Windows 10 does the same damn thing and I dare say it's handled even worse there. Which is to say, you *can* install software from any source, but it's kind of a pain in the ass if need to do that often. On the other hand, it's a non-issue if you install new programs only once or twice every couple of months. And it's actually not that bad of a thing for normies because the app store is rather well protected and stupid people are better off getting their software from there instead of Russian warez sites...
