What is the best smartwatch from a maximum functionality/open standards standpoint?
>smartwatch
>functionality
none of them
just use your fucking phone dummy
you must buy this
but why
Asus zenwatch 3 or one of the upcoming androidwear 2.0 watches in the next two months.
They're for when you can't take out your phone, dummy.
enjoy your 1 inch touchscreen fagmo
original Pebble, or Pebble Time
Can run with an alternative FOSS app, Gadgetbridge. Not perfectly, but good enough for a lot of people when FitBit shuts down the official Pebble servers.
Not any of the Pebble 2 variants, because people didn't have enough time to tinker and crack etc before Pebble revealed they were kill.
...
They are barely functional, they are shit as time pieces, they look bad and you can get a good real watch for much less.
>They're for when you can't take out your phone, dummy.
Then get a proper watch.
>t. someone who has never had a smartwatch
>They are barely functional,
Androidpay, gps, phone finder, external apps, text messaging, facebook/twitter botnet messaging, camera controller, calculator, phone battery indicator, health tracker, pulse tracker, barometer, fitness indicator, standalone music player, photo viewer, calendar scheduling, alarms, weather, etc.
>they are shit as time pieces,
no they aren't.
>they look bad
Every single aspect on them is customizable.
>and you can get a good real watch for much less.
"""""real""""" watches are $400 and up, smartwatches can be bought for less.
>Every single aspect on them is customizable.
This is true, but you have to admit that most Android Wear devices look like royal ass, it's worse than early Android smartphones
Apple watches aren't exactly paragons of beauty but at least they're neutral enough physically that the watch face and band kind of take over
>no they aren't.
yes they are, there is no smartwatch with a inhouse movement. They all have some nonsense quartz they buy off the shelf from chinese wholesellers.
>Every single aspect on them is customizable.
Nonsense. How do you change the bezel for example?
>"""""real""""" watches are $400 and up, smartwatches can be bought for less.
No you can get real proper and good watches for way less than that.
All you need right here.
Apply Watch paired with the new AirPods
>inb4 hurr durr apple sux
Hate it all you like but at the moment they offer the best solution
"Just use your phone" always amuses me. There's a reason people switched from pocket watches to wristwatches a century ago, and now people want us to go back to them.
Anyway, I don't like typical smartwatches, but I really wish there was an affordable equivalent of something like this. I don't need to do everything from my wrist, but being able to read a single text or see who's calling without taking my phone out is quite useful.
Oh wait, that's actually the non-connected model. They make one that looks just like it but has bluetooth and can display messages etc. on the LCD.
LG Urbane is pree gud.
Just get a normal watch. There's no good usecase for a smartwatch.
>There's no good usecase for a smartwatch
kek nice meme friend
Just because you can fit a computer on a watch strap doesn't mean you should
It doesn't solve a problem
I have a Sony Smartwatch 3. I honestly don't even like it much, the "smart" functionality is irrelevant to me, the only things that it is good for are notifications and customisable watchfaces. Despite this, it's pretty smart in appearance and for the £75 I spent on it, compared to some "real" watches I've spent more on it's pretty good. You have to decide what you really want because no one can figure it out for you.
Nice counterpoint retard
Actually, I know of at least one solid usecase, because it used to apply to me. I used to be a mechanic, which meant my hands were often filthy and I frequently had to leave my phone across the room to keep it from getting damaged in my pocket while crawling around car interiors and stuff. I bought a Pebble on sale and it was brilliant, because it let me know who was calling or texting me and therefore whether it was worth stopping my work and cleaning up so I could reply.
you were trolling so I didn't think you deserved an actual counter
