General screenfetch/terminal thread
>inb4 is this the new desktop thread
is this the new desktop thread
Yes
Can this be done on Windows?
>Inb4 install [insert lincuck distro or macfagos]
Yes, on Windows 10. You need to install that Ubuntu bash thing.
But I thought you couldn't install packages (screenfetch) on the windows 10 version?
You can
Cygwin
Yes. OP had to camouflage the desktop thread as a screnfetch one.
as long as your desktop has screenfetch, just blame it on not knowing how to crop.
screenfetch is
a) literally a single bash script
b) not available through apt in Windows 10 for some reason, but packages in general are
c) inferior to neofetch
Sorry to post whole desktop but I had a lot of fetches
>inferior to neofetch
weren't you just arguing the opposite like a week ago
Not enough Archeys.
i even cropped for you
Probably, I'll argue whatever side of an argument I feel like and there's not much you can do about it.
>inb4 debian fag + house fire
Hey, just installed, how do you hide some of the output?
Tried with the -d option, but i keep getting a "the var font is not currently being displayed" error. When trying to:
"screenfetch -d '-Font'
Just shrink the window faggot
Which do you use? I don't like screenfetch-c because it shows both of my GPUs on one line with no space between them
kk
install gentoo
2>/dev/null
shrink it ? no i want to hide some of the output items
inxi is the best of these progs btw
>what is sed
>what is commenting out parts you don't like in the script
>what are commandline flags
Anybody who uses anything other than Arch linux or a Red Hat product is only larping...
Also, could you explain to me what the use is of running linux within windows?
Fedora is my choice for desktop OS
wanted to post both but too lazy to post separately or edit so here you go
People want to use windows, but Bash is still a useful tool to have.
Install Gentoo
What do you use archlinux for?
>People want to use windows
I dunno man. I gave up on windows completely around 3 years ago.
Best decision of my life.
screenfetch
what DE on the top one?
How
I usually don't.
Not even shitting you, it was just the easiest to get working on there because of an obscure non-free driver requirement for wifi. Tried the nonfree firmware Debian stretch iso, FreeBSD, and a bunch of other shit and eventually just got lazy and threw that on there since the driver was included.
None, literally just openbox.
Fuck me.
Question, how can I rice xfce?
hmmmm
...
Font? Background?
pls
It's probably fantasque sans mono
...
>you count

>implying i use windows
also theres nothing wrong with ubuntu and xfce. this shit is exactly same in every distro.. just the package manager is different in some
So how do I get my terminal to look like this

Holy shit are you me
So I was browsing reddit and somehow found this sub... I have no idea what is going on but the screenshots are beautiful.
Indeed I do.
GNU+LINUX BTFO
Basically, we're using heavily customized Unix-like operating systems (mostly anything Linux-based and macOS), in most cases with tiling window managers. Those can be navigated completely using just the keyboard, which can make working with your computer a lot more efficient (if you practice enough :P), and can be configured to show exactly what you want, exactly how you want it.
For Linux, /r/i3wm is a great point to start if you want to go with tiling. If you want a beautiful system that works a lot more like you're used to, GNOME3 commonly appears in screenshots here, too (and is not a tiling WM and is installed by default in many Linux distributions). I haven't used macOS so I can't give you any tips there (people make beautiful stuff with it though), and under Windows there isn't really anything comparable.
Have fun, you can spend a lot of time with this stuff! :D
off yourself
You monster. Terminal fetches were all we had.
Don't scare the guy with tilers. You can also get a DE (desktop environment) like XFCE, or try out openbox that is a stacker. Tilers arrange windows for you, but stackers make you move windows around like on windows (though it can be automated).
Anyway. It's a big world all on it's own. And you are welcome to join. We're a friendly bunch.
Everyone starts somewhere. Here we go:
eli5'd: You can make the computer display look and act a certain way. People show each other their pictures here and how they did it.
/r/unixporn is a subreddit of *nix operating systems that are customly configured. The list of operating systems includes unix, linux, bsd, and mac os as a list of examples.
These operating systems can be considered "enthusiast" due to the large community following. The end-user can choose how their display is configured -- Which is not to say soley what it looks like, but what is shown, how it is shown, and the behavior.**
Because of the many possible combinations of configurations, people post their finished product and the configuration files (dot files***).
** behavior - traditional computer interaction of many is that you will open a new graphical program in a window, you can drag it around, resize it, minimize it, or maximize it. There are window managers which control this automatically, the most different from the common experience of most people would be a tiling window manager that typically opens a program full-screen, then automatically resizes the program if you open another. Again, this is really a generalization.
*** dotfiles - configuration files are text-files (metaphorically just words and numbers you could write in notepad (if you were a windows user)) that are used to change appearances (and much more...) of something (something like a color of text in a terminal or the string that is shown on a bar). Anyways, these are called dot files because on *nix they are typically 'hidden' meaning prefixed with a period(.). like ".config" could be an example and also *nix doesn't rely on file extensions so the equivilent file would be config.cfg on windows.
TL;DR people configure their computer and post pictures of what it looks like and how they did it here.
BTW: this is my desktop
