Its 2k17 and you faggots still aren't using emacs? Why would you do this to yourself?
>it can be an X window manager and desktop environment >literally run all your other shitty programs in it with its superior buffer management system >fully extensible with a complete dialect of lisp >tfw lisp is the one true language from which the gods wrought the universe >a cult classic since the mid 70s >is a complete superset of vim >is a complete superset of $YOUR_EDITOR >email and irc built in >file manager built in >http and json parsing library built in >web browser and html rendering library built in >image support >remote file editing with TRAMP which supports like a bazillion different protocols and Just Werks™ >works in the terminal: no compromises except for obvious shit like image and color support >can connect to Chrome for live javascript debugging and interaction >supports obscure hindu sandnigger script >tfw C-x 8 RET for every unicode symbol ever >O R G M O D E >built in psychotherapist >is literally fucking sentient
going through youtube.com/watch?v=dP1xVpMPn8M I must say that is very neat. The whole acme file system thing, window control files, etc.
Interfacing with stuff outside of emacs isnt difficult but not at all THAT easy.

Will Atom based text editors take over emacs and vim?
Also why theres no emacs base distro whe should do one theres enought autims in here for it
Ryan Reed
Because I want to use my editor to fucking edit text, If I wanted an IRC client I'd use an IRC client.
Justin Roberts
>Will Atom based text editors take over emacs and vim?
Vim has a lot of value, in that its a lightweight terminal application that can give a full editing experience over SSH connections. Atom can't replace that. It's head is in the right place though, and it seems to have a good ecosystem going for it.
I think atom is a great editor but I'm too far up Emacs' ass to ever switch.
>Also why theres no emacs base distro whe should do one theres enought autims in here for it Anyone who's crazy enough to unironically use Emacs as a DE would probably rather set it up himself.
Emacs is not a text editor though, read OP again and find where I called it a text editor :^)

This, all that other shit is for OCD autismos

I used emacs in the 1980s. That was a long time ago. You all need to move on.

Vim FTW
Also, zozzle

learning to use an editor or significantly customizing it are two things I prefer to live without.

I wish Atom wasn't slow as shit, because other than that it's really good.

>Its 2k17 and you faggots still aren't using emacs as time advances we tend to ditch outdated crap not adopt it in greater amounts
Sebastian Perry
I'd honestly use emacs - but it's so hard :(
Parker Moore
Its not that hard, you just gotta get used to it. And most people think that you have to learn hundreds of keystrokes, thats not true. M-x + "query" will do for most of the commands
Mason Perry
You should probably kill yourself then, because you already learned how to use several edtiors.
