Textboard? Probably a protocol-hop to a telnet/ssh BBS, or other similar program.

Nah bro HTTP is useful for legacy machines and mobile devices, it also has less overhead (from not needing to de-crypt it) for weaker processors.
Also many popular parental control softwares can't filter HTTPS without some extra work like setting up SSL decryption re-direct proxy like with fiddler2 or such, and this requires installing special certificates and google chrome doesn't trust them easily, it knows something is up and its a mess.

Like, using Sup Forums as an example you'd go to the board Sup Forums.technology.whatever, and then inside that there'll be a discussion on that subject, with options to make your own 'whatever' psuedo-board.
