Tfw you lose a 100gb encrypted file because you forgot where the keyfile is and you can't mount it

>tfw you lose a 100gb encrypted file because you forgot where the keyfile is and you can't mount it
I just wanna die for being such a unorganized lazy piece of shit

>needing a keyfile

use your brain next time

ill decrypt it for 10 bitcoins

my friend will fix it, mail him tonight:

[email protected]

don't worry it will be ok bro

I regret it so much using that fucking file

sent ;)

>have bunch of files
>get new computer
>copy stuff over from old hard drive to new hard drive
>forget to copy some of it
>don't notice until a few months later when I wanted one of those files
>now they're gone

this was a year ago and it still bothers me that I was stupid enough to let that happen. Even though the shit that I lost was pretty pointless, just some old junk I'd accumulated over the years.

This is the exact reason why i chose my keyfiles from rare pepes. Not on everyones view and always backed up on some neet losers 12 drive raid array.

>tfw you buy an ssd for os and 1tb portable hdd for photos movies and music
>copy everything over including photos for nearly 2 years abroad including various shots of gf in lingerie & heels
>format old drive for later usability

>two weeks later portable hdd dies

J U S T

That's why I gave up on encryption. In my experience, all of my data loss has been due to my mistakes. Forgot password, had two drives mounted and formatted the wrong one, etc.

...thats actually ingenious. Use a file thats supported by a non centralized network of neckbeards that can be retrieved inconspicously. Plus, the rareness is proven to add 2 exponents to the entropy of the file.

Do you know the file name? Or at least a part?

>encrypting your loli

That's sad, user, i'm sorry

I thought I had an idea of what the filename is, looks like I was wrong. I think the extension was .cpp or .xlsx but I performed a search in my drive and none of the returned files worked.

A .cpp file as key file? Wut

What kind of encryption did you use?

I don't think it's too smart. these images aren't exact copies of one another, good luck finding one that's byte-for-byte the same as the one you used as a key.

Yeah, i know it's dumb as fuck. I used Whirpool 512

OP this should be enough to recover most of it:
tblop.com/

That's what you get for useless encryption

What in the name of fuck could have been that important? I mean seriously

>not using keyfiles
If you have a keyfile stored on a destructible medium, then you have a 100% guaranteed method of complete secrecy. If you get v& you just break your drive and then none of your shit ever gets discovered. You'd have to be a madlad to do anything else.

This pretty much.

user is going to go looking for his stego file and will only find ifunny watermarked shit

If you save its MD5 hash, so you can just look it up on Sup Forums's archives and find it.

Example:

>Forgot where the key file is
There are commands for that. Try using find

or if you're not retarded you can memorize a long secure password through memory tricks so you can access your encrypted drive

and if you're forced to, you can just say a false password to a false partition so they would be satisfied

>I thought I had an idea of what the filename is, looks like I was wrong. I think the extension was .cpp or .xlsx but I performed a search in my drive and none of the returned files worked.

with what did you search? use 'everything' for search

Already did, didn't work.

>not retarded
>memory tricks
>false password to a false partition
get a load of this guy

>memorize
Enjoy being susceptible to rubber hose cryptanalysis faggot

>muh two partitions
Yeah I'm sure the NSA doesn't know that truecrypt supports a secondary partition.

Enjoy getting waterboarded until you cough up those passwords retard. I'll be back in bed after an injection of truth syrum

I used *.cpp and *.xlsx. I'm 90% sure the file ended with one of these two extensions

not an argument

Does the keyfile still exist? If it does you should be able to easily find it. Try sorting the results by date created if you remember when you created the keyfile

>as opposed to getting rubber hose'd to give up the pass to your keyfile

wow nice security buddy

It's not supposed to be an argument. It's supposed to be me pointing out things in your post, so everyone can laugh at you

>as opposed to getting rubber hose'd to give up the pass to your keyfile
The keyfile that's on a broken micro SD.

I'd give it to them, hell I'd give it to you. Doesn't matter since the keyfile is gone, and with it, the password to my tomb. and LUKS doesn't support secondary partitions so I'm pretty much safe as far as I'm concerned

>encryptioncucks
Feels good having nothing to hide

so you've proved you're capable of reading

amazing

The point is that you destroy the drive where the keyfile is stored (or at least make them believe you did), so you can't possibly open the archive even if you wanted to.

This obviously could be a ver stupid choice, depending on who's trying to access it, since it might get you killed.

safe with losing your data?

>Enjoy being susceptible to rubber hose cryptanalysis faggot

Yeah, because they will TOTALLY believe you had a keyfile on that stick you broke on entering.

Fucking idiot.

Fuck, you got me. I'll go ahead and zero out all my drives now and stick my RAM sticks up my butt

I have 10 hdds of various sizes so far... Mostly to preserve the quality of the original data

>safe with losing your data?
I seriously doubt the NSA is going to give you back your kiddy porn stash whether they crack it or not. If you get v&, all your data is already lost to you. Might as well lose it for everyone.

