I dunno but I found this neat

>tfw to smart to not invest in Explorer II's

Does user still update the poorfag watch guide

Nope

So, what, do I just buy a blue Ray II and get it over with?

It mostly still applies today.

Yeah it's a good choice
What are you looking for and what is your budget?

Automatic
Blue dial
~40mm
$200ish

I have no diver, that's why I was kind of looking at the Ray II. I don't like the small numbers on the Mako II bezel and I don't think the Mako USA II is worth $80 more. Not to mention, it looks sort of bland. I didn't like the round pips on the Ray at first but they're growing on me.

>that hand

jesus fucking christ is that a tumor or something

There are some corrections to be made, but unless the creator makes them it's not worth making a new one.

If he had a tumor, he'd eat it

>All those fuckin Rolex knockoffs

Go for it then. I have the blue Ray I and the dial looks great.
It's 41.5mm though.

Unfortunately, it's what sells. And cheap brands can't make good original designs.

Yep bunch of anti-social plebs trying to give fashion advice. Plus all the watches they glamorize are all shit brands brands anyway. It's all about the brand in the real business world.

Not shit terrorist watches and that knock-off brand Seiko

Which is worse guys:

1) "the collector"
>always buying new watches to get that passing honeymoon buzz and fill that gaping void with shiny inanimate objects
>can't part with any of them, and they rot away in his closet

2) "the flipper"
>always buying new watches to get that passing honeymoon buzz and fill that gaping void with shiny inanimate objects
>constantly selling off his watches after a few months

Sure, the flipper gives his watches a chance at another life with someone else, but for some reason the flipper strikes me as the more mentally unsound of the two.
Or simply the poorer of the two, putting him in the "30k millionaire" faggot bracket.

It goes without saying that anyone owning more than 2-3 watches (dresser, daily beater, super beater) is a faggot, no matter how rich he is.

Not everyone buys watches to make an impression on others. Some people just enjoy watches and buy what they like. Crazy, I know.

Most folks aren't in the "real business world" you speak of and even then, hardly anyone gives a shit about your watch

>And cheap brands can't make good original designs.

They can, it's just that they have no pride and would rather shamelessly copy others who make cool shit instead. The only thing worse than the shitter """"homage"""" brands are the tasteless plebs who buy that garbage.

It doesn't need an update, it needs to be remade entirely if anything.

I'm myself compiling a list of all the actually interesting, iconic, unique watches. Because really, 99% of watches out there are generic uninspired copies, and many remain uncopied and unmatched.

Here's my current list generally ordered by style:

>Diver
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms
Rolex Submariner
Tudor Black Bay
Doxa Sub
Vostok Amphibia
Seiko 6105 'Turtle'

>Square
Cartier Tank
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
Cartier Santos Dumont

>Racing/chronometer
Omega Speedmaster
Zenith El Primero
Heuer Monaco
Seiko 6138 'UFO'/'Yachtman' & 'Jumbo'

>Pilot
IWC Portuguese
Breguet Type XXI
Sinn 556
Sinn U*
Sinn EZM*
Breitling Navitimer
Seiko 6117 Navigator Timer

>Dress
Patek Philippe Calatrava
Rolex Datejust
Audemar Piguet Royal Oak
Grand Seiko
Panerai Luminor

>Alpinism
Seiko Alpinist
Victorinox I.N.O.X.
Rolex Explorer

>Digital
Casio Digital Classic/F-91W
Casio Data Bank
Casio G-Shock
Seiko G-757
Tissot T-Touch

>Unclassifiable
Accutron Spaceview
LIP Mach 2000
Autodromo Group B
A. Lange & Sohne Datograph
Hamilton Ventura
Mondaine Classic
Orient Disk
Seiko Giugiaro 7A28-7000

What would you add?

No they can't. It's actually really hard to make a good original design, believe it or not.
And getting someone to make one for you is really expensive.

Wow, you're a fucking retard.

It's not really a question of design though, it's more a question of the materials used: if you use shitty materials, you can't make good designs, otherwise they just look cheap.
The designs of cheap watches are in fact incredibly well thought out, simply they're made with the cheap materials in mind, trying to hide their shitty quality as much as possible.

Thanks user.

