General Tips:
>Consider substituting an i5 6500 for an i3 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider substituting an i5 for an i7 if you are not a content creator
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build
>Consider a B150 mobo for any i3 build
>Always consider an SSD for your build, the difference between one and an HDD is night and day

I intend to overclock as much as I can
This would be used for light/medium gaming.
If you have any advice on how to make this cheaper than I'm all ears

>mfw throwing boxes around haphazardly at post office

Does anyone here

Have an H100i v2

And can tell me if it's loud

At full blast they're extremely loud
At normal speeds they're noticable noise, but not anything horrifying. replacing your radiator fans will help with noise a lot, the pump noise is also there but it's not distracting or anything

Shit. Get 8350 and different mobo, you will be much better off

Will they be loud with a 6700k @ 4.7 Ghz playing intensive games?

I have a h115i. It has a sata plug for power. If you don't use the sata it gets noisy, or so i've read. Check your power hookup.

Probably not, as 6700ks aren't hard to cool at all

So I wouldn't need 280mm to not have a fucky loud bullshit radiator?

About to get this 460X tempered glass meme case and it fit's the H100i pretty well, in the front looks to be a good spot

>mfw waiting for my ram so i can start the build already

>mfw waiting for the kabylake pentium to come out

The pump noise isn't insane is all I'm saying.
The fans might be loud for you or they might not be (personally I don't even mind having a desk fan running by my PC 24/7), but if they are bad you can always change them, and that will significantly lower your noise, doesn't matter what radiator you're using they could always have better fans

>buying an i3 ever
>using stock fans ever
>using water cooled ever
>buying Nvidia ever

Got this shit at a MIcrocenter on a roadtrip awhile ago. Help me fix it

pcpartpicker.com/list/TzN6KZ

Im a gamer, console gamer currently (xb1).
ill have a 1070 in before Nier Automata... if i can get it to boot

Cheapest upgrade path for someone using an i5 750, 8GB DDR3 and a 550ti? Ability to do some gaymen like Overwatch and maybe the new DOOM but something better for video editing (rendering 720p max) would be nice.

Fucked up my new install and had to format my drives, using Ubuntu but I'm big into games so I wanna go back to Windows, is there a defacto good Windows 10 crack/activator? I wanna make the switch to check it out.

1050ti is pretty alright ($159)
I don't know about the 1050 performance but it's $109
RX470's can be found at decent prices

Google "create Windows 10 installation media"
Do what Microsoft tells you to do
Install Win10 home
Don't activate it
E
Z
P
Z

I don't want to spend $30 on fans just to make my radiator acceptable in noise

If I can have the fans at 1050 RPM then they should be fine but it's hard to tell if they will be running at this speed in game

It looks like only the EK Vardar fans are decent stock

Also, Why dont you get fucked? Here you can see there is no fucking difference between stock and ultra premium noctu with Kraken

youtu.be/ZC-u4JE9eag?t=7m

Rate? my temps don't go about 50 degree Celsius while playing Doom at ultra 1080p. What would you improve?

Picking this up tomorrow. I have a ssd and a case/power supply already. Will this be a decent build for 1080p?

if I dont activate it doesnt it lock me up?

But we're not talking about an X61, were talking about my H100i, the radiator with unbearably loud fans (even louder than my desk fan) at full load
Sorry you want to buy an h100i and want to be assured that it's the greatest gift to mankind, but it's not
Ultimately id recommend a noctua 120mm air cooler, because not a single skylake chip on normal OCs warrants a watercooler and coming with no pump and good fans make them much quieter

No there's just a watermark in the corner (unnoticeably tiny for me at 1440p) and you lose the ability to change your taskbar color
That's it

No just you can change your wall paper and you have a water mark that tells you to activate windows. Just go to pirate bay and download an pre activated copy or use KMSpico to activate.

Yeah I guess the H100i isn't ideal then even for a 6700k

The money spent on those fans can easily just be put towards the Kraken so I would do that instead. I am considering the air cooler but I don't know if I can get more than store credit, also the Noctua may not overclock as well

More than enough for 1080p.

You can change you wallpaper, the same way you normally change it if you're not a fucking normie who actually goes into "personalization" settings
Right click image, set as desktop background

I can guarantee the NH D12 or D15 will be able to hold a massive overclock. Not sure how it performs compared to the X61 because I hear the X61 is good, but I'm sure the aircooler with noctuas is much quieter

...

...

o fuck i just realized

I can't do tower cooler because I constantly move my shit and that will surely warp my mobo

x61 it is

>1060
the fuck man

GPU could be better but otherwise looks pretty good

What did he mean by this? Do I need to sell the PC I build to myself?

Yes, sell that PC do not use it.

OR tell MS and request they cancel the license and buy a regular W10 home key.

