The latest snapchat on archive.org has the longer message about why it went down, etc. That was from October of this year, so it's not crazy to surmise that this new message came after WCD kicked the bucket.
Honestly don't know if it would be safer than this new NoS thing. (I'm not terribly familiar with the questions of security; I just collect and supply the actual music. More a record collector than someone with tech know-how.)