>Tudor Black Bay
>Anything but a budget submariner

>3 Sinn pilots

>Grand Seiko isn't a watch

>Ugly Victorinox i have never heard of

>Ugly Tissot I have never heard of

I think the SKX also belongs on the list over the turtle tbqhwy.

Meant as a response to

Will this strap be too thick for the Black Bay?

massdrop.com/buy/guarded-goods-shell-cordovan-watch-strap/

I would remove Doxa which is an absolute garbage brand that costs way too much money considering they're made in fucking China.

I would replace it with an Oris Aquis Depth Gauge which is actually something unique (and relatively new).

Some other watches I'd throw in would be a VC Malte for the square category (actually more barrel shaped but it's unique an beautiful)

Throw out the Sinn watches they're shit.

"Alpinism" should be changed to field watch.

Source on the SARB being made in China?

My Seiko snkl83j1 from CreationWatches finally arrived!

Open the case back, it says made in china on the inside.

Sorry for potato quality.

Well this isn't so much a list of "my favorite watches", I mean there's a Panerai in there, it's just that I find them well-designed, unique, iconic and/or influential.

I find the Black Bay largely different, with color tones and contrast that are unlike anything else, though I wouldn't wear one, the Tissot T-Touch was full of innovation and a best-seller, though I wouldn't wear one either, Sinn designs are recognisable, very influential, yet still varied, and that Victorinox is well-known in some circles as an affordable, bomb-proof mechanical.

As for Grand Seiko, they obviously exist in many options, but I'm listing ranges in here too. All GS are still similar in design.

>Oris Aquis Depth Gauge
Was currently mirrin' Oris watches, plenty good stuff in there. Though Doxas are still quite iconic and there's plenty great vintage ones.

VC Malte is pretty good though.

Why did Zenith decide to mess with perfection?

Also WHAT were they thinking with that overlap that covers the chronograph minute markers? Like how can designers working for a big watch company make such a stupid mistake?

>I think the SKX also belongs on the list over the turtle tbqhwy.
They kinda both belong, but the Turtle certainly does.

It's more than iconic, being the absolute Vietnam watch, sold in US army stores during the war, worn by both sides as Vietcongs picked them off dead bodies, and still common among veterans. It's also seen in countless movies, most notably Apocalypse Now.

Nothing screams "Phế liệu máy bay trực thăng này! Lỗ đít!" like a Turtle.

damn your list.

THIS graph shows all of you -- ALL OF YOU, all that you need to know.

I think user just wanted to list nice and original looking watches, not argue which brand is the best. Even with your graph, that doesn't quite give me an idea of what good watches there are from either of those brands.

It doesn't even mention odd brands, like Lip, or the Autodromo Group B that got posted just last thread: )
Meanwhile, your list is fucking garbage:
>Swatch
>Chris Ward
>Hublot
>Panerai
>Hublot
>Richard Mille

Upboated kind sir
Show us how many of the top tier you actually own then
I don't know bro.. But I want the 1969 so bad, or a Vacheron.

How bankrupt would we all go if we won the lottery

the overlap is great

good article on filippo loreti

8past10.com/articles/post/1/588a0e4a00079a12589e2e31

if i won the lottery i'd just buy a nomos to be honest

>shitty kickstarter watch is made in china
WHO
WOULD
HAVE
GUESSED

what kind of filth would buy vc, hublot, ap, or panerai? disgusting.

money certainly can't buy one taste. or class.

What's wrong with AP and VC?

AP makes other watches than the Offshores.
And VC doesn't really make anything offensive.

Looking for a midsized dive watch(40mm) for under $200 that you can actually take swimming

What can I get?

you don't think this is horribly offensive? it looks like an AP knockoff.

blech.

It looks pretty damn good. And just because it has an integrated bracelet doesn't make it a RO.

I thought turtles were much more recent

Not a fan of the big case, but this makes me like them more.

What's the meaning of the Viet sentence?

Best cheap

Digi
Diver style
Minimal style (DW, etc)

Watches?

f91w
mdv106
$4 fake dw from ali

I'm pretty sure the just cases SARB models are made in China. I have never read about any other part in the SARB line coming from there. Please correct me of I am wrong though.

BOCTOK

SKX013, might have to stretch your budget a bit. How many more fucking times are you going to ask this question?

