What's the best router OS? Pic possibly related.
Also, what's a good home router supporting such OS?

OpenBSD

OpenWRT

A supported device

Lede - fork of openWrt. openWrt is indeed not actively maintained anymore.

Just find anything that supports openWrt. Don't believe in that ddwrt meme it is not easier to use compared to openWrt. I use a cheap Netgear 3800 now it fucking works great.

Cisco IOS

How do I install an os on my router?

pfsense

EdgeOS/Vyatta > OpenWRT > PfSence > anything else

Edgerouter X + UniFi AC Lite or WRT1200AC

WRT1200AC is a bit expensive. What do I get for this price?

I also vote ER/ERX with UniFi

that's my bread and butter recipe for a cheap/ fast network

>EdgeOS
How is this better than OpenWRT?

openwrt

It have official openwrt support, fast cpu (openvpn aes256 at 88mbps, shadowsocks salsa20 180mbps), and it can be a decent NAS with 700mbit speeds.
Because sometimes you need a router that just works out of the box, and not a toy to mess around with.

Is Tomato firmware any good?

VyOS.

Depends on your needs.

Do you need loads of features, stability and full customization while being less user friendly? OpenWRT.

Do you need features, loads of support, quite user friendly while being less versatile than OpenWRT? DD-WRT.

Do you need most useful features, very user friendly and very stable, but supported on quite few devices? Tomato Shibby.

Personally I'm running DD-WRT on my N66U. I ran Tomato Shibby previously and it was fine. Unfortunately I can't use OpenWRT as it has a broadcom chip and OpenWRT doesn't have good support for it. While it does work, the wireless is apparently useless. I need shit that works, so DD-WRT it is.

OK NSA

pfsense the best if you're making a real router/firewall. ddwrt if you've got a small router.

So?

It's not some faggot hobbyist project?

Also JunOS.

I have a dell r710 server running esxi with pfsense in a vm.
