Windows 10 LTSB

For anyone who is running windows 10 or was considering upgrading but is turned off by the bloat and bullshit, look into windows 10 LTSB (long term service branch).
No cortana, no windows store, no apps XD, and it's equivalent to windows 10 enterprise in terms of feature set, so you can have the group policy editor.
The only updates it gets are security patches, so you don't have bullshit downloading from windows update all the time fucking up your PC or forcing constant restarts.

LTSB doesn't have the cool WSL stuff, nor can you play games you purchased through the Windows Store. Had to downgrade to Pro after I bought a video game called Forza Horizon 3

Exactly. This release of Windows is inferior for gaming due to the reason I listed above. Therefore there is literally no reason to use Enterprise LTSB unless you're actually running a business because there's no reason to use Windows outside muh games

I specifically stated a VIRTUAL MACHINE in the context of running two OSes at once. There's no polish or seemlessness there, the best you can do is sync clipboards and filesystem links. Then there's the fact that you're not running any graphics natively so many applications are rendered in software or with emulated acceleration. Don't forget the 2x the power draw on your battery when you're not at your desk. Don't pretend virtualization is a spotless solution, it's not.

I just bought a new laptop and after 30 minutes of unchecking the 'Can we send every single thing you do' boxes, Windows 10 is pretty slick.

I don't know if it's worth getting a VPN though since I'm sure Windows 10 logs your true IP.

I was on Windows 10 LTSB 2015 for the past 4 months or so, with telemetry and windows defender disabled. So far it's working pretty good. I clean installed it on my friends laptop and he said there is less lag when gaming too

i upgraded to linux. funny, my xonar dx has far better support under linux than it did under windows with either the asus drivers or the uni drivers.

If they remove the majority of the bloat with this version, would it be worth it to jump from 7 to here? I stayed on 7 because I didn't care about the apps and such, but if they have just the core of the OS, then I'd be a little more interested in it. Should I continue avoiding Windows 10 to avoid the telemetry or are the complaints about it overblown?

I ahve LTSB 2015 in a VM with everything possible shut off, and I always see it after a cold boot.

Try blocking its network usage and post results.

That's what happens if you block its access to MS's servers. It will desperately try to connect to them.
