Family#@All

The fuck? Intel is so retarded.

With 3rd party chipsets like SGI's NUMAlink Xeon E5-4600s scale to 256 sockets

sgi.com/products/servers/uv/uv_3000_30.html

That's a big socket.

>my PC isn't that amazing
U wot

There are literally only 2 cards that can consistently deliver 90+ fps in Witcher 3 at 1080p.

he is probably and amdrone who cant enable hairworks

Nah, hairworks kills performance in Nvidia cards too in Witcher 3.

The only two cards right now that can average 90fps+ in that game at 1080p with no hairworks are a 1080 and a Titan XP.

In defense of AMD if they beat Sandy Bridge they basically beat Intel.

I see, but that price tho

1: Its intel selling an enterprise class chip, they'll fleece you for everything you own.
2: its a fuckhuge die, so getting decent yields out of it is a pain in the balls. I would not be surprised if the first production batches of the latest version of Phi had yields worse than Fermi.

>This surprises people?
>Are people on Sup Forums even interested in server platforms?
>Anyway, I started working in that industry lately. And if you want, you can ask me anything.
>I can't tell you much about information which is under NDA though. I want to keep my job after all.
Why won't intel make a high TDP xeon for workstations? Everyone wants 20+ cores for 3d but there's still some single threaded tasks and 2ghz or so just isn't enough.

Just picked up picrelated and I'm already thinking about upgrading. Fuck me.

>18c CPU
nice, what do you use it for?

14c only.

Mostly normie things desu, but sometimes I have to use quite a few VMs at the same time for evaluation, and my 4770K wasn't able to handle that load. It also gives me the freedom of being able to run a lots of things at the same time and not having to worry about hitting a performance wall.

Ah. Yeah i have an E5-2690 myself and one of the best things about it is the ability to run a fuckton of shit and not notice slowdowns.

Its actually at the point where I'm ram-capacity bottlenecked, as 8GB is kinda not enough for this chip to run on.

thank you daddy may i have another

>run a fuckton of shit and not notice slowdowns

This is so true man. Thankfully I'm on 64GB RAM so I'm all good on that front as well, although once I did hit 61GB RAM use.

LGA2011(v3) with the X99 PCH will be succeeded by the LGA2066 socket with the X299 PCH. These will be used for enthusiast and workstation machines

LGA3647 is going to be a Xeon / Server only socket, with stuff like multiple sockets and so on.

it's true. sir malcom intel the third personally applies his own precum to assure the best thermal conductivity to the IHS

4Upins

well it's for a big chip, baby

well, I for the most part use this chip mainly as my daily driver with a side of distributed computing thrown in. Going up to 16GB would give me quite a bit of breathing room over what I've got right now. Problem is, my board only has 4 dimm slots, so I have to go get a 4x4GB kit to go there. And this piece of shit Biostar board is picky as hell.

>LGA2066
>Another socket change

Not to protect shintel or anything, but the 2011 has been with us for quite a long time. At least they keep the 1151 for Kaby Lake.

2011v3 was pretty much a new socket. It's standard 2generations thing with Intel for each socket. It's if coffelake keeps the old sockets is what's unknown, as it's just a forth revision of 14nm on the desktop.

so many needless sockets and chipset changes though its stupid.

AMD for all their faults at least stick with their sockets

enjoy never getting new features
which is pretty much the only reason to upgrade nowadays

i only upgrade when my old boards shit themselves.

i dont use any of the new board features

that said it looks like ill be giving zen a miss, shit IPC and 95watt tdp is nuts for a $400usd cpu

Yeah fucking 235 TDP on that shit, its like AMD secretly designed it

no it doesn't, ayymd poorfag

It's doubtable the Cxxx PCH won't be available for 2066. Don't talk out of your ass. Did you really think they were using X99 in real workstations?

>buys a 2690 instead of a 1650
Uhh, are you brain damaged?

>it's the 1650 guy again
everytime an E5 2600 pops up somewhere in some thread you are there to shitpost
>HURRR DUURRR WHY U DUN BUY THE PROCESSOR I LIKE

Fuck are you talking about, autist?

do you have problems understanding written text? are you illiterate or dumb?

lmao at your shitty 1650

>2 cores / 4 threads less
>less cache
>same turbo clock speed
>minor difference in base clock speed
>1650 launch price under $600
>2690 launch price over $2000

>28 of the cores however will be used for DRM, monitoring and advertising.

>All these cores could be yours for only the low low price of $19,999!

is it safe to buy 2nd processors?

aren't they like those mining GPU that ran 100% 24/7?

Are you retarded? You can't seriously think everyone who mentions a certain piece of hardware is the same person.
E5-1600 processors are unlocked. If you're running a single socket consumer (X99) board, then there is little reason to buy something else.

It is.

what if I'm running a server board with no overclocking capabilities?

Well is definitely not running a 'server' board.

Intel can't even beat sandybridge

>One 2670 is like 10% slower than a i7-3970X
that's kind of a misrepresentation--it has 2 more cores and a far lower IPC

If you're doing nothing but compiling your kernel and rendering all day long then sure but most people will be better off with one good desktop CPU

How many dies on are this? :O

>a far lower IPC
How is that possible when it's the same arch?

Intel shill rekt
Buy the brutal server chips instead of rehashed Sandy Bridge for the fifth time
