My first Thinkpad was from work, someone had brought it in for recycling. It was a T60, it was P R I S T I N E, but had the 1024x768 screen so it wasn't very useful. I later on bought a shitty T61 with a higher res screen, attempted to make a frankenpad but it failed.

People are ready to throw away perfectly good machines. Okay, a T42 isn't going to wow with its performance but if it's neat don't just junk it...

Who would want this plastic meme of a computer? Where is the beautiful aluminum uni-body shell? Where is the keyboard backlight? Where is the good trackpad? What the fuck is that meme dot in the center of the keyboard?

the t60 is technically still viable today
not horribly powerful but with some ram and an ssd it'd make an excellent shitposting machine with its core2duo

I have just a regular core duo, and it actually very capable for a lot of stuff if you don't push it too far.

But the SSD was the real kick up the butt that gave it new life.

I love the thing. I actually use it more than by desktop because it's such a joy.

I just sold one of those for $50. Told him how it ran like a new machine on Arch + Mate. He insisted on Win7. If you're in Colorado and he's mistreated it.... I'll be pissed.

I was able to comfortably shitpost from a T40 (Pentium M 1.5/768MB/Radeon 7500) using Windows 7 and Firefox. Not the fastest thing in the world but certainly not the slowest.
I doubt he'd buy a $50 laptop only to drop it off for recycling a few days later. He'd most likely come back to you if he wasn't satisfied, but why wouldn't he be?

2ghz Pentium M, 2gb of ram, 40gb HDD and the 32mb Ati 7500

If it has the 128mb GPU, more ram and a processor upgrade is like 20$ and thats a nice light gaming machine for shit like Empire Earth

What OS and browser you using? YT is only watchable at 144p over ethernet on my 1.5 with 768 and the same GPU. (Putting a 2GHz and 2GB of RAM on my Christmas list since it's not a priority.)

Oddly related, i have a chromebook CR-48, that celeron has half the cpu benchmark score of the 2ghz pentium M, that poor machine cant even do 480p

This is my hobby, acquire old thinkpads, repair and refurb them.

The G40 at one time had an Extreme Edition p4 in it, but it got really hot and when it was maxed out it would bluescreen from using more wattage than the 165w brick could handle
The r52 and t42 both have the 2ghz pentiums, 2gb of ram, but the r52 has the 128mb gpu, the x41 is also maxed out, r30 is maxed out, 380ED isnt but another 32mb of ram wouldnt really do much

The g41 was a bit nicer too, as it had a dedicated gpu option. I could technically do a dgpu via the pcmcia slots but the adapters are expensive

Yeah but it would be cool, i could hook it up to my old Nvidia Mv38 and get another gig of ram, that would leave the t42 in the dust
