opengl-hq is now a profile
osc settings might be fine but i think the scaling might be a little different

mpc-hc is better

hi the media player shitposting thread is over here fuck off and die thanks

I broke something

i think i saw something like that on the issues tracker, had something to do with hardware decoding
dunno if a solution was found but you shouldn't use hardware decoding if you can help it

yep, you're right
it was set to auto, works fine if I comment it out

shame, was hoping to put the new card to work

What's the benefit of mpv over mpc-hc?

The biggest thing for me is how customizable it is. I can specify my own screenshot filename template, use lua scripts to extend functionality, etc. It might appear minimalistic because it doesn't have a full featured GUI but it's really powerful.
Most people can't seem to get over the lack of a GUI, though. I couldn't at first but I've found that a media player doesn't really need one.
Though I'll admit a graphical configuration program would probably help for some people.

This looks cool but I can't put it as my default media player in windows 10 + i can't change the volume, is there any way to do this?

What's the best config in Linux?

lachs0r's build are broken. try with other build

oh hey schinchiro build works
how come they're still using the old OSC though

because schinchiro is a fucking fag

What did they mean by this?

>removing previews, which frequently have ad-libbed banter between characters
fucking stop watching anime incorrectly you fags

Is there a way to automatically build mpv for Ubuntu? It's fine the first time but every update is a pain in my dick.

Otherwise I'll just use the repos.

Don't conflate novelty with quality.

it's trivial to skip, removing shit is full retard

It's not trivial to add another segment, and they require user interaction to skip.

and they should require user interaction
i don't want some brainded encoder to decide if i want previews or not

Not up to you.

it's up to me because i said to STOP WATCHING ANIME INCORRECTLY
FUCK YOU

>he watches spoilers right before the episode

GNU/Linux and programming noob here, is this the place to get help compiling from mpv-build? (does it even work?) I tried to follow the readme manual including meeting the dependencies beforehand, but it ends in an error all the same. I can go into detail as necessary. Or should I lurk moar?

How can I get it to downmix properly from 5.1 DTS to stereo pcm or even flac 5.1 to stereo?

The audio is so god damn quiet with surround tracks and I've tried everything in the cfg and nothing comes close to mpc-hc mixing, any ideas?

So it's for autists? Like arch?

Just had to meet even more dependencies and it finally built libass (I think) without giving me cryptic errors. Would delete the post but it is too old now.

The mpv window on Fedora 25 won't close. Alt + f4 doesn't close the window. Had to kill the process through the command line. Is there a different keyboard shortcut to close the window or is my install botched?

github.com/mpv-player/mpv/blob/master/etc/input.conf#L70
there's a few bindings

On Firefox I use Open With to start mpv on sites like youtube and on porn sites.
Is there something similar that works on current Chromium builds? The ones I find all require NPAPI plugins and those are deprecated

>if I update I lose my meme settings for the OSC

I don't get it. Isn't layout=box the old OSC? Or is it different somehow?

Yeah the opening the program times are getting really bad on windows.

You can just set the OSC settings on your .conf

Having trouble configuring screenshot-template.
%F sometimes gives me "error saving screenshot" when the filename containst bad characters. Is there a way to use a fallback?

Depending on the installer you use, some include a mpv-install.bat in the Installer directory which adds mpv as an option for Default Programs so you can set mpv as a default.

Volume up and down is in the manual.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Is this ppa ok for Ubuntu Xenial?

new mpv release on mpv.srsfckn.biz/ kids, merry christmas

Use your distro repos'

>not compiling from source
Why are you even here?

You're still compiling it from source retard.
My distro, at least, has it as an option in the repo, all the package manager work is done and i just call it to run it.

nice, hwdec works now

>he doesn't audit the source
You realize that's the same as running a pre-compiled binary?

>maybe support CUDA hwdec? I don’t have any system to test that with (no Windows on real hardware, too lazy to set up VGA passthrough) and there’s no good reason to use it over dxva2, but if you’re interested, try to use it and report back so I can update this note.

Sourceforge builds support this, one advantage of hwdec=cuda is you can decode HEVC Main 12 on Pascal, nvidia not added that to DXVA2 yet. SF also compiled with vapoursynth support

no idea, I use 'auto'
tried 'cuda' now and it works, I really can't tell the difference though

I use mpv because

1. it runs on linux
2. it has good command line integration
3. it's extremely customizable and tweakable
4. it does color management, interpolation etc. (without which I can't watch videos anymore)

Other people have their own reasons. Decide for yourself based on your own requirements.

>and they require user interaction to skip.
mpv can automatically skip previews, OPs, EDs etc.

>I really can't tell the difference though
Only difference would be the CPU usage, although sometimes hardware decoders have glitches, bugs, or degrade the picture quality.

