Telegram Desktop Reachest 1.0 and it looks like the best IM client for all platforms

>Telegram was available for desktops and laptops since 2013. Today it finally graduates to version 1.0 with a fabulous new design.

>Consistent material design, great animations, and support for custom themes make Telegram for Windows, Mac, and Linux the tool for messaging from your Mac or PC.

>If you're looking for an alternative design, Telegram Desktop also supports customized themes. Anyone can make a theme for Telegram Desktop. This theme, for example, changes green outgoing messages to blue:

telegram.org/blog/desktop-1-0

Are you using Telegram, Sup Forums?

Why doesn't Signal have a good desktop app like this?

Other urls found in this thread:

telegram.org/faq#secret-chats
github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop/issues/871
twitter.com/SFWRedditGifs

Botnet.

You're a botnet

And the lead dev still refuses to implement secret chats

>material design
Into the trash.

>not liking material design

fag

Really? Haven't installed it but FAQ says they work:

telegram.org/faq#secret-chats

>Why doesn't Signal have a good desktop app like this?
Soon

Only the phone client has them github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop/issues/871

Why does it look identical to Whatsapp Web?

I haven't used an IM client in years. Do people still chat with each other like that?

lol

I use whatsapp and telegram everyday. How do you speak to other people? Fax machines?

its not really relevant that the desktop doesn't have secret chats implemented, since secret chats doesn't use the cloud and so the device must be connected continuously, with in a computer could not be
its not a priority feature for me in the desktop, i prefer the release of the source code of the servers and the descentralization of the servers, i like the idea to start making telegram a standart of communication like the blog post says at the end, stopping the usage of emails, which are not needed anymore since the telegram urls exists

Isn't that what terrists use?

It's called privacy you popo

>material design

Yeah yeah whatever you say, auchri

>not using terrorgram

Looks like Skype.

>privacy
>messages stored in le cloud in plaintext
Telegram not even once

nice try ISIS!

kek'd

I stay the fuck away from privacy tech. I plan on working in the gov and don't wanna get on any of these terrist no-fly, no-job lists.

XMPP + OMEMO can do E2E with PFS, offline messages, and synchronization between devices.

I just text them

since when did colorful and pretty become non-gay?

>I haven't used an IM client in years.

get a friend

is it the kind of application written in javascript and html that runs inside a layout engine and consumes 200mb of ram?
if yes then kill yourself op

OK cool, how many texts you send a day?

modern '"""""""""""""apps"""""""""""""""

I'm sure it's based on messenger for desktop like discord is. It looks identical to fb messenger.

>I plan on working in the gov

lol

It's actually written in Qt/C++. Get learned friendo

that's nice I would consider using it

>colorful and pretty

Have you seen the new custom themes for Telegram desktop?

You can do whatever you want now.

I'll stick with wire the patricians choice.

So it is like LINE and Hangouts except no one uses it?

Telegram is used more than LINE.

Hangouts is pure botnet.

>Telegram is used more than LINE.

Line has twice as many users. 218 mil v 100 mil.

Trumpinator?

>Facebook is botnet
>Hangouts is botnet
>Telegram doesn't support VOIP
>Signal doesn't have an autonomous desktop client
>Whatsapp doesn't have an autonomous desktop client and it's a botnet

Why is there no good IM client, guys?

because normies will never use non-botnet shit

Wire. Or ring, if you're into distributed servers.

I only use it for the furry porn stickers.

fag

No VOIP
No Video Calls
No Voice Call
No Draw blank
Nope

An IM client without a user base is worthless.

Why would I use this if the 300 people that I have on Skype will remain on Skype?

Don't get me wrong, I despise Skype and wish everyone would migrate but as it stands right now there's no incentive and I would just have it installed because it looks pretty.

This is for people who aren't locked in like you and your gay friends.

GOGOGOGOGO

Q: Can I make calls or video calls via Telegram?
We may enable voice calls if we see significant demand in the future. The technology necessary for encrypted calls has indeed been created in our R&D dungeons.

I hope so, it's really stupid to have it as a browser extension

you better not be trollin

tfw when you realize they stole the design from whatsapp.

design? what design? there really isn't much there to speak of. it's just the default "modern" look a programmer would come up with.

Are you retarded or is this bait?

since fucking someone of the same sex became the only requirement for something to be considered gay

shit wrong person, here's your (You)

>tfw when you realize they stole the design from whatsapp.
looks nothing like whatsapp even with this whatsapp theme

and they stole the design from the android sms client.
And they stole the design from...
There is two designs you can use:
name1: message a.
name2: longer message as a reply.

message a.
longer message as a reply.

The last one is easier to get a quick overview, but only works for two people.
The other one works for any number of people talking together.
You could also introduce a bunch of colors and keep the second design, but there is not a lot of ways you can design an IM client.

Me too :happypanda:

I would really like to start using it but the message balloons straight from mobile devices make it shit for very long conversations.

Terrorists and furries.

>telegram

Just fucking kill yourself or get with the program and either use tox or GPG. And Signal if you want to chat with normie friends.

It's too late to find people that aren't "locked in" and also the reason it will fail.

I used it and it's great but..
>no video and audio calls

which no one ever implemented in a major software.

I wonder why.

Just updated, fucking awesome.
10/10

Too bad I already moved to Riot/Matrix

>Telegram
Sigh. Pic related. Pavel Durov isn't taking it seriously and is calling the allegations fake.

They're not. It's referring to the MITM hole he's never fixed since it was reported.

Fuck Telegram. They don't give a shit about security. Great marketing and UI, though.

>secret chats and multi-device synchronisation
That wouldn't have been any problem if Telegram had been properly designed like Signal/Axolotl, Olm, the new OMEMO, etc.

Unfortunately MTProto was apparently designed by pure math PhDs, instead of cryptographers. That doesn't go even halfway to explaining how fucked up it is.

>Why doesn't Signal have a good desktop app like this?
I'm not sure I'd call this a good desktop app, but you have a fair point here, and one I've raised with Moxie myself: using a Google Chrome extension (which is end-of-life) for a desktop messenger is incredibly silly, and obviously a desktop OS doesn't need to use GCM to wakelock reliably from Doze like Android does.

Wire is usable, even though it's JS/Electron. I think Signal might be trying something similar. It's still not exactly perfect but it's a step.

Is it open source?
Can I run a server on my own hardware?

If the answer to either of these questions is no then I'll just stick with IRC.

that looks like shit

Does Telegram's security still sucks ass? It did last time I checked.

>it looks like the best IM client for all platforms
>Consistent material design

Better luck next time.

Ty for notice. @themes in Desktop client if anyone else interested

M A T R I X
I
O
T

This is my main issue with the desktop client.

This is pretty nice.

It can't make calls or send sms, not gonna use it.

>Is it open source?
Yes
>Can I run a server on my own hardware?
Yes
>Can I continue chatting with my irc/jabber friends using this app
Yes
>Can I write my own bot/script for room management
Yes
>Can I...
Yes.
There's literally no excuse for you not to switch to matrix right now and forget about everything else.

Too much material design. It looks like they copy pasted straight from Google. They could at least try and be original

Kik and Facebook Messager are what Normies use these days. It's less clunky and has more features than texting, and data is cheaper than texts in most places.

>wire
>not signal

>:-)

>tfw telegram is also botnet

>give a fuck about smarthphones
We should use i2p bote