Well they can beat me until the cows come home, but I'll have literally nothing to give them. Let them slap me with a destruction of evidence charge, or better yet, I'll just claim that they rough housed me as they took me into custody and that it broke in the curfuffle. Either way my shit is safe indefinately

>indefinately

You wer doing decently enough, but had to look like a retard on your last word.

whoa whoa whoa

hold the fuck up

why is it that implied that anybody concerned with encryption is automatically hoarding kiddy porn

People are not allowed to encrypt things in peace?

See this is the problem, it always comes back to pedos and the NSA, nothing in between, just black and white

christ, I'm done. There's no debating with literal pedos who practice a scorched earth policy when it comes to managing important encrypted files like keeping secure business transactions and files that might need to be recovered, but are still extremely critically important

I hope you fucks get arrested

>muh spelling
Wow you could have rebuted me, but since I made a spelling mistake you might as well skip the middle man and just strut around victoriously. I submit to you sir, who knows how to spell better than me, and is therefore correct in all things where I have made mistakes in.

>why is it that implied that anybody concerned with encryption is automatically hoarding kiddy porn
I thought it was an open secret on Sup Forums. If you're worried about feds, it's either that or terrorism, and the fat neckbeards on Sup Forums are far too lazy to be terrorists.

>christ, I'm done. There's no debating with literal pedos who practice a scorched earth policy when it comes to managing important encrypted files like keeping secure business transactions and files that might need to be recovered, but are still extremely critically important
I like how you are both angry that I called all cryptofags pedos (in jest, mind you), but then you cried foul and refuse to debate me because I am a pedo (as per your argument).

So you hate that I (jokingly) assume cryptofags are pedos, but you then assume that because I'm a cryptofag, I'm a pedo.

gee gee Sup Forums

This.
For example, I have no CP, but I encrypt my drives because a certain part of my business was made illegal by my corrupt and oppressive government, so I have to protect myself because the penalty for human trafficking is extremely high and the mitigated risk of getting caught is worth the pain of having encrypted systems.

>Wow you could have rebuted me, but since I made a spelling mistake you might as well skip the middle man and just strut around victoriously. I submit to you sir, who knows how to spell better than me, and is therefore correct in all things where I have made mistakes in.
At least you realized you're mistake and apologized.
Maybe next time you'll learn to argue and use proper logic.

>continues to strut around victoriously, having made no point other than 'you made a spelling mistake'
I mean, you don't HAVE to argue with me, but it certainly doesn't look good for your opinion.

>I am doing illegal shit and need to encrypt my shit to hide it
>but it's not CP and I'm offended user would joke about that.
>Also I'm trafficking humans, but find CP disgusting
You literally enable sex slavery with your work, but you're offended anyone would joke that you're hiding CP?

>I mean, you don't HAVE to argue with me, but it certainly doesn't look good for your opinion.
And yet you keep making no point and strutting victoriously while accusing me of doing (rightfully) the same.
Also "definately" is not a spelling mistake. It's the kind of mistake you make when you don't know how its spelled.

Tbh I find it a lot easier to encrypt some archives containing all of my passwords and then just remember a super complicated password for the main archive.

You should be keeping backups if your encyption is strong enough OP, I would suggest a couple of flashdrives sealed well and buried somewhere.

>You literally enable sex slavery with your work, but you're offended anyone would joke that you're hiding CP?
Who said anything about sex slavery?
That's only a small part of my work, as I'm mostly involved in labor for gulf countries and organ harvesting.
But keep thinking it's the same as the CP you have on your computer. I'm sure it's not because you feel like a piece of shit and feel the need to project your insecurities onto others, saying "b-but that's just as bad, right? right?"

Human trafficking is literally the same scale of criminality as child rape.
Get fucked, cunt.

You are breaking migration laws, enabling sex slavery, organ harvesting and probably even drug trafficking as well, amirite?

Don't even try to think you are above child rapists.

I hope you die soon you cunt ass nigga bitch.

Human trafficking might be as evil from the point of view of the pain I'm causing, but whatevs.
Child rape is way worse because it takes someone who's both evil AND a disgusting sicko to do.
Also children are just like 10% TOPS of the humans I'm trafficking (90% of them being adults, which are never truly innocent), so don't give me shit.

Joke's on you because I will, since you didn't specify what "soon" means exactly.
I might die in 1000 years and it would still be "soon" relative to cosmic time.
TAKE THAT, RETARD!

No responses.
Looks like I won the argument.
Checkmate pedos.

I gotta go now, my friend Joe from Uganda has invited me to shoot some guns with him, so I have a plane to catch.

Also, >You are breaking migration laws, enabling sex slavery, organ harvesting and probably even drug trafficking as well, amirite?
Yes, you're right (and you keep making spelling mistakes like a retard). HMU if you need something. I've got the dankest meth you can find in all the east coast and the rust belt, along with every other drug you can think of.
Currently enjoying some very powerful shrooms an Algerian friend got me from France called agaricus bisporus. I'll get you some if you give me a contact.

Then it defeats the purpose because you still have to save something if you want to be able to recover the key. It adds another layer of obscurity, sure, but it still defeats the purpose.
Maybe it would be better to use a specific, recognizable image from wikimedia commons.
