Should I get an XFX 480 to replace my two 670s while I wait for Vega?

Will we ever see a 4870 value card again?

Not until AMD pulls their finger out. NVIDIA will keep pushing for higher prices.

I got the R9 Nano for 240 usd. Pretty good value.

picked up an EVGA 970 SC from MicroCenter for 145 USD. Could not be happier.

sure why not
do you have freesync?

470 is pretty much 4870 value

Nah just wait for Vega. It's a waste of money imo to buy one card that's out right now whenever the one that you want is coming out soon.

>not getting a 4gb 480 for under 200 burger tokens
cmon lad

Ultimate question, 1060 or 480?
I'm not playing many heavy games, just shit like Overwatch and MSC.

4gb msi armor for example has been 150 burgers on sale

doesn't even matter really, depends on if you prefer amd or nvidia. amd opengl performance is garbage tho just to let you know

if you really don't mind getting the bottom of the barrel model, sure. i saw a sapphire nitro 4gb 480 for 190 once, not including rebate.

>bottom of the barrel
its the same performance essentially, just set your own overclock.
might be a tad louder or hotter but who gives a shit
the xfx has been 154.99
even the strix was 144.99 late november

Top kek

Currently have a GTX 760. Possibly looking to upgrade if its worth it. Im looking at either Saphire Nitro+ 8GB RX 480 or an EVGA 6G 1060
I have a 1080p 60hz montior and wont be upgrading that anytime soon.

Thoughts on which to go with, if at all or wait another cycle or two?

XFX RX480 is better. Runs way cooler and is more stable on OC.
I'd get the 480 now, since AMD cards mature better and they're really cheap.

I have no plans to do any overclocking myself...if its factoy thats fine, but Im not messing with it.
I had a Saphire 4850 back in the day that treated me really well, so Id prefer to stay with Saphire.

won a 760 Ti (670) on ebay for $60 to put in my old machine.

pic related, i was aiming for the best bang for the buck gpu and that's what i got.

i should note that pic related is after shipping, not just the card cost itself. the 760 ti was like 68 after shipping.

meh Ill stick with Saphire
I dont need swappable LED memfans

Sapphire fans are also meme swappable and the led's on the xfx can be turned off. The xfx has an objectively better VRM design and higher quality component choice all around.

I know it's fucking crazy considering how shit xfx has been up to this point, but they really knocked it out of the park this time around.

stop using passmark

New or used? If so is it still available? I thought my Sapphire R9 Nitro was a steal at $260 but I would love to get a Nano for a custom ultra mini build.

Intel's latest drivers for the HD4600 now allow for monitor overclocking. How do I do that? I know AMD and nvidia have specific applications aimed at that, but what about intel?

passmark isn't the end all to be all but it's a huge as fuck database that you can get data from quickly for just about any gpu ever for a general idea of relative performance.

next time around i may do a 3dmark one instead.

Bro synths are a terrible metric for comparing cards across multiple generations. They speak nothing of real world performance because they only require a single driver for compatibility. Once you reach the point where some cards have game specific drivers and other don't synth scores are completely irrelevant.

My HD 7870 still got driver updates until I replaced it with a fury two months ago while I know for a fact that 760 to got dropped like an ugly baby long, long ago.

Hello, gcg,

I am trying to give my GTX 750 TI a 10% overclock. I have a 6pin power supply attached to the card and am bumping the voltage by .5V. I increase the voltage after reading in several places that it is required in order to achieve a stable overclock.

Would anyone here agree that this seems legit?

Yes it's overclocking 101.

Read through a detailed guide on overclocking GPU's from start to finish to understand why before you go fiddling with it more. Most cards will have se form of protection to prevent you from bricking it out of sheer stupidity but you're still risking greatly reducing its life span by putting it at unideal settings.

no shit? what are you, babby's first pc builder? i don't need the lecture about all that shit i already know. 7870 is $85-$90 and that's more than i wanted to spend for the machine this is going into.

Calm down buddy I wasn't even trying to suggest my card, it was just a real world example. That said if your budget is so tight it's broken by a $30 difference you should probably consider shoveling some more snow or doing some extra chores around the house before buying obsolete hardware.

Do most cards these days have multiple BIOSs that you can switch between in case you fuck something up?

it's called profit margins for budget systems, it's not for me.

if it was for me i'd have just got a 7970/280x or a 290 desu senpai.

usually they will be advertised as dual bios if they do. dual bios saved my ass pretty recently.

I appreciate the response. I am being cautious because of the wide spectrum of information provided. I have just decided that an overclock is not needed and I will simply enjoy my upgrade from a 460M even though it is a reference card.

Has amd made any half-height card of this gen?

Oh don't get too scared my friend. Many cards can handle having "power limit," which is just a slider for overvoltage, set to maximum and then you just increase clockspeed gradually while performing stress tests. Once you find a clockspeed that the card can maintain with proper stability you can begin dialing back voltage while again runming stress tests with each change.

It's not rocket surgery it's just tedious.

The reason I stress reading an in depth article is so you understand what to look for and what exactly it is you're doing to your card to achieve an overclock.

No but they made a single slot rx 460

Won't fit into my cousin's sff pre-built. I will just get that 1050 then

>Prebuilt

3dmark would be at least better than passmark

vegaaaaaaaaa wheeeeeeennnnnnnnn

A simple case is like, 20 bucks, then you get any choice of card you want. Don't be a dumbass your cousin isnt going to be emotionally connected to his shitty hp case

who 1070 here

that sff prebuilt's mobo is probably proprietary and won't accept a normal psu top kek

>caselet

No, we arent gay

whom /Titan XP/ here

who /vegawhen/ here?

who over 10 TFLOPS here?

whom here?

>who /gay/ here
ftfy

who /amdisgoingtodisappointonceagain/ here?

...

What about the whole
>crossdressing to program
thing?
Is it straight crossdressing if you imagine the dildo you suck on is a girl's dick?

Fuck I just want Vega to come out already. Sick and tired of waiting. I want something that is around the performance of a 1080 but doesn't cost almost a fucking grand in CA. The longer amd wait the higher expectations people will have. "poor volta" oh don't you dare forget about that, y'all better deliver on that shit!

480 vs 1060 in hevc and video playback?

RX480

rx 480

Would it be better to get an 8gb RX470 (Sapphire nitro) or a 4GB RX480 (XFX)?
Both are the same price (~300 ausbux)

>these AMD shills

>WAAHHHHHHH PEOPLE WONT BUY MY KEK CARDS REEEEEEEEE

if you are at 1080p then probably the 4gb rx 480

got a 4K monitor...best AMD card for me?

can't wait either

why?

no reason, just shilling

Save up another $100 dollarydoos and get the 8gb XFX GTR black

This. That's what I'm going to do. You're better off spending slightly more in the long run.

GTX 1080 or Titan XP. AMD doesn't have anything that can perform at 4k.

>replying to NVIDIA shill bait

>ignoring facts

it's clearly a fact that you're a SHILL

>70 something replies
>No mention of the nigger fingers

I want to fuck around with Vulkan as a side project. What cheapest GPU to get to do that? Radeon R7 or Geforce 710 GT?

280x here

Should I upgrade or buy a ps4 instead

RX 460

wait for vega

Intel HD 520 is enough too

Wait until this summer for the Polaris refresh to happen.

That would cost more then entire PC it is going to be plugged in.

No intel 520 in in an old dual opteron system.

Why hasn't amd released a 1080 competitor? Are they simply too shit?
