ITT: Features you genuinely miss from dumbphones

ITT: Features you genuinely miss from dumbphones

The alarm clock would ring even if the phone is off, as long as the battery still has some sliver of power left. It's disappointing that smartphones can't seem to manage this.

FM radio

Why would anyone want this? Useless feature, it'd only add bloat.

there are phones with this feature still

Durability
Buttons
Battery life

>turning your phone completely off is literally impossible
>it's not a bug, it's a feature ;^)
neo-Sup Forums, everybody

My Moto G has this

Nokia Bounce

...

I honestly can't think of anything I miss about these - sorry user, it's just old tech that belongs in the past! I don't have fond memories of this shit like I did with my first 486 desktop.

Same fambruh

R&B

fag

Nickel batteries

You should have heard the song. It was something like
>when we make love, the first person to take off is me

Nokia 3310 actually wouldn't ring alarm when off.
I had that with Siemens MT 50.

I miss the old Siemens mobiles. The S55 was god tier.

Simple games without microtransactions

Moto G does this.

keyboards

You could wave your phone in the air and create real life holograms.

My phone has this and fm radio too, not my fault if you shop like a retard

stereo

Keyboards. If my carrier had a decent feature phone with a landscape keyboard I'd drop my v10 right now.

I'd settle for a moto z mod keyboard but they don't seem to want to make one.

I'd hate that

Oh shit, I remember this.

Good times.

>Buttons
>I want physical buttons which for sure will be ded some day
retard

Who remembers this?

Got FM and DAB+ on my lg

My Z5 has this.

What I really want is a phone with AM radio.

fugg :DDD upvote

"my phone is shit, i have to charge it twice a week"

>every single smartphone released today has to be a fashion accessory no fun allowed shit
angery

>what is iphone

yeah and after that stroke of genius suddenly every phone has to be a rectangle with minimum buttons

>with minimum buttons
that's just because physical button are shit and safe to be ded after lots of usage

My grandma said this after her first 2 weeks with a Moto G3, her first smartphone. She loves the camera though and sending photos to people, so she got used to it.

>She couldnt believe people charge their phone daily

I miss the absence of Butt Dialing that you could have with flip phones.

With Pre-touchscreen iPods, you could do quite a bit by touch without taking your iPod out of your pocket, I miss that.

Having a proper joystick controller for iPhone games would be nice, but I've never seen any phone do that.

But on the whole, I think we are well ahead.

>LOL HAVE YOU SEEN THAT FUNNY MEME WHICH MY SON SEND ME? XDDDDDDDDDD

I remember playing that. One of my family let me play it on his phone at a restaurant when I was a kid.

I also remember one or two of my mom's old phones had a bunch of games on them. I accidentally deleted nearly all of them when trying to play my favorite one except for one about golf and another about bowling. I might be wrong and just golf was left, though.

Fuck me.

I don't think I have ever once in my life had a button die on me. On any device.

Not even keyboards.

You could actually still butt dial with a smartphone. I did it a few times with my old phone the Galaxy SII because I didn't give it a lock screen until I realized that made it ultra easy to butt dial. Turned on swipe to unlock to stop that issue.

I'm 35, my first smartphone was (still is) an iPhone 6+ and I can honestly say that dumbphones never held any appeal for me. My phone is mostly a podcast/audiobook player, camera, and occasional text-messaging device that also serves as grocery list (I actually take pictures of my mostly empty fridge and shelves to remind me what to buy) and reminds when to water my plants (among other things). A dumbphone simply doesn't fulfil any of my needs and is therefore useless to me - regardless of battery life and physical ruggedness.

I also butt dialed with my Razr flip phone. Nasty issue that didn't go away until the 5 key wore down.

because you're a specul snowflek :-)

I do miss the buttons since touch screens are disgusting and having a battery that lasts longer than 5 minutes. But overall. Eh.

Man, I miss my old Nokia. Could more or less do everything a smartphone could(well, but worse) but it had all the nice things from a dumbphone.

Felt a bit disappointing the first time I got a smartphone, not gonna lie.

Ringtone composer
Decent Vibrate function
WAP porn
Drop it, reassemble, and it's fine
Nice tactile buttons
Stylish swappable cases

Was flip phones the peak of mobile design? Especially the later Jap ones. They are gorgeous.

all androids have this

Not quite landscape, but the blackberry classic is pretty sweet.

No it doesn't. I have one too

I'm gonna buy this thing, only features I use is phone, alarm and FM radio
this thing has 3000 battery enough not to recharge it for a week

>upgrading from my old dumbphone
>turn it off, remove sim card
>put in in a box
>alarm fucking goes off one morning months later

>phone has little hole thing where i can loop a wrist strap through it
>drop it with strap around my wrist and its 100% fine
Which asperger decided we dont need this anymore?

You people disgust me. Anyone that puts their phone in their back pocket is a degenerate.

To be fair, I think butt-dialing is sort of synonymous with pocket-dialing these days.

So where do YOU put your phone? You purse? It's your purse, isn't it?

For me its the iphone 7c + with retina display, the best smartphone in existance.

In my left or right pocket, like any sensible person would.

