so for how many years it would be stupid for an i7 6700k user to update at all?

how? the benchmarks i saw are dogshit
Honestly, 5+ years. I have a 2500k in my wife's machine. Installed in early 2012. Unless it just shits the bed I don't any reason to upgrade/replace.
ironically true
Depends
Are you just surfing the web, running Office, or gaming?
I'm still using a Macbook Air i5 1.8 from 2012. Works perfectly for shitposting, even while running Win7 on Fusion in the background.
how good is going from a q6600 to a i7 6700k?
considering updating now but will new sockets come up soon making it cheaper?
i make music on the computer, and i make animations/edit in vegas, and casually gaming with friends. I wanted to try the new doom and my computer cant deal with it.
No new socket until mid 2018 at the earliest.

fuark seems like a massive upgrade
i wonder if i would be able to load tons of VST and reaktor5 instances in cubase and still get no lag
Several years in and still happy as shit with my i7-3610QM
Generally until most applications no longer run smoothly because of poor optimization.
it would still be stupid for me to update from my goddamn 3570k. you got a while until something significantly better comes out and even longer until programs actually make use of it.
was it stupid of me to upgrade from my fx 8320 to an i7 6700k?
Isn't 8-core i 7-6900k better? Why pick the meme 4 core 6700?
I want to upgrade my MB more than my CPU. But I'll have to buy a new CPU. :/
because the 8 core was 600 dollars
I guess maybe ~3/5 years
Wouldn't update until 32 core desktop cpu's are teh norm,in the same price range as your current 6700k are on the market
probably never unless you fuck it somehow
source: have i7 4771
Same here, my friend.
i7 6700k
32gb ddr4
MSI 7850 Twin Frozr
SSD 500 GB Samsung Evo
Is this enough to run Oculus Rift smoothly?
>intel
Fix your damn grammar first
ZEN is a meme, do not wait for it.
The question is if i7 600k will go down in price.
No.
Also do you even have enough USB 3 ports?
Intel CPUs NEVER go down in price
its a hypothetical build, i have a q6660 and ddr2 computer but i will keep the gpu and psu (enermax 720w so good to go)
what would i need for smooth oculus experiense?
wtf
price and demand makes prices swing howcan they stall the same
10 years. There are still people who use the Q6700
Should've gone for the 5820 instead
