The main appeal to the 7700k will be that it will overclock higher than the 6700k which will translate to a decent pref increase. Of course an upgrade from one intel gen to the next is silly but the 7700k is gonna OC to 4.9ghz no problem and at that clock with good ddr4 it would be a massive upgrade for people on sandy bridge.

HEVC Main 10 performance depends on bitrate. Pirated content has low bitrate unlike 4k 100Mbit test files, it isn't a problem even for old CPUs.

my i5-3210M plays the 3mbit hevc/10 from that site with no frame drops or jitter. thats with opengl-hq, display-resample and bicubic interpolation on in mpv.