Yes.

>tfw waiting for vega and vega waterblocks

how do you make money for pc???

The left is why I wish /pcbg/ was around a year ago. Ridiculous, overpriced, heavy, large case. Shitty power supply that arrived DOA (and I lost the warranty papers of course). Shitty outdated CPU (I'm fairly certain skylake was available). The games I played at the time heavily relied on strong single thread performance. Shitty motherboard that I had to replace after 6 months. Honestly the only good things I bought were the Storage and the cpu cooler. The graphics card was ok but not amazing.

This is why I post here and give advice. Every one build I can stop from being my first go makes me feel a lot better. When you're new to building, shopping for parts is the hardest part.

Shit I don't have enough money, I don't wanna get ripped off

How did I do? Last parts arriving this week.

>windows activation

this is a meme right?

you dont have to activate windows anymore the fucking small watermark only shows up on the far right monitor anyways

Should I be concerned with m.2 SSD thermal throttling when it's mounted on the back of a motherboard with no airflow and I'm using it as an OS drive?

That's more like it kek
If you're buying new ram for a Z170 board you might as well get faster ram, maybe more ram but that's up to you, 2400mhz is basically stock 2133mhz, if those are US dollars you can get 16Gb of 3000mhz ram for nearly $70

well you completely blew it on the motherboard. What the fuck is that? Are liquid nitrogen cooling? No? Then don't buy that. Jesus Christ get an evga z170 ftw or something for a third that price. The blower style GPU wasn't a smart choice either but it's not going to matter much. The rest is fine for your price tier.

I would've spent a bit more for a 1070 strix, even if you dont like the RGB it can be turned off and with a case as roomy as yours, the directcu cooler would be a bit nicer than a blower cooler

Not if its just an OS drive, just don't put it under max write load for half an hour like they are

he probably did that because workstation='mature'

I wish this meme would die, peak rice was 4 years ago

uhm..

>Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler and Corsair Carbide Series 88R MicroATX Mid Tower Case are not compatible.

The 2400mhz was the same price as the 2100mhz at the time. I already have it all installed now. Power supply was given as a birthday present. Going to try and craigslist off this case and then get some smaller mid-tower, maybe with a window. I sold the 8350 and ram to a friend. Sold the 960 on craigslist.

I just don't give a shit anymore. I have a "PRO GAYMEN" motherboard in my system purely because it has vertical SATA connections.

So it sounds like OEM license is something used by computer manufacturers, and I can just buy a regular windows for my use?

Digital Illustration/Gaymer Fag here. I asked what would be the best video card for under $300 but the other thread 404'd.

Does the FX-6300 and RX 470 make a good combo?

XFX RX 480 GTR or Sapphire Nitro

wait for zen my friend

Can you Flash the Motherboard Bios before putting the CPU and Ram in?

my Gigabyte Z170x UD5 is being a cunt with my Corsair vengeance lpx 3000mhz ram, with a kaby lake cpu. I cant get to the bios with them in. ....and everyfucking build guide builds it all then updates shit.

rx 470 is good if you find it at the right price. Don't get the premium models or you might as well get a 480.
The fx 6300 is a piece of shit by now though.

I agree.
It was a budget build around $600 when I first built it with a i5-6400, and a Gigabyte H110m-A motherboard.

I got these parts lately. How did I do/ what can I improve? I tried asking in another thread and didn't get much in the way of answers.

Why are you asking for improvements for a system already put together?

Change that Seashit hdd to a wd blue.

The Motherboard was actually mostly because I wanted something that didn't look retarded. I do some light gaming but I'm picky about how aesthetics. Same reasoning behind the GPU I chose.

Im looking for the best NVIDIA Card under $300. user scarred me off of ATI and AMD permanently.

what troubles do you have with AMD/ATI?

> user scarred me off of ATI and AMD permanently.
Are you incapable of independent thought? Have you never heard of benchmarks? Shit I knew how to look for benchmarks back when I was trying to buy crappy "gaming" laptops. There's nothing wrong with the Rx 4xx series except that the reference cards and maybe the g1 gaming from gigabyte run a little too hot for comfort. If you're paranoid about that, my MSI Rx 480 Gaming X runs about 65c in most of the stressing games I play. The XfX GTR model has a good cooler as well.
Currently for nvidia around $300 all you can buy is a used gtx 970 (can probably get for $200 if you can haggle) or a gtx 1060- 6gb.

>I'm going to pay $339 to look at a black slab with silver accents instead of paying $125 for any other color neutral z170 board

Is a i7-6700 worth the jump from i5-6500/6600 if I actually do editing and programming stuff?
Would a gtx 970 still be okay for gaming despite the 3.5GB issue, or are the 10XX's worth it?
My current computer is potato tier so a full rebuild is in order.

if you're gonna be doing lots of content creation and such you can't go wrong with an i7.

the 970 is still a fine card despite the whole scandal. if you're going for a 1080p/60fps build it should be more then fine.

