Why aren't modern computer scientist mathematicians like Turing?

Most "computer scientist" are glorified web developers.

Such a sad state of affairs this field has been reduced to.

uhhh
they succeeded to be like Turing at least in one way
they are homos

He did something they didn't, he actually dated a woman.

>tfw chemically castrated

>I watched the imitation game

Movie wasn't that accurate. I read Turing's paper well before anyone thought of having him as a movie character, so fuck off and go back to pleddit.

They are, you know nothing of computer science, stop with your shitty baitposting

>Why aren't modern computer scientist mathematicians like Turing?
>mathematicians
Just fucking major in Math, do a minor in CS and there you go
You can finally join CS theory and become successful like him
Read the fucking sticky of this board and learn Math

Thanks bro. I'll stick with /sci/.

Software engineering and veered its way into the web browser. Deal with it, faggot. C++ runs Facebook.

how much software engineering or coding skills is there in web dev? i never touched js

none

>I read Turing's paper well before anyone thought of having him as a movie character
wow, user, you've heard about Turing before the movie - your knowledge must be so broad to know such an unknown character

>Just fucking major in Math
If you're over 25 then don't bother

He was fairly unknown outside of mathematics in the 90s

why dont bother after 25?

it's a young people game, like olympic sport disciplines

no it isn't anyone can learn math at any age lmao. the young man's game is a meme started by whats his name that thought number theory would never have applications. he was wrong on both accounts

>in the 90s
not since everyone went to study CS in the 00s

/sci/ is full.

turing is more of a mathematician than computer scientist. even in cs (before the movie) he was obscure. no one even knows about his audio crypto related work in WWII or talks about almost continous functions research he did. they only know him for being bi/gay and his work in CS but they dont really even understand that

almost periodic functions*

>Implying I'm not already filling my body with cross-sex hormones

Facebook's web platform is PHP. Hiphop mean anything to you or do you just make shit up? That said, like any org that size they've got a mix of dozens of languages.

>anyone can learn math at any age lmao
Sure you can - vanity can be cultivated at any age.

>be homo
>Still get more women than Sup Forums
Why even live friends?

>hiphop

what did he mean by this?

hhvm.com/

Hiphop was the cross-compilation of PHP into native code. The facebook website was like a 1.5GB monolithic binary they'd distribute via bittorrent inside the datacenter. Once the crack wore off they decided instead to make a virtual machine with some higher-order instructions, the HHVM. That allowed them to have a final binary that is like 40MB. This was all big news 3 or 4 years ago.

why live indeed?

Fun fact, Turing came up with LU decomposition in 1948.

Why if he was a fruitcake lmfao

Sauce ? Very interested

I had this mathematician give us a lecture and he said 3-4 years ago some of the stuff he did in WWII was still classified

He did share with us some stuff he was working in in voice encryption

>why is a large group that banked off of a small group not like the small group?
baka desu sempai

because cryptology is more lucrative than cs

Because he could.

nigger what i don't even
turing didn't even know what computer science was

There's this thing called for appearance's sake.

...

lol what

most computer scientists are navel-gazing hasklel idiots publishing shit literally noone cares about

Because I'd rather make real money instead of being some dork "working" at a university.

>implying there isn't a ton of money in OR

Because all the important mathematics that are relevant to computers have already been done

Yeah like proving the P vs NP problem that was sonsolved 5 years ago by that one guy on 4 chan

Is that the only currently unsolved problem in CS you've heard about kid? Everyone knows P != NP, proving it is just a game to occupy phds who are too autistic to do anything useful.

Mani computer scientists are also like Turing, especially tha "glrified web developer type". They are also FAGS.

>Movie wasn't that accurate
It wasn't remotely accurate, irl Turing wasn't an autisimo and was one charming faggot.

Normies are so stupid they don't realize their film actually insults the struggle for gay rights by depicting Turing's story as such that he was persecuted for being weird, not for being gay, simply because it makes the movie more palatable -- how can we show this guy is smart? Make him rain-man! That sort of garbage is beyond tedious.

That aside plenty of geniuses are around today, their success is understated however and behind the scenes for very similar reasons like the aforementioned, it has to be simplified and approachable to the point of inaccuracy for the regular population to care about it.

No. I did pure math so there are plenty.
You are talking to a mathematician, yet you think you're holier than me because you assume I'm a monkey like you are.

>Most "computer scientist" are glorified web developers.

It wasn't that long time ago when if you wanted something printing, you had to go to a professional printing company, agree the content and design and pay loads of money for the privilege. Now everyone has a printer in their house, and they can do it themselves.

As a skill matures, people develop tools to short cut the laborious tasks that add unnecessary time and energy to the overall process.

So it is with computer programming. It's called progress.

There still are. They're the ones that go on to do PhDs. My discrete math prof was in the CS departmen, but said he doesn't ever actually code. He just works with theory. If he needs something coded, he gets a grad student to do it.

IQ and innovation have been plummeting since the mid-1800s. The Flynn effect is wrong.

The problem I see is that CS turds only want to She gayms and web sites.

Sadly in my country there is more math on the CS than anywhere else.
