Ad alternatives

In this rising age of ad blockers, how can content creators and website owners generate revenue online to support their websites?

by making content worth paying for

I work in the advertising industry. The easiest way to get around ad blockers is to serve up the ads server-side rather than using third-party advertising Network. The vast majority of ad blocking users are far too lazy to block them

And the no one will pay you because you can just make up the number of how many ads you showed.

Fuck 'em

kys linus

and what websites does this exist on?

just so i can be sure not to use them :^)

>this is what retards actually believe

We do still use analytics on our ads. There is a certain level of trust that goes into it, but there are good checks and balances such as weekly analytics reports. We do make a good chunk of change by operating in this fashion.

stop ads from constantly loading. thats pretty much my only problem.

/ayy lmao

there is a reason a paper like the guardian is a money drain. "content worth paying for" in text-based mediums NEVER make more money than the minimal required expenses, unless they use shady methods to get revenue.

unless you go full red socialism, ads are needed.

value for value model

Advertisements are now shoe horned into part of the sites content. You can't block it because it will also block the sites main content. They are also made like bait which attracts views as everyone falls for the bait eg apple vs pc. Advertisers are master trolls.

Just come to the realisation that it's not going to, and get the qualifications you need during education to get a well paid job when you are older

funny that no one argues this point against TV and radio. you could say they make up their ratings and dont take into account all the people who switch channel or go to the bathroom during commercials

>"""""""""content creators""""""""

> you could say they make up their ratings

Because they literally do, retard.

or pirate the shit

I never watched TV or radio in over a decade

but what about the 4chins?

I block ads on every site and enable them on sites that I consider worthwhile / interesting.

My problem with some sites is that they are flooding their pages with flash ads that chews on your your battery / CPU. But the real problem is with malware ridden ads, and the third party providers that does not give a shit about the end user security.
be sure to have your ad blocking up and running, if ads appear depite that, then you have a site that runs its ads server side.

Some pr0n sites use this technique.

>but what about the 4chins?
if you think that the content is worth it or the site itself is worth it, then leave the ads on.

This
Actual creators get paid
Repost/clickbait/bullshit sites doesn't deserve that money.

make better ads. ill watch a youtube ad every now and then if it interests me.

Get a job outside of hosting a shitty website.

Get a job to pay for your hobby. I'm not getting paid to shill^h^tpost on Taiwanese pastry coloring associations either.

Native advertising

This. Part of the reason I started using adblockers in the first place is how intrusive and irrelevant most ads have become.
If ad/analytics companies had sensible and trustworthy data gathering guidelines, actually provided ads for stuff I have a remote chance of wanting and that didn't disturb the sites that host them so much I wouldn't mind enabling them.

I refuse to pay to view a website, if you're doing website for money that's not the right reason for doing it, unless it's a service

and that's why the list of sites i block JS in is growing

disable javascript
live a better life

Like everyone does I guess? Fuck them.

Patreon
Swag
Kickstarters

This. All non-intrusive ways for fans to support the content they love.

Unfortunately, merchandising can lead to content tailored to merchandising. See: Japanese mecha animes. Eva's "organic" designs were actually a rebellion against that, lol.

>how can content creators and website owners generate revenue online to support their websites?
How about actually offering quality original content backed up with knowledge and unbiased attitude? I'd kill for an unbiased news source that doesn't feed me infotainment.

Also, content creators and website owners have to be passion oriented, not money making oriented.

sell a tangible product
sell some useful service

if your site can't make money like this, it doesn't deserve to exist

Brave (the browser) has a pretty neat micropayments system

>user sets a fixed monthly budget (using bitcoin)
>sites you visit get a share of the budget based on frequency/time spent
>can decide for yourself which of the sites you use are included on a case by case basis
