actually configurable, has thumbnails that can be sized, bookmarking sidebar, devices sidebar, tabs, dual-view/side-by-side view.

it's by far the greatest FM on Linux. only Finder is better.

Is dolphin a fork of nemo or what?

ranger

what? why would you think that? nemo is a fork of nautilus, dolphin is the kde fm

>2017
>floppy disk

What should I use If I only want to drag and drop meme pictures to shitpost?

They look identical.

maybe as default but dolphin is better and more robust.

explorer.exe
nautilus
dolphin
finder

Dolphin

Is that in order of memory hogging?

Can you explain why dolphin sometimes gets stuck using over 100% cpu time (quad core cpu, so it's using more than one core) and only kill -9 makes it go away?

Doesn't happen to me. What distro are you on?

so Finder is the best FM ever?

Mint KDE 17.3

Also interested because I don't wanna keep a heavy as fuck FM to do that when I always end up using bash to navigate

it just werks

that was easy

>Mint KDE
Shit dude, your KDE is probably outdated as fuck.
With KDE you really want a rolling distribution. I'd recommend KDE Neon or Arch.

Plasma 5 is garbage.

I've gotten this set up just how I want, reinstalling would mean doing another 2-3 hours just customizing the desktop. Fuck that, I'll just make a script I can fire whenever the dolphin starts acting uppity.

Nemo.

It's a tidied up Plasma 4 with a different theme.

Yeah, just slower and buggier.

yes. i've tried them all. unfortunately I don't own a mac so can't use it. but it is the best. Nemo has copied a lot of functionality, however, and isn't that bad. But it does have some bugs. Preview is also much nicer on Finder. most other things are much nicer as well.

GNOME one is the fucking worst. Thunar (xfce) is pretty shit too.

>Implying a sane user would ever use KDE. It's a sluggish piece of shit. MATE is the only answer. MATE is like 42. The is no and there never will be a better desktop.

i switched from pcmanfm to spacefm a few years ago

Can MC copy/move be configured to always recurse subdirs and more importantly, verify/crc32 the results to make sure the files were actually successfully copied?

A good file manager always shows the exact and complete path to the folder the user is in.

Thunar.

>mate

AAAhhhahahahaha no. Get out.

elaborate

It boasts the option and it can do that.

You were saying?

it always recurses subdirs when copying, and you can use compare dirs (C-x d) to verify. not sure which algorithm it uses though.

Your fonts look like ass my man.

Recommend me some better fonts, then, Einstein. Please.

I have just switched. Thank you for that. I didn't even know about spacefm but I already love it.
Wincucks be jelly because of their touch UI.

oh god that icon theme! QUICK TELL ME WHAT ICON THEME

I'm using thunar but it's a bit shit, just as xfce is just a bit shit in general. I tried using nemo but there were graphical glitches on i3. I'm not downloading 150mb of KDE dependencies for dolphin.

I'll try nemo again but what else is there?

The "me" in your sentence is superfluous and can be construed as you requesting yourself to be a recommendation ffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuck

itsfoss.com/oranchelo-icon-theme-linux/

We need a word like ebonics but for pajeet English.

What a dork.

why don't you just finish typing scrotum into your terminal?

poobonics?

mmm not quite right

XD

How about the god damned terminal?

Who the fuck needs a GUI-based file manager? Might as well go back to Windows/macOS.

Holy shit, those fonts are awful.

The unironic answer is Finder.

>cd xyz
>ls
>cd zyx
>ls
>cp shit /usbdrive

vs.

>drag&drop file to usbdrive
>done

Have a (you). Now fuck off. Ree.

>Load up GUI
>Navigate to where the file is
>Copy
>Open up a new tab
>Navigate to where USB drive is
>Paste

vs.

>cp -r /path/to/file /path/to/usbdrive
>done

Not quite.

Tab completion is just as fast and in a lot of cases easier because of globbing.

serious question: do you think RMS consumes child pornography? I mean, he's obviously a virgin so that would fit. I can really imagine him going off to 2 year old boys,

Gui is always loaded anyway. Having to remember paths to shit is terrible.

