All the new keyboards aimed at children come with led lights. Have kids lost the ability to type without looking at the keys?

light keys are cool

Of course not, but when the difference between RGB LED backlighting and just a normal keyboard is $30. Why the fuck not?

I'm already spending $100+ on a mech, going for mech + RGB is only a slight bit more and while it may not be used often, it's fun to mess around with.

>lights to encourage you to never learn where the keys are because you constantly look at them
or
>no lettering or indication of what the key is

I can't always find my home row in the dark. Once I find it i'm fine.

I know where the keys are anyway. My relaxed, error-free typing speed is 110 WPM, and peak is 140. I just enjoy the LEDs because they look cool when I'm taking a larger look at my desktop. Fight me.

Then why is the escape key red?

are you retarded? I touch type with RGB LED backlights, you don't need to look at the keys while typing to have RGB LED lighting.

>All the new keyboards aimed at children come with led lights
Stop buying gaymen keyboards.

There are notches on the keycaps though.

...

Rosewill doesn't do this.

This.

If I don't want it I can turn it off, and if you have RGB you have the option to make it whatever color you want to make it match your setup. Plus it's handy in the dark if you're sitting far enough from the monitor that it doesn't light the keyboard.

>Plus it's handy in the dark
Never understood this. Why would you sit at your computer in the dark? Are you too poor to buy a lamp?

Flashing RGB leds are retarded and unnecessary

only faint, warm white backlight is useful in darkness

with RGB LEDs though you can set any color of slightly warm white you want. You have 16.8M colors available.

This. I use a $17 monoprice backlit keyboard so I can see what I'm typing in the dark.

Because my screen is all I'm looking at when I'm using the computer, and the screen has its own backlight. Why would the rest of the room need to be lit up?

>not mechanical

not really relevant to the conversation, the OP keyboard is $130+

Eye strain.

I have 2 desk lamps and RGB LED accent lighting on my desk to provide enough ambient light at any hour of the day.

>Have kids lost the ability to type without looking at the keys?

It's very possible that within a few years (if not already) kids won't know how to type and will never learn. Touch screens are the future

I don't have autism so I don't care about such trivialities.

I dunno about kids but theres still a healthy amount of people who dont want bullshit, just clicky.

cherry greens are super interesting.

Well kinda pointless since there are very few if any true RGB non-mechanical keyboards out there.

All the fancy RGB LED lighting keyboards are mechanical, and only super cheap RGB keyboards from china are rubber dome, and even they tend to be chink mechanical.

why not just turn down the brightness on your monitors, if they're too bright to use in the dark without straining your eyes?

>giant-ass microphone
>"RGB accent lighting"
oh, right, I see now, you just want to revel in being a fag

Kek, my monitors are set between 5 and 20% of their maximum brightness depending what i'm doing.

Feel free to fuck up your eyes senpai, i was simply giving you an answer to your question.

This thread basically boils down to
>Stop liking what I don't like

If you don't like RGB lighting don't get it. But you have to be full on autistic to give a shit if others use it.

>It's very possible that within a few years (if not already) kids won't know how to type and will never learn.

Fuck thats sad. They'll never experience the joy of typing on a really nice mechanical keyboard.

Well it depends.
I have white lights on my wireless K800 and red lights wouldn't hurt since it's darker, but it's nice to have when you watch movies and just want to have something light up as you close in with your hands, but always lit keys are a big no no.

>tfw you can touch type but aren't pisspoor so you have euphoric RGB

This.

I can touch type. I have 3 mechanical boards and 1 of them happens to be RGB.

yup, same boat.

>buttmad he cant afford one
stay poor nigger

It's just people who like to broadcast their LGBT affiliations, don't be such a bigot

guilty of this, I can't type without looking at the keys every once in awhile. I can't be bothered to practice touch typing too

the LED are for when I am being emo and don't want to turn on the lights in my room during night time but still want to shit post in Sup Forums

My mech just has a nice flat white backlight that has like three levels of brightness and a slow pulse function for shits and giggles.

>He spends $100 on a keyboard without even being able to touch type properly
Why?

Because normal people don't sit in dark rooms?

>/mkg/
Yeah, buy useless "artisan" rainbow colored special snowflake key caps and braided cables, and most importantly, at most 60% size, better 40%, because less buttons means you're more skilled at computers.

i agree that colored lights on keyboards is a stupid fad, but the truth is the current crop of kids can out type the shit out of my generation when we were kids

There's a lot more homosexuals in the open today who like to flaunt their sexuality and like to expose their flaming faggotry to everyone else... so that's why all these RGB, or as I like to call them, RGBT, keyboards are becoming so popular.

if you see a kid with a led keyboard, don't get close unless you want to catch AIDS.