>using a binary package manager
Why are you even here?

I guess I'll leave it on 'cuda' for now then, might as well give work to the card

try

audio-channels=stereo

I would really recommend leaving it off unless you absolutely need to take the load off your CPU.

Just got a new MacBook Pro (pls no bully). 13" with the Iris 550.

What options could you recommend me? It fine without anything but I'm scared I don't take advantage of hardware decoding and stress the CPU too much or something.

Should I add hwdec=auto or something?

The point of hw decoding is not to stress the CPU and reduce power usage, quicktime, safari etc all use it internally

Thanks.
So what's the disadvantage of not enabling it?

I just tried hwdec=auto and it looked and performed exeactly the same like without any option

>So what's the disadvantage of not enabling it?
The advantage* sorry. Why isn't it on by default in mpv?

q

By the nature of the beast, software decoding will always be best in quality.
Hardware decoding is more of a hack-job.

>thread for a single program
what's the fucking point

It can also cause decoding problems on some drivers, a cross-platform program has to deal with lots of shitty drivers across systems so it's not a good idea to enable it by default.

It's an autists wet dream with millions of options to watch anime, half of which will unusably break the video, but if you've found the right combination after 5 hours of shitposting in /mpv/ you can enjoy the non existant placebo improvements of your animu

k thanks.
I'll just enable it until I come across problems.

The only other option I'm considering right now is profile=opengl-hq. What does that do?

I looked at the manual, it only says "OpenGL video output driver. It supports extended scaling methods, dithering and color management.". That's some generic bullshit, what does it give me?

The latest nigger builds for mac from dijin crash like shit REEEEE

It enables high quality video rendering options so small videos display better when full screen (an anology would be like enabling antialiasing for games). I don't know how much of a difference that makes on macs and smaller screens, see it for yourself.

Did shinchiro stop being a fag and put bottom bar back in his windows builds yet?

Since when is bottombar good?

Since forever.

I will take that as a no, thanks.

Keep your shit taste to yourself. Shinchiro shouldn't be editing anything from the sources except to make it work on windoze.

the default one is obnoxiously large, so while you're changing the size of it you could just force it as well , then everyone's happy

He should, actually. surprise he doesn't go full out and changes the dumb volume up/down keybinds.

Fuck off shinchiro.

don't worry I am not him, but he made the right choices with his build, I still like lanchors better, no auto-update though and there he has no plan to do so.. so yeah.

No he doesn't. He's a fag and needs to leave sources alone because he has shit taste.

Open source as in freedom.

Great taste for OSC, bottombar as default was one of the dumbest shit they did on mpv, why don't they actually make mpv a bit more user friendly instead of a shitty wannabe youtube bar.

sIDF (shinchiro Internet Defense Force) detected.

>shitty wannabe quicktime controls
>better than shitty wannabe youtube controls
nah m8

"upscaling algorithms can invent information that doesn’t exist in the image" is my favorite meme

im running mpv version 0.9.2, how can I set interpolation stuff. I have vo=opengl-hq:interpolation in my mpv.conf but i dont really notice anything

>version 0.9.2
have you tried using a version that isn't from the stone age

I upgraded to 0.22.0 and now opengl-hq is a profile

A = op / ed
B = naruto_-_ep1
linked = a+b (separate modules)

1 A
Many B

Has anyone tested the multi thread capabilities for mpv, thread count for adlav goes up to 16?

This?

>have a fx 6300
>gtx 1060

give me the best setting to hurt both my gpu and cpu

I mainly watch 480p chinese cartoon and 240p eztv tv show rips. I need to upscale and enhance the quality

haasn.xyz/posts/2016-11-08-ffmpeg-hevc-decoding-benchmarks.html

Yes, but does is this worth the investment, if you are interested in building a new computer?

>haasn.xyz/posts/2016-11-08-ffmpeg-hevc-decoding-benchmarks.html
Thanks, thought it was for encoding.

so basically you need to apply the patch over ffmepg?

why doesn't this retarded player have a volume rocker on the osc?

way too user friendly, keybinds or die.

It's an issue with Wayland, I also use F25 but I use it with xorg/classic instead

I'm trying to get a good configuration on Windows 8.1. I have the stats script installed and when I bring it up, I get these frame timing stats that I don't understand.

Are these bad numbers? If so, how can I improve them?

Here's my current config:

profile=opengl-hq
hwdec=auto
opengl-backend=angle
framedrop=no

No red numbers, it's good!

I don't think there's any point in using more threads than cores. By default, it should use the same number of threads as cores.

On Mac should I use the binary from stolendata or use the homebrew version?

always compile yourself if you can

>use mpv on windows
>will never know if my video settings actually work
