I need a new laptop

>No bigger hardware issues

Not a requirement, but would be great

Avoid at all costs

>Cheap chinky plastic
>Unnecessary stuff that just add bulk, like CD drive, internal HDD, Ethernet port, Floppy drive
The only laptop I find so far that satisfies the requirements is a used Macbook Pro.

would be a good laptop if they removed DVD rom to make it more compact, replaced hdd with ssd, reduced size to 13-14", removed unnecessary stuff, like VGA port, add more battery. Why can't anyone make a good laptop? This is a reason why apple has no real competition

Was gonna say the Dell XPS but that's gonna cost you nearly double what you're trying to spend
literally just install a lighter linux distro and deal with the screen. there's no reason to buy a new laptop

I was in exactly the same situation OP. I settled for a 510s. Not perfect but it had:

>SSD (Samsung, 250gig)
>Nice keyboard
>I5 6225 chip
>8gig ram
>Decent enough build
Downside is just the shit battery.
I would have gotten the e460 if not for the bad screen with backlight bleed.
