when you -f that shit there is no option for 1080 with audio. its bullshit.

Combine the 1080 video stream with the audio stream: -f vid_id+audio_id

Youtube separates them...that isn't the fault of the software. Just Google it.

so id just enter it like youtub-dl -f 22+10 url?
Thanks for pointing that out. I thought Id have to down load them separate and then combine them in ffmpeg

>so id just enter it like youtub-dl -f 22+10 url?
Yes. Except on YT, 22 is for 720p video IIRC and it already comes with audio included.

For 1080, you would probably want something like what is shown here:
askubuntu.com/questions/486297/how-to-select-video-quality-from-youtube-dl

You'll notice the second answer uses 137+141. I don't use 1080 video, so you might want to check using the --list-formats switch (-F).

youtube-dl.exe

Thanks for the info, Ill be upgrading to that line from now on.
Yea 22 is the one usually labeled "best", which is 720.
Thanks for the info again

oh, do you know how to get subtitles in there too? I treid the flag for them and it just downloaded them in a separatte file

>oh, do you know how to get subtitles in there too?
Sorry. I know as much as you do.

github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#readme

Actually you probably know more than I do as I have never attempted to use any of the subtitle options listed in the readme. And I have never tried to embed subs, I always use a separate file and my media player detects it.

I just -f and -F. If the video needs trimming I do it in ffmpeg, its a pain in the ass if you want 30 seconds from a 2 hour video.
Thanks anyway

I use Youtube Center, but it's barely supported and now it only works 50% of the time.
The other half is split between opening the video file itself (I just have to rename it and it works), and not working at all (I use keepvid in those cases).

This.