What, your skinny jeans too tight to fit a fucking smartphone in your pocket?

this desu

I know that flash can be used like flashlight, but it isn't the same. I miss Nokia 1100 flashlight

> "this thing"

Could you be more specific? Some people don't already know everything, like you obviously do, and might even be interested in checking it out.

Is it unregistered? Can it take any SIMM? Can it take a 64 GB or 128 GB microSD for storage? Can it play FLACs?

I lived and died by my Nokia 5320 for most of a decade. Bought it used for 50 euros for it in the Netherlands in 2009. The quality audio playback on it was essential. Not just for music, but also audio books, dictation and language lessons/practice. It recorded really crisp audio. I used it for notes to myself and to record interviews when I was freelancing for news services. I'd play it back through speech recognition software and get transcriptions that usually exceeded ~98% accuracy.

I probably dropped 50 different SIMMs into it from ~30 different vendors all over Europe and North America, including Apple, and never a problem. They Just Werkt™.

The camera was OKay for basic pics, which came in handy but is hardly essential. Video was ass, and no fucks did I ever give about that anyway.

Was rated for "up to 8 GB miscroSD," but I had a 32 GB in it for the last several years, no problem.

Fell out of my pocket onto a street a couple weeks ago and was run over and kill before I could try to save it. I feel like I lost a friend, and will never find another phone so awesome for the rest of my life.

Fuck smart phone faggotry. I just need to talk to people for cheap, and SMS. The audio reproduction was just an amazing bonus with this phone. I spent less than $100 per year for over a decade for I Just Need To Talk To People. I have 20 different tech solutions for all the other tasks I need to do.

>
>What I really want is a phone with AM radio.
my nigga

measuring time between charges in number of days approaching a week or so, instead of hours.

Clamshell designs

Physical buttons for listen music like Nokia expressmusic had

Phones have battery saving mode where you can only use it to call and text and last a week or more in that mode you fucking retarded hipsterfaggot

I hate this "old tech was so muchhh better" meme, you can buy fucking dumbphones now too but you wont because dumbphones are fucking garbage compared to smartphones

no idea if they sell them in eu or us

they are market them here as land rover A series

ip68 protection, up to 3800mAh(even on android variants)
up to three SIMMs, not every model works with microSD though

I think actual company is Somia or something similar

Small size and light weight.

But the FM band will be kill in 2017, user.

That shit was crazy man

My phone has an fm radio and tv tuner.

Unfortunately they only work shen earphones are plugged in.

What I really want is an ir blaster. I ended up getting a HUIS-100C because my new smartphone couldn't control my TV anymore.

>disable alarms
>phone stays completely off
FUCKING AMAZING!

autist-Sup Forums, everybody

GTFO, nigger

I miss the fact I could drop my phone and it wouldn't break.

that alarm thing works fine on my android phone.

many phones have it

>tfw no ham radio module in smartphones
>not even $5 rtl2832 which has android drivers available
sad

Ayyyyyy triple j

The sound effects in this game were magnificient for me

neo-luddite doesn't know they come with it because he's that stuck in the past

massive success, nostalgia destroyed

I'm telling you this because you won't get a new phone, but phones have this thing called "emulators" and it lets you play every home console library including psx and n64

>I must use a phone like normies so I'll get a dumbphone instead, muh 'flake

>wanting accident mistake dialing

Oukitel K10000

Reason why this happens is because it's been a decade since anyone has last used one and they retroactively remove the bad memories and think it was some golden era, but they won't actually go use the dumbphone again because they know it was shit and don't want to admit it

Fucking nothing

As opposed to a touchscreen which will be dead even sooner. Also it's dead, learn to spell you goddamn nigger.

>physical buttons
>durability
>battery life measured in weeks
I'd never want to return to pre-smartphone era though. Being able to browse full-feature internet, listen to music and access all kinds of utility programs on one small device is awesome.

Will we ever get a proper slider T9 smartphone?

>terrible grammar in post
>suggests other anons "learn to spell"

...

batteryless earphones

Xiaomi phones will turn themselves on if there is an alarm set.

Those little thumb sticks to navigate

hello darkness my old friend

I didn't read any of your responses :)

business idea: smart phone with a dumbphone mode that includes a low power cpu and os capable of only calling, using an alarm, and playing javame games

The fact that I could drop the fucking thing without it getting utterly destroyed.
I also miss physical buttons.
I hate typing on a slab of glass.

Ultra Stamina Mode in Xperias

mhhhh

>karhu

I DON'T put it in my back pocket. I'm using "butt dialing" in the generic sense. I find the phone has randomly launched apps or started playing music in my pocket.

> (You)
>>wanting accident mistake dialing

Learn to read. I was saying that my old flip phone never had accidental button pushes, but new touch screen phones do.

>business idea: smart phone with a dumbphone mode that includes a low power cpu and os capable of only calling, using an alarm, and playing javame games

I've taken care of elderly family members and can tell you that there is a real need for phones that they (or young children) can actually use. Imagine a flip phone with just one or two buttons inside, that I can program to call me when they need help.

get something like this then, there is plenty ip-68 phones around

funny thing they all run on android and use snapdragons
just not your favorite consumer brand

>Batl S19

People get these things here living far enough from city with spotty reception.
