post cool linux commands! :D

GNU commands*

Is it true that only commies and anarchists use linux?

No, some unintelligent people also use GNU/Linux.

Is there a FOSS Risk that supports online multiplayer?
I used to play Lux on OSX and I see they support Linux now, but I'd prefer not using closed source programs.

I have a problem that I just cant seem to solve, but I hope someone here might know what's up.

I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium that I wanted to fuck around with, so I installed a few Linux distros on it. The one that works best is Debian stable with LXDE, however it required a lot of fucking around in Xorg to get the resolution to work properly.

Now the only thing that I just cannot seem to fix is 3D hardware acceleration. This thing uses an ATI Rage 128 card, I have tried to put older MESA drivers, multiple boot commands, disabling KMS, enabeling it etc. but I just cant seem to get 3D running, so it relies on software rasterising. (Pic related, ignore username and machine name pls, its a meme).

Do any of you know what I could do to get 3D acceleration running? I want to try DOOM on it.

Thanks

I want to play BF1942, Desert Combat specifically. I've used playonlinux and wine for other games in the past and it always turns out to be a god damn cobbled together mess. Would it not be easier to just use a virtual machine, especially since the game is so old? If so, which virtual machine software?

How do I install text entry in xubuntu? I am following this gude and can't find it. moritzmolch.com/1453

WHY are there three (3) threads?
WHY is OP tripfagging?

>Dont like the AUR? Don't use it and makepkg manually, edgelord.
What do you think the AUR is, idiot? You're supposed to use makepkg on any of the PKGBUILDs from the AUR "manually" in the first palce. Are you one of those idiots who thinks that Yaourt invented the AUR and that it's made for it in the first place?

Vanilla Sources, gentoo-sources , openvz-rhel6 or Debian-sources?

free-sources

Oh my God, do you even know what i'm talking about?

OP is a stupid namefag/tripfag from reddit who uses these threads to promote his gay wire club because he's a dysfunctional lonely fuck

also, for those who don't know, OP is also known as 'Dr KDE Shill' and I'm honestly surprised he still uses that name after he ruined his rep when he begged to get dicked by Be4wesome

what's up with this thread:

OP is a faggot

that's the real thread, this one's fake

kek

ok thanks

give up OP/kde shill, no one's joining your faggot wire chat

what does it mean when my computer stops working and when i inspect /var/log/syslog i see only null characters after the time it stopped working (maybe about 200 of them?)
the system had an uptime of about 1 month so i'm not too concerned as there had likely been a decent amount memory corruption (using non-ecc memory)

all the good posters are over here

thanks m8, wasn't quite sure which thread to post in :O)

are you 100% sure OP is kdefag?

I used to be a Sup Forumsack, but during my Sup Forums phase I completely came out of touch with linux and programming in general. I came back to it after I realized that I was becoming borderline schizo and hadn't accomplished anything worthwhile with my political shitposting. Now I just don't care at all about politics, except if it interferes with my hobbies. Also I took the political compass test for fun a few days ago and I was one square from the left and three squares from the bottom, so ya I guess I am a commie and an anarchist now. Still, I don't like weed and don't care about any political stuff besides what overlaps with Sup Forums stuff.

>been using firefox because it is default on ubuntu mate

I know it isn't the most lightweight browser out there, but seriously, midori is bretty good for a gtk browser.

yes

see rbt.asia/g/thread/S58374689

well, OP maybe just copy pasted the pasta like we all do when creating new threads

in each thread everyone complains that op is a faggot for including that wire chatroom in the pasta and at the end of each thread he hurries to make a new thread before the old one reaches bump limit just so he could include it in the pasta again

For some retarded reason I can't block a site with hosts. I tried turning networking off and on again.

Tried rebooting, didn't work.

install Fedora

I'm trying to be self-disciplined but I need a crutch for a start.
Might try nofap because I spend +2h per day fapping when I don't have a job. Waste of time (and tissues).

inb4 LOL NOFAP IS BROSIENCE XDDD

Might do in the future. Currently I'm learning Arch in VM because I want to learn a bit about under the hood stuff.

>I spend +2h per day fapping when I don't have a job. Waste of time (and tissues).
just stay awake for 2 extra hours. boom! fixed your problem.
also use a cum rag. Pow! fixed global warming. don't wash it with your clothes

>just stay awake for 2 extra hours. boom! fixed your problem.
That means less sleep.