...

The thing is that we don't know, and japanese law states that it's enough for the chinese production to be overseen by a gook to qualify as "made in japan".

So it's made in china.

Seiko makes their stuff in Malaysia if anything.

Entirely untrue. I've worn a $30 watch and someone thought it was a $600 watch. People only care how nice it looks, not everyone in the real world is informed about watches.

>You should buy Rolex and not IWC
Lol what?

Nah m8. Japan or Korea.

It's funny how IWC have been around a lot longer than Rolex, yet Rolex have managed to refine their processes and are able to create 100% in-house to a near flawless standard while launching many significant innovations over the years.

IWC are still busy putting ETA movements in their overpriced polished turds

>launching many significant innovations
Such as?

The waterproof watch
The GMT watch
The date complication
The automatic movement

>presenting useful information as memes

Yep, Self-winding rotor and Waterproof case are probably the biggest ones

Automatic movements have been around much longer than Rolex. It's just the 360 degree rotating weight that's new.

bumper movements are shit. oscillating weights made automatics viable

Keep in mind, the oscillating weight isn't truely first done by Rolex, as there were some watches in the 1700s made that way. But it was so few and elusive Rolex may not have known about them at the time.

But improving automatic mechanisms is categorically different from inventing it.

Should I buy a snk809 as my first auto being a poorfag and all? I've looked at a lot of watches but this one may fit my bitch wrists. I'm still a little apprehensive but am sure this is the best in its price range of ~ £60
Do I pull the trigger or are there any other alternative?
I'm a little worried about the strap like if I get a brown hirsch strap with it will this suit my light brown complexion

yes get it

I really like mine. I wear it a lot in the summer because it's small and light. And it's cool to show people the windowed caseback

Cheers for the replies guys I appreciate it.
What straps would you recommend

How does a Grand Seiko compare to something like a Tudor Pelagos with in-house movement?

I mean in terms of quality, fit and finish, movement, ...

go for it

it's perfect for that role

Does Sup Forums really have a boner for Rolex and their richer-than-average-redneck watches?

If you read the thread you will soon see that most of us are in fact not exactly Patek collectors.

If you go see some in person I think you'll notice a pretty big difference.

Are Tudors not as nice as Grand Seikos?

>poor faggot bitch rant
lol

>while launching many significant innovations over the years
MAJOR KEK

The new in-house Tudors are actually nicer than most GS.

Movement-wise sure, but in terms of finishing it's not even close.

good quartz moonphase?

You guys are a bunch of insecure poorfags trying to compensate by wearing overpriced jewelry.

If you want to check the time, get something that does it more durably and efficiently. Pic related

The only one sounding like an insecure poorfag is you.

...

Just got this beat up vintage automatic watch from a german micro brand, apparently a jeweller/watchmaker from Hannover, for just 27€ shipped from an eBay auction.
Not sure about the movement but I think it's ETA based. Do you guys like it?

Explain to me again how a $1000 Sinn is objectively superior to a Casio digital watch

I'll be waiting

You won't look like you live in your parent's basement still

Btw the seller claims that it's a steel case but the scratches tell me that it could be chromed plated brass like my vintage slavshit watches.

Haha I thought so faggot. Casio superior

Like I said. Go take a look.

In what way would you say they are nicer?

Because the Sinn, even though I don't like their designs, doesn't look like a plastic piece of crap.

Also, it will last longer, more than a few decades at least, wich is longer than any plastic Casio.

Oh my God are you trying to bash sinn again you never stop

I had the same one in blue
My shitty ex gave it to me for valentines. It somehow fell the day she broke my heart, and the seiko logo fell off the dial.
I removed it and thought I would just wear it as a beater or something, but for the first and only time in my life, the springbar failed and it fell like 4 feet on concrete. Needless to say it doesn't work anymore, it's like the watch reflected my relationship.
Btw fuck you lisa

Why so insecure about your shitty Casio?

There's literally nothing wrong with casio thoough. Sinn is my favorite mid tier brand however, and I need a 903 in my life.

Some unhelpful faggots you are

King Quartz or LM Special, Sup Forums?

I already have a King Seiko so my need for hi(ish)-beats is pretty sated and I'm really just looking for something I can wear all the time
