Also, removing stickers that have been on for a long time is a bitch. They leave residue on the case and the color of the case may not be uniform.

Cases make logical sense.
Stickers provide no protection other then the surface the stickers occupy. Don't forget the persistent sticker residue on your machine after you decide to remove it.

I've asked my normie friends before why they do not take the stickers off and they can't ansnwer me, they don't know why.

It pauses the system at boot so that you can select a boot option more easily. I installed libreboot on my x200 though, so it doesn't do that anymore.
