Got 3 years of McAfee for $15, how bad is it actually?

Got 3 years of McAfee for $15, how bad is it actually?

it is malware

I used to develop McAfee Endpoint Encryption 5 years ago.
It is indeed useless bloatware for huge amount of money. Some huge companies use it, but for personal usage it's a huge waste of money.

Kaspersky or Bitdefender are better choices.

Well, at least it's not norton.

McAfee belongs to Intel. BitDefender became shit when they were bought by a company that probably fucking fired all the senior devs or something. Malewarebytes is becoming shitty. Adaware became bloated. I have a GData subscription that ends in 2017. GData is okay-ish but it's bloated and will rape your resources and make your pc unusable if its specs are average.

The best these days is Eset NOD32 I'd say. For now of course.

Malwarebytes is the ONLY serious choice these days.
if your even remotely intelligent Common Sense 2017 Pro is a good option.

Honestly asking for Anti-Virus advice is as "12 year old technophobe" as you can get, you faggot

why did you do this to yourself?

you could have bought a nice pack of beer. Instead you willingly installed bloatware you insufferable cuck.

i think i remember hearing leo laporte talking about this eset nod 32 shit years ago. i haven't run and av in ten years but is this shit worth my time?

Bought a year of Kaspersky for $5 last year. It ended just the other day and missed a 1 year/3 device deal for $15.

Worse than a virus
Just use Defender

ESET has consistently ranked high in detection rates. It's definitely one of the better AV softwares if you can afford it. Personally I use MSE which is free but has mediocre detection rates. I have the belief that if you need AV software it usually means it's already too late. A lot of modern malware isn't so much damaging to the computer itself but more subtle like it will compromise the security of the system so that it can be used to steal personal information or extort money from you. If you have that then AV software isn't going to protect your stuff. It will remove the software but the damage will be done.

McAfee is a software implementation of NSA backdoor to compliment the hardware backdoor already baked into CPU by Intel.

Coincidentally, Intel owns McAfee.

Why aren't you using zone alarm + ?

Just got back. No I didn't buy it myself, it was a "Christmas gift", and no I haven't installed it either. In fact, I haven't installed AV for a long time. So I have 3 years of McAfee sitting on my desk unused.

back when I worked at geeksquad as a CA, the first thing we did when we were setting up machines was to remove McAfee.

botnet

It's so bad that McAfee literally had to make a video showing you how to uninstall it.

uses 3x the resources to provide half the protection and upsell you a bunch of shit, while using a subscription model so they steal extra money from people who forget/don't know about it

>how bad is it actually?

Its BADASS

BitDefender still tests better than ESET over at AV comparatives, of course I only buy antivirus so I don't have to fix my parents' computers though. I also don't remember malware bytes not being shitty.

its terrible but cheaper than most solutions

the best iv seen in detection is kaspersky, below is hitman pro (for malware, cookies, spyware) and AVG is decent if you buy the full version.

also when kaspersky finds a virus he make a sound of a pig being slaughtered
