My laptop feels so much snappier on linux. On my i7 build, they both feel the same.

To some extent. In my experience, if you buy the very latest generation of hardware right when it comes out, you will have some trouble getting Linux working on it. Otherwise Linux has great hardware support.
on my high end machine with a titan X and an intel i7 4790k CPU is running LFS with KDE and Wayland, games run faster than Windows