Because I like the click clack

Learn touchtyping online user, you'll type slow for a couple of weeks but then you'll start typing fast for the rest of your life.

I have an RGB keyboard and I've been typing without looking for years

Nah. I had like touch-typing software as a kid, but never really used it. I can still type without looking at the keyboard, but it's a weird, different form of touch typing. I'm probably not as fast as professionals that have typed for years - or even just normal people who HAVE bothered to learn touch typing, but it works for me, and I'm faster than most other people I know, so I'm content.

RGB keyboards are probably illegal in Russia for this reason.

good. this shit can turn a kid gay.

One thing I don't understand is how someone can spend a bunch of time on a text-based place like Sup Forums, particularly the technology board, and not know how to touch type. It just doesn't make sense to me.

This. Mini keyboards for a desktop system are *fucking* retarded.

>content with wasting time
Congratulations, you just triggered me.

It has nothing to do with not being able to type properly, it's just about making sales. Look at any YouTuber; if you don't have an RGB keyboard nobody will watch your fucking videos. And you can't run a YouTube channel if nobody watches your videos.

>tfw all the conservative looking keyboards are either top of the line or cheap as shit in both price and quality
Kill me

>out of curiosity, take a typing speed test
>do better than 96% of people on my first run, even after fucking up quite a bit
One more thing to add to the list of reasons why I'm better than everyone else

This too. Why can't I just have a non-RGB, no-bullshit mechanical keyboard for like $50? I don't want media, macro, dick suck or butt fuck keys. Just the regular layout and Cherry reds or browns. That's all.

General rule of thumb is that more the LEDs the keyboard has, the shittier it is.

LED = shitty gimmick for kids and manchildren.

just like flies are attracted to shit, manchuldren and extremely young are attracted to LED lights.

>giant-ass microphone

That's a pretty normal size microphone for someone who isn't a poorfag.

>being a youtuber or running a podcast
Congratulations, leech.

Often times, the RGB is more of an eye candy, desk accessory thing more than a typing aide.
It's like a lava lamp, you get it because it looks neat, not because it's a practical light source.
I often have mine with a graphic equalizer when chilling and listening to music, adds some extra ambience to the room.

>spend $200 on a keyboard
>another $600 for a camera to take pictures of it
>fuck up the focus and use shit quality
F

As a kid i sat in the dark so if I heard someone coming I could shut my monitor off and hide and not get caught lookin at porn

So, get this. I went to a small school in buttfuck hickville and they JUST started teaching children there typing. I was sitting in class (about 7 years ago now) typing at like 90wpm. I would finish my lessons three weeks ahead of schedule and just fuck around in class, until the teacher told me to stop. So, I took a look around class and found out that 90% of the students in that class were struggling to keep up with the lessons and barely scraping by with 30wpm at best. Some of them had to stare at the keyboard and hunt-peck for the keys halfway through the semester.

I often sit on the computer with the lights off because my >gf is asleep right next to me

> not him, but
Not everyone likes sitting in well-lit rooms. I don't like being in a lit room, if I have the option. I find it comforting, I dunno. I also like nights more than days.

I use mech keyboard with RGB lighting with empty print black switches

I m true meme manchlidren

even though I touch type, not having the light on sometimes fucks me up on certain keys. it's strange, maybe i'm subconsciously looking through peripheral vision?!

I got the k65 and just set it to white LEDs and two keys red windows and space bar.

honestly i don't even look at the keys when I play and I don't look when I type so I don't care for setting it to gay pride mode even though I'm a fgt.

the keyboard was a gift for me, I wouldn't of bought something like that, but it's a nice keyboard.

it's just a screencap of a yt video lmao

>hurr durr I'm a 1337 H4XX0R don't need to look at keys on my keyboard. Epic gaymur here

what is the name of that keyboard

Theodore

That kinda defies the purpose though.
>are you retarded? I watch TV with my eyes closed, you don't need open eyes to sit in front of a TV.

So hating on backlighted keyboards is the new autistic meme? Cool

And any one of them except maximum brightness will rape your eyes with shitty low-frequency PWM.