>also use a cum rag. Pow! fixed global warming. don't wash it with your clothes
That sounds disgusting tbqh senpai.

I previously installed the infinality font repo in Fedora 25 and installed several packages that I think overwrote the default system packages. I've removed the repo from /etc/yum.repos.d/ and now would like to remove all the packages and replace them with their original versions. I tried to remove some of them manually but it seems like several system components (like lightdm, etc) now depend on the packages installed from that repo and thus dnf wants to remove those programs too. How can I remove these packages and reinstall the original versions, or at least not have other packages depend on them (they are mostly just fonts).

>That means less sleep.
you have better nutts when you've been awake for 36hours and you boss expects you back in 10 hours

>That sounds disgusting tbqh senpai.
it is. especially when you spray oxy-clean on it and all the cum turns back into gel.

nm i figured it out

sudo dnf repository-packages infinality-ultimate-noarch remove-or-reinstall

sudo dnf repository-packages infinality-ultimate remove-or-reinstall

>arch is awesome they said
>it has the AUR they said
>install infianlity bundle for better fonts per installation wiki guide
>login one day
>no kde, no cinnamon, no nothing
>harfbuzz update breaks infianlity
>go to forums
>YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE USED THE AUR
>IF YOU WANT STABLE USE ONLY OFFICAL REPO

yfw you fell for the AUR meme

Arch Linux not even once.

>pacman -Suu
>pkg_add -Uu
>apt update && apt upgrade (is there really not a switch for both?)
>dnf upgrade
>xbps-install
>emerge -uDU --with-bdeps=y @world
>git pull / make (HARDCORE MODE)

Which one gives you the most e-penis?

Arch is for lazy neckbeards

>emerge -uDU --with-bdeps=y @world
i have never used this syntax when updating
maybe thats why my updates turn into shitstorms

I use zsh as my shell for my terminal emulator. Does it matter whether the bash scripts I run have sh, bash, or zsh as the interpreter?

Arch is easier than Ubisoft games which are too difficult for Arch users ;)

No, if the shebang points to #!/bin/bash the script will execute as /bin/bash. (Provided the bash package is installed on your system. You can keep it installed and still use zsh)

If you're writing scripts, you should try to use /bin/sh as much as possible, but you probably don't.

Yes.
But they specify which interpreter they need with the first line.
#!/bin/bash
Will always be run by bash, and so on.
So you don't have to worry about that.

Probably something to do with the people not very good at using GNU/Linux and not spending hours in their room posting on tumblr and Sup Forums about killing whitey lmao

Good calendar when?

just before you die.

I have a 3-4 year old Dell Xps laptop. I have Ubuntu installed on it. This damn thing overheats so easily and the fan is SO loud. Is there any sort of program I can write that helps throttle my laptop correctly so it doesn't overheat as much?

>
>GNU commands*

Hey I am supposed to use pep8 assembly for a class
>>computersystemsbook.com/4th-edition/pep8/
and I was having trouble getting the package to work on fedora. Whenever I try to run it i get
>>bash: ./Pep8: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

I have the correct qt and glibc libraries for my architecture and was wondering how hard it'd be to locate the error. The most relevant error search had to do with compatibility issues on freshly installed Centos servers having issues with arch comparability so that is the first place I looked.

What are the chances of Fedora shipping with MP3 and media player software in 26? I know the MP3 patent ran out last year but I can't find any information relating to it

Is there some reason I can't run two rsync jobs at the same time with cron?

I had them both in seperate bash scripts and get cron to run them every hour to copy different files to my home server, but for whatever reason, only the first one ever runs, I then decided to put them both in the same bash script and again, only the first one runs, changed the order of them, again only the first one runs.

Can rsync not do two jobs at the same time, do I have to set one job at 0 and the other at 5 or something?

I'm trying to mount an iso image of Pokémon Play It! that I torrented, but it's not going very well.

This is what I'm try to do:
$ LC_ALL=C sudo mount PokemonPlayIt\!.iso pokeplay
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.

dmesg | tail:
[32849.407393] FAT-fs (loop0): bogus number of FAT structure
[32849.407399] FAT-fs (loop0): Can't find a valid FAT filesystem
[33347.694858] ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.

According to the comments on the torrent site, the iso is fully functioning (and yes, I've verified that it got downloaded correctly).

Try "-o loop"-
Also, depending on your distribution, if you have udisks2 installed, use udiskctl. It's easier and doesn't require root.

