I'm looking into installing Linux for my new computer, so I'm wondering what is the easiest one for beginners and is also very minimalist in design
Best Linux distro for beginners
Xubuntu
install gentoo
install gentoo
arch
Ubuntu Mate.
fedorA
Lubuntu on a small machine or Xubuntu if you want more default features.
Linux Mint is IMO the ultimate beginner distro, though Ubuntu isn't that far behind
Install Void
>easiest one for beginners and is also very minimalist in design
These two things are opposite. Just so you know.
Just get Ubuntu or Mint, then try something else when you learn more.
Don't believe these meme posters. These are not beginner distros at all.

This
1. Install Ubuntu Mate with Redmond
2. Decide to live on the edge and install Antergoes/Arch with Gnome... Break it.
3. Everyone swears by Gnome so you install Ubuntu Gnome, not feeling it.
4. Reinstall Ubuntu Mate and pickup a dark/grey theme.
5. Repeat?
>easiest
Wrong. Choose "hard", i.e. one that has to be installed, configured and administered through the command line. Learn that shit and the differences between the distros will be superficial. Heck, even the differences between Unixes will be almost unnoticeable.
It always seem a little ridiculous to me when people think using this or using that distro makes them somehow cooler. If you actually know what you are doing, which distro is running is one of the least of your concerns.
I've started using Linux 15 years ago, initially on Suse, then Slackware. So that's what I recommend to dig into Linux: Slackware.
About 10 years ago I then switched in relatively short successions to Crux, then Arch, Ubuntu and later to LinuxMint which I'm still using today, simply to not be bothered with having to manually install problematic 3rd party stuff.
Debian.
Terrible advice. You should learn the basics of Linux (commands like package managers, partitioning, etc.) with something easy like Ubuntu until you can dig deeper into Linux. Using Arch, Gentoo, Slackware or anything like that will just be a pain.
Manjaro
ubuntu is nice, but you may as well use gentoo since you have alot to learn and it will save you updating in the future.
This, go with some variation of Ubuntu. I like the normal Ubuntu and that is what even I go to when I set up something for work (because it's very little hassle with drivers and so on and very good support)
Manjaro is a good distro. But more hassle than a *buntu-variation
Lubuntu is a pain to install, he would need to install a very old version and then update from there. Lubuntu is a pain to install even for me even though Lubuntu is excellent.
Zorin is shit, I don't know why some people recommend Zorin. Might as well stay with windows.
Fedora or Ubuntu
ubuntu
1. Hit next until intsalled.
2. Get work done.
Arch Linux
1. type asdt1 | 4.1..xx q01- into terminal
2. type 91111 P{sd/.a.1... ///sa/1 into terminal
...
402. install gentoo
>Only using two partitions for arch
Enjoy having your home partition wiped after upstream fucks up and you need to reinstall.
openPEPE Tumbleweed
This is good advice OP. Ubuntu MATE, or Linux Mint Cinnamon or MATE. it doesn't get any more simple than that. Install Virtualbox and use a VM to fuck around with other installs for learning purposes.
Why the fuck would anyone subject themselves to this when all they have to do is put in the windows 10 install disk and click install?
...
>lubuntu is a pain to install
what? isnt it exactly the same than ubuntu? like, i installed it and it just worked out of the box
I don't know... Last time I installed it I could not even create a usb that worked from the iso. I had to use a old version to get it to work and then spend a lot of time just updating it. A complete pain in the ass.
I have no idea how anyone managed to install it otherwise, did they burn it to a cd or something?
That's just Arch in general, most of the distros recommended in this thread aren't anything like that.

Ubuntu and all forks (including Ubuntu MATE)
Debian
Mint
Mageia
Manjaro
Fedora
Korora
elementaryOS
openSUSE Leap
For the sake of minimalist design paired with riced icons and Anime titties
What is a distro "for beginners" anyway? You can do pretty much anything you want with any random distro you pick, if you know what you're doing.
i had it on a USB with YUMI and had zero (0) problems with it
exactly the same process than xubuntu or ubuntu mate
Solus
I like Lubuntu, but I am not touching it again considering the hassle it gave me the last time. I had almost less hassle when I installed Arch.
Wow. This was quite tarded.
Try anyone, you will eventualy end up with xubuntu.
Ubuntu-Mate for that welcome center
