with 32 cores, aftereffects uses 58 gigabytes of ram during a 1080p lossless render. 64gb ram lets me have almost a minute of lossless pre-cache. which is wonderful. and then there's the ability to load datasets that might be as much as 40gb into a RAM booted linux VM for using Inferno.

When I was working as an intern in the mid 2000s, this dick head suit from proctor and gamble or something came in demanding we use a real string quartet for what ever commercial they were doing. He played it back for the suit, who loved it all and proclaimed his genius for the idea, then fucked off.
My boss ended up charging for 16 hours of session string players (4 players x 2 hours), gave half to some friends, and gave them a credit on the bill.