Fedora will never ship with multimedia software and codecs, it is designed as a workstation, not a home desktop.

"-o loop" does nothing, unfortunatelyIt also wount mount using udisksctl.

Are you STILL mad that I wrecked your shitty BSD shilling thread?

As of 2016-11-10, Fedora is now able to include MP3 decoding functionality. MP3 encoding functionality is still not permissible, because it requires patented technologies and the patent holder has not provided licenses that are compatible with Fedora's requirements.

Who use mp3 in 2016?

Autists that actually save mp3 on their desktops

ffwebm -i outdatedformat.mp3 updatedformat.ogg

Or, go to youtube and start your playlist

>infinality
found your problem. why not just install a fuckload of really old software with third-party patches?

>Who use mp3 in 2016?
sup, time traveler?

Ho shit. Caught.

hell yeah! we gottem boys!

Is it a UDF fs or ISO9660?

org-mode

I just enabled multiprocess windows in Firefox on Elementary OS, and I want to apologize for shitting on you guys so bad. Firefox would stutter so bad it was absolutely pathetic without this enabled. It's like I'm on a brand new machine and install.

Arch users who have an up-to-date system and qbittorrent isntalled. Is it segfaulting?

I didn't do anything, it worked flawlessly today, but I turned my computer on and it's now segfaulting. I've never experienced something like this.

Never mind. It was a faulty torrent causing the crashes.

have a look here for debugging the segfault :

wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Step-by-step_debugging_guide

FUCK GUYS HELP ME.

I relaised that I hadn't started the cron daemon, but now I don't know why the second job ran and it definetly did run as I checked it by putting thigs in the directory, I think my operating system may be haunted.

Is there an exorcism package on the repos for this sort of thing?

No idea. file just returns "data".

Have you checked syslog for errors?

Can anyone tell me why my Intel Advanced-N 6205 on is stuck on 1.3 Mbit/s on Arch Linux and how I can fix it?

I need to learn the most about kernel debugging that I can, as fast as possible. I already know linux basics. Are there any books or resources that stand out? Talking about debugging with GDB, strace, and anything that might be related.

What are the absolutely most important kernel debugging utilities?

Just installed org-mode and been playing with it on my tiny-tiny website.

It's absolutely great, and with combination with tramp-mode it's absolutely gorgeous (albeit slow, but that might be the server's fault, i'm using ssh not scp which should be the fastest)

Implying Fedora can even play MKV or MP4, literally useless

Hello, /fglt/

I've been using FreeBSD since back in 2001, and despite shitposting a lot about how it's superior, that's not why I'm here.
I'm here because back then I tried Debian and what really drove me away from it was the lack of documentation - but since that's obviously changed since, I was thinking of throwing a Linux distribution in bhyve and trying it out.
Here's my problem though - what do I use if I want something built from scratch (ie. not based on LTS version of another Linux), has a rolling release model, and also doesn't have systemd (I have reasons for not wanting to get into it, but suffice it to say I know how sysvinit works and I can deal with that without having to learn something that I don't agree with the philosophy, technical aspects of or personalities behind).

tldr; Please /fglt/, recommend me a distro that is built from scratch, has rolling releases, and doesn't have systemd.

>2016
>RPM distro's having any multimedia capabilities at all

>recommend me a distro that is built from scratch, has rolling releases, and doesn't have systemd.
Linux From Scratch fits all of those.
Gentoo/funtoo fits the bill too.

with LFS you have more freedom since you can use tools from whatever distribution you want, since it's a framework not a distro.

gentoo/funtoo are distros

This probably belongs to the sqt, but I can't seem to connect to my samba shares on a Chinese tablet. It has an old version of Android, but it could do it just fine on Windows 8.1. So far, just about every single device on my house can connect to the shares except this instance. What gives? Do I have to go back to Windows and the eternal battery drain from updates just because I want to read non animated chinese cartoon porn comics on my bed? I even used Perfect Viewer's filebrowser, identifying my computer through the workgroup. I don't want to give up and use the ES botnet explorer.
>implying I'm free from the botnet on the first place owning a chink tablet

I did say I wanted a distro though - something that's either an image or an iso, which can be mounted by bhyve and installed onto a zfs dataset.

Currently eyeing GuixSD that mentioned.

Well you fucking faggot I named you TWO distros which feature everything you asked.