Yeah im sure you know everx keyboard combination and never look at the keyboard never ever

you complain about children but autistic manchildren like you who think using a fucking keyboard is some secret autism club elitits shit is mich worse, kill yourself faggot

It's pretty safe to say I'm comfortably sitting in the top 250 list of the world's fastest typists atm, but back in around 2010-2011 I was quite a bit faster. It's when I peaked. Was constantly practicing, racing, and attending tournaments whenever possible. All this paid off once I began to consistently maintain an official position in the top 15-20 fastest typists in English. I'm not sure if you guys have ever heard of Sean Wrona, (most impressive and quickest typist on the planet) Well.. back when I was taking competitive typing seriously, I was given a few opportunities to meet up with him and race at a couple different tournaments. (I was pretty unsuccessful at giving the guy a legitimate challenge for the most part, he's a freaking machine. All in all, I outperformed him a handful of times which led to a couple of wins, overall I'm just happy that I was able to keep up as much as I did. You're probably wondering why the hell I'm telling you all this... well, I wanted to point out one thing I noticed about Sean, and every other world class typist I've met: None of them gave much importance to their keyboards. They just don't affect performance enough in any meaningful way to give a shit. It's a simple fucking tool. There are very little variances in quality from model to model when talking about mechanicals. Just find one you fucking like and enjoy it. There is no need in behaving like an elitist asshat and judging other anons for having different personal preferences/tastes.

Not sure if copy pasta
but too similiar to navi seals one

What if you got your keys mixed up?

>Why can't I just have a non-RGB, no-bullshit mechanical keyboard for like $50?
Cherry MX Board 3.0 is about $60
/mkg/ would never approve of it because it doesn't cater to their special snowflake nature

i heard bad things about the usb connection, seems to fail pretty quick, any information on that?

Can't comment on the connection because I still have version 1.0 with a fixed cable
The board has lasted for a few years now, and I'm not gentle, smoking tobacco and weed at my computer daily
Have not cleaned it once, other than vacuuming it off twice a year.
Still works

>RGBT
top fucking kek

I read that using an angled USB cable and fixating the cable to the keyboard might help, but idk don't have it either, just read reviews

rekt

You can tell if a mechanical keyboard is shit or not.
If the keyboard manufacturer lists "RGB backlight" as a feature, it's most likely a garbage product that needed a gimmick to sell.

good keyboards are never backlit

No

>tfw there's no one that makes 75% keyboards with the floating keycap style
>tfw there's no one that uses cherry mx in 75%
>tfw its even rarer to get them in mx whites

I'm deeply considering shelling out 525USD (leaf by the way so its even higher) on a gonswork keyboard. Thoughts?

>$500 for a keyboard that still does USB polling

except the SS 6gv2 is the worst piece of garbage i ever used

I stil buy keyboards with keycaps on them despite the fact i've been touch typing for a decade, whats your point?

Sure I COULD get blank keycaps, but why should I? Same with RGB LEDs, I could get the normal mech keyboard for $120, or spend $150 and get it with RGB LEDs.

At that stage of the game the "savings" aren't exactly massive, and at the end of the day if I dont want to use the RGB LEDs, they turn off.

Whereas if I got a keyboard without RGB LEDs there is no way to add that later on, you'd just have to buy a whole new keyboard.

My bad meant to say clears not whites. Why the fuck does cherry gotta be so retarded with the branding.

>imply my x99 mobo has ps/2

USB 3.0 doesn't use polling and keyboards with USB 3 interfaces exist (albeit not many yet)

that's a low-end keyboard with the rgb backlight stripped off as a make-pretend high-end board

>keyboards with USB 3
I was in the market for keyboards recently and literally have not seen this, kinda over kill. Also I wish I could at least get a KBT Race II. I don't want to spend 525USD.

>kinda over kill
It's actually more efficient
I'm just saying if I paid $500 for a keyboard, it should better have the best possible controller, i.e. USB 3

you mean 3.2 or 3.1 not 3.

Keyboards with USB 3:

Cherry MX Board 6.0
Corsair Gaming K65
Corsair Gaming K70
Das Keyboard IV

Why not Das Keyboard IV?

Let's just settle on "xHCI".

it's eye candy. mechanical keyboards are a bigger meme than led's

Have you ever actually typed on one?

Its a fully custom keyboard. They sell the parts separate and I could solder everything myself. But I'm a pleb with no skills. Also the switches get oiled, springs changed and switches stickered for you.

It doesn't come with keycaps (will need to put o-rings on myself though) and if I had the skills I could program the sucker via command-line - I don't have the skills.

Needless to say though it fits the bill with what I'm looking for. Its just very expensive.

>imply my x99 mobo has ps/2

Mine does

Mine does not. ASUS X99 Sabertooth.

Asus are a bunch of jews, my X99 board is $50 less and has one.

Doesn't have that gay TUF armor or whatever they call it to charge more.

I'm sure it's an excellent keyboard but I maintain that they should use the latest controller technology at this price point.

>thinks you can't have RGB LEDs and run blanks
