What's the point?

What's the point?

I think you can talk to it and ask questions and stuff.

Amazon listens to you constantly, so that they can get to know you better. Every time that you shop, the suggested items become more and more appropriate. You end up buying more often, because why the fuck not, you NEED it! Amazon profits.

And they keep on listening.

I got an Amazon Echo Dot for Christmas, and it's fucking amazeballs.

I already had a good foundation for everything, full hue lights throughout the house, nest thermostat, Amazon Prime account, etc. I live in about a 900 square foot space, and it works throughout the entire place, even inside the shower. Having it control the lights, or play different music is fucking great. I need to sync my Harmony Home with it so it can actually turn on and off my receiver and control the volume, and buy the 2.0 Hue Hub to change colors, but other than that I'm amazed I didn't already have one.

The only downside is yet another microphone for (((people))) to listen in on you.

>setting it up last night
>sitting back in chair
>Alexa, dim the house lights
>lights fade down
>Alexa, play some Vagner
>Tristan Und Isolde overture comes on

God I love technology.

To make a giant step in to the botnet

A redundant convenience in exchange for a voluntarily installed wire tap.

People who buy these are absolutely retarded.

You truly deserve to be gassed.

Please stop

>"I'm afraid I can't do that Dave"

One small step for man, one giant botnet for mankind.

>Fuck that guy for not living the life I do.

None.
Might as well get a Google Home if you're in the market desu.
At least (((Google))) has a search AI

>amazeballs

fucking christ

I think it's pretty neat, but then again I'm a lunitic typing this with gear vr virtual keyboard, so maybe I'm not a good source.

>Vagner

I know this is a shitpost but holyfucking shit kys yourself to peaces

Optimizing voice recognition for automation in the fourth industrial revolution.

Just like newvidya uses gaming as a cash cow to fund and optimize profitable large scale enterprise solutions.

>shit guys we need more (((big data)))
>what should we do?
>lets mic them up 24/7
>genius
t. amazon

then they came up with some shitty must have appliance for the living room and advertised it with six gorillion shekels

There's a HUGE market in baby boomers and wannabe IN the trends of today that just bandwagon each other

It's akin to some form of anxiety towards being left out and not evolving and becoming OLD, so they gotta catch up and obviously finding out you can take notes from a microphone (which was done with a dictaphone decades ago) is fantastic because reactions and standard comforts are marketed as just below the mainstream to feel like a tech person with the current generation.

Funny. If the Gubermint came to you and paid you to install a digital microphone in your living room that was backed up forever people would lose their shit.

But some PRISM-enabled corporation charges people to do the same and everyone's all like "Take my money!!"

most people are dumb, so you gotta use the carrot and bait it, there's a basket of fallacies and marketing methods and its not just that, its the failure to recognize, alot in the choice of words, wolf in sheep skin

>amazeballs

Fucken shills.

Vagner, that subtle implicit typo unconsciously referring to

Vag

Vagina

>Buying an Alexa gets you laid

This shill is good, elite level.

>itt paranoid sheep that hate convenience and are clearly terrorists
What the fuck guys

You're the convience you commoditized fuck enjoy being sold

>le nothing to hide meme

hide your balls this isn't the garden of Eden

but y doe

>You're the convience you commoditized fuck enjoy being sold
I admit I'm a consumerist. I enjoy new tech especially that makes life easier.
Enjoy extra effort for a worse experience.

Look Mr. Bezos is with the DnD tech commission ok which is chaired by former Google chairman Mr. Schmidt and its part of big data and voice recognition optimization

I'm not the type to go full blown conspiritard in fact I fully support the industrial revolution 4.0 meme, but you just need to be aware that things are not always as they seem. Ignorance mustn't be evangelized in this day and age so at the very least be aware that there is no free lunch and nothing is free in this world, all of this time, all the data is power and money and it's free because you're the product. Some people are perfectly fine with that but at least know what you're consuming, that's all.

Or let Alexa or any other reviewer, shill, tuber, reactified twitterized trendsetter THINK for you and just follow your life in its course. Im also a millenial and I dont obsess about this stuff, at the very least do yourself a favour in this world of information (where knowledge is power) and be aware. That's it.

PS Mr. Bezos you're awesome.

I'm 100% fully aware that even with the "mute" button my Dot is still always listening but I have nothing to hide so I just don't care.
Same with my iPhone and Cortana.
The price of convenience is surveillance and that's cool with me. Like you said there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Spybot

good contribution

>paying money to be spied on

you're paying for an internet connection right now friend...

>I have nothing to hide so I just don't care.

people always say this

how would you feel if the people around you knew what you jerked off to?

To record all your personal conversations and send it to NSA.

Make me remember of that chapter of black mirror. Always wondered how people can be extorsioned that way.

>I live in about a 900 square foot space, and it works throughout the entire place, even inside the shower.
So NSA can hear you even when you make those noises while trying to take a shit and the turd is hurting your asshole because you don't eat a proper diet?

I don't whack it to pictures/videos of kids so I'm good

to spy on you constantly for the advertising industry's benefit

>vagner

The echo dot looks cool but really I don't got any compatible device for it to control. So all I'd end up doing is talking to it asking for weather updates or something. Which if all I wanted was to know if it was gonna be raining or fucking cold outside I could just pull up that info on my desktop/tv no problem.

I imagine if I bought a raspberry PI I could program it to be more or less the same, at least automate whatever I want in my home