If you HAVE a 6500 then no jumping up to i7 isn't worth it. Depends really how much you stress the CPU. Look up the program that you use that causes the most load and look up some benchmarks I suppose? Also Kaby Lake just came out, you might want a 7700 instead of a 6700k. This is all assuming you refuse to overclock (which is fine, IMO)
Do NOT buy a brand new gtx 970. Used? Yeah if it's like $200 or less. But the gtx 1060-6gb is $249msrp and whups it's butt. Less wattage too.

the barracuda is fine. Been running mine as a storage drive for 13 months no, no problems. Decently fast for spinning disk.
I'm going to further reiterate and say the evga z170 FTW board is all black with only a tiny red logo on one of the heatsinks. It's $179 on newegg right now.

yeah you could have gotten a Z170 SLI Plus, a Z170 FTW, a Z170-A or a Z170 UD3 for a third of that

I need 2 120mm airflow fans for my case and 1 120mm static pressure fan for my AIO Water-cooler to replace my old loud noisy fans.

I'm on a budget but I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for something more premium.

Any recommendations?

Fractal Design Venturis are a pretty good choice for both of those actually,

Noctuas. or Fractal Design Venturis.

Don't bother with airflow fans. They only work well in open-air conditions and they suck with restrictions like drive cages and fan grills.

and what both and myself said proves you did that because of the 'workstation=mature' meme

Why am i such a RETARD. Fuck. I'm not gonna even argue this one. I could care less about the gay little workstation badge on it. I just wanted something modest looking or clean looking at least. I'm thinking I should just return it and get the z170 SLI Plus instead. Fuck I'm dumb.

I didn't really know what all my options were and I jumped the gun thinking more $$ = better.

I legit have a Core 2 atm; any upgrade is going from that miraculously still functioning part to something completely different. Side note, is Win7 okay to run on the later intel chipsets? Isn't it deliberately lacking support for some skylake+ tech?

I'm running the SLI plus right now Even with my fancy looking glowy graphics card it looks at least somewhat modest. I like the steel reinforced pcie slots too. Running a 6600k at 4.1ghz at 1.25v with it at the moment.

Please reccie me an htpc build for my mother. I'm thinking a new Pentium with the new kaby lake igpu for 4k

Needs to be sff naturally. Bonus points if a bit classy and minimalist

Node 202's not a bad case choice, and this comes from a guy who hates the R5 for being bland

I preemptively went ahead and bought a support bracket for the gpu to prevent any sag. I actually had initially gotten the msi 1070 seahawk x but I'm going to have issues fitting it in the case along with the CPU Cooler so I'm returning it in favor of the ASUS one which looks just as nice imo and will last me quite a long time.

Even a 6500 will be a massive upgrade. 6700 you only get a bit of speed and hyper-threading. If your programs take full advantage of HT and/or if you like to run virtual desktops or virtual machines then maybe yeah the i7 isn't bad.
But check what the price of a 6700 and the price of a 7700 is near you before you buy. The 7700 runs at a higher clock speed without touching anything.

Out of curiosity, where did you buy from? IIRC Newegg has "replacement only" returns on most items.

Amazon for nearly everything. I have an Amazon rewards card which earns a suprising amount of cash back (only redeemable through Amazon but that's not really a drawback). I got the NZXT Kraken off Newegg and my processor and the mobo off superbiiz which ought to be here by tomorrow. If I do wind up going with another motherboard I'm going to have to see what they're return policy is like.

i3 3220 for $40 CAD, good deal for a poorfag build that wants to emulate PS2/GC games?

Just got my paychecks brahs.
I can't wait at all.

I'm going to swap out the PSU on the pc I'm shitposting on right now and make it into a work PC, then install my old 560 GTX in it.

After that, I'll buy the new 4c/4t processor from AMD and work my way from there, and build it in an old Dell studio sleeper case.

After thaat, I'll swap out the HDD on my folks horrid AiO HP Compubber.

2017 is gonna be a good year.

Also, how much do you think Intel will drop CPUs in price to match up against Ryzen?

I have an H100i and it's quiet as fuck, and my CPU never tops 60C at load.

What CPU and what clock

Had to bend the top of the cooler slightly

I got that same setup on an 8350 running at 5ghz. Highest I remember seeing it was 53-55 degrees at full load.

Should I get the Asus Z270I? Probably going to not have Linux support for a while, but that m.2 heatsink thing catches my eye.

How can I tell if a mobo has secureboot or not? I hear it makes installing older windows OS's/linux a pain

Look in the UEFI settings and there should be an option to turn it off.