RMS is a robot. Loli android maids > everything else.

I'd just like to interject for a moment, I'm a single atheist white man, 55, reputedly intelligent, with unusual interests in politics, science, music and dance.

I'd like to meet a woman with varied interests, curious about the world, comfortable expressing her likes and dislikes (I hate struggling to guess), delighting in her ability to fascinate a man and in being loved tenderly, who values joy, truth, beauty and justice more than "success"--so we can share bouts of intense, passionately kind awareness of each other, alternating with tolerant warmth while we're absorbed in other aspects of life.

My 25-year-old child, the Free Software Movement, occupies most of my life, leaving no room for more children, but I still have room to love a sweetheart if she doesn't need to spend time with me every day. I spend a lot of my time traveling to give speeches, often to Europe, Asia and Latin America; it would be nice if you were free to travel with me some of the time.

If you are interested, write to rms at gnu dot org and we'll see where it leads.

>File Manager
Just use ls

lmfao

There isn't one user

What about muh reaction pics

>i haven't used zsh: the post

>FLOPPY DISK

What do you guys base the greatness of a file manager on? Personally I don't really care. I've been using Thunar, which apparently is shit, which I wouldn't have noticed myself. Why should I look into switching and what to?

This
Dolphin is superior.

I'd recommend openSUSE over Neon. The Leap version of Plasma stays fairly up-to-date, and even Tumbleweed is more stable than Neon.

KDE's only sluggish if you're too retarded to turn off visual effects. Or are trying to run it on a toaster.

>he's obviously a virgin so that would fit
Really? Is there a correlation between being a virgin and consuming child pornography. I've never heard of it, care to elaborate? Just sounds odd to me.

Console:
1:MC
2:ranger -it's ok but i dont always like to have the python dependancies

gui:
1.SpaceFM (minimal and customizable with scripts and terminal commands)
2. refer to above.
3.thunar if you like bloat.

>nemo > *
I agree

>only Finder is better
>.DS_Store
>no path bar (kek)
>not customizable to the level of nemo

i honestly like pcmanfm. very little dependencies. gvfs is completely optional for example.

PCManFM crashes a lot for me. the back button on the mouse is also not bound by default, which is annoying.

Nautilus and Nemo are both missing features I want.

I've had the best experience with Dolphin

>nemo > *
this tb.h

The GNOME file manager's name is Nautilus

>no tabs

>batch renaming files
>tabs
>column view
>customizable toolbar

is there even a competition?

...

xyplorer is the best file manager i've ever seen, on any OS. massive feature set but still very easy and straightforward to use, very customizable.

only complaint is the themeing support is a bit weak.

But floppy drives look cool as fuck and I like to see what's on the disks I find at Goodwill.

...

>I can really imagine him going off to 2 year old boys
Do you imagine this a lot?

Which file manager is that? Nemo?

It's Files

Files? What's next, a music player called "Music"?

>is there even a competition?
unfortunately, no. but I wish some linux FE would copy it as closely as possible. it's damn near perfect.

nvm, found out it was on elementary. ew.

Already exists
elementary.io/#showcase-music

it's not the best. it's fucking bare-bones. and it might look like Finder, it has 1/100th of its features. Nemo is way closer to Finder.

can't adjust icon size? can't even switch between icon/list/compact views?

nigga, that's a shit FM.

Dolphin.
Panes, tabs and per dir configuration.
And best of all: built in terminal.
Now you don't have to switch between a terminal and a file manager as you use the best of both worlds.
And if you prefer to make right click menu's, that is easy too.

b-but you can do both of that

>files

not in the UI. fucking show me.

Batch file renamer. Media tags.

Muh soopuhr seekrit klubhaus.

>RMS is a robot

A sperging communist pedophile robot.

>/run/media/user/(cripticuuidcodeforyourusbunit)/
Yeah, cli is so efficient

Nautilus

/run/med/u//etc.
Midnight Commander.

>let's his devices be mounted in a retarded path
>blames cli

ranger,xfe
