Most likely the keys would never be visible to a human, but would be accessed indirectly via a token associated with a particular set of credentials and with a particular lifespan.

Stating the obvious doesn't make you any less wrong. Simply being connected to the internet is not a vulnerability in and of itself. It simply means that attackers can look for vulnerabilities. If there are no vulnerabilities present for them to exploit than being connected to the internet is not a problem. Learn how to use your head you ignoramous

Yeah, it's not, but there are many reasons for organized crime and terrorist groups to want to cause crashes. For example, criminals could enable a heist and escape by block traffic by crashing cars. Terrorists would crash cars both for reasons of maximizing damage in another terror attack or use the crashes as the primary attack. Intelligence services could use crashes on a small scale for their own purposes. Etc.
