What's a nice, portable USB dac/amp to go with Beyerdynamic DT 880pro?
For reference, I'm using my Onkyo A-9070 integrated amp and the haedphones pack much more punch when amped. But I want something that I can carry in my backpack and doesn't require an additional power source.
All the FIIOs I've found are rated up to 150 Ohms, but not 250 Ohms headphones.
What do?

whats the oldest pair of headphones you listen to? i got an old hd 414, "the senn that sounds like a grado". good for jazz, acoustic, rock from the era (60s/70s). shits the bed on bass, and if it was mixed sloppily, boy howdy fuck your ear canal you'll sure notice it
ps not my pic but it's still got the same dorkass yellow pads

I currently own Sony 7506, Philips SHP9500, Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm, M50x and some Sure se215 for drum monitoring. I use a Fiio e10k for an amp, I like the 7506 (without amp) and SHP9500 the most out of these, what would be a logical upgrade for me?
Nathaniel Cooper
K702 you seem to prefer bright headphones, which is what AKG's strong point is. If you want a slight bass boost as well have a look at K7XX or K612. However K7XX is massdrop exclusive and K612 doesn't have a detachable cable

Has to be able to drown out shitty fitness world background music without damaging my hearing (ie some degree of isolation or noise cancellation has to be present)
Has to be wireless and phone-friendly (no wifi docking station)
Looking at jaybird x3
Mason Cooper
Sounds good, thanks for the reply
William Martin
reminder as always, don't just buy recommendations, look around a bit on other reviews and such.
the X2 barely improved over the X, so there's a possibility the same goes for the X3
From a single short review I read, it seems the sound quality might be worse than the previous headphones. So consider looking more into comparisons between bluebuds X, jaybird X2 & X3
Alexander Morris
if watched 2 reviews now, and they seem to claim x3 is an actual upgrade. Dunno if sponsored content though (they made no mention anywhere of that)
Brandon Anderson
also, these are my first sports / bluetooth headphones i m looking to buy. Wondering if the jaybird series is ok for that purpose really.
I m completely noob at this and not a regular on this board.
Adrian Brooks
if they're from decent sized youtubers, which I assume they are, if they aren't they're most likely not sponsored regardless. I doubt they would risk not mentioning it's sponsored content because I think there's harsh punishments for that.
It doesn't seem to be much more expensive either so I don't think you can go wrong with it. It also seems to have a higher amazon review score than X & X2
Jace Morgan
alright thanks. Glad to know I m not overlooking something major. I ll go order them now.

Have these plantronics go 2 and I like em very much.
Is there anything similar but with stronger bass/lows? Have to equalize the shit out of low end to fit my taste.

Best OP image in a while. Thank you.
MDR-7506. Easy to drive, closed back headphone which is quite neutral. The HyperX Cloud isn't a bad recommendation at all especially if you feel like there's a need for a mic. Comfort is somewhat subjective but both are generally comfortable. If you are unsure, order from a place with a return policy.
They Jaybirds are fine. Bassy but so are most in-ears. Not everyone seems to like their fit but if that's no issue for you, the X2 should be great.
If you are really fixated on the brand or small things in construction, you will be limiting your options quite a lot. I can't think of any headphone from either brand which would fit into that criteria.
DT770 would be a V-shaped, closed back option but I have a feeling that in AUD these would cost more than your budget. They are almost universally comfortable and many seem to like how they sound.
MDR-7506 would be a close to neutral closed back headphone which goes for less and which I personally prefer over the DT770 due to its sound signature.

Fed up with wireless headphones and would like something nice. I trust Sennheiser and will probably weigh them more heavily in decisions.

does anyone know how many mw of power a headphone jack outputs from a PC? wondering if buying a Fiio K1 dac/amp would improve the bass of my Sennheiser HD 558.

I'll EQ it, but I don't want BLRRT BLRTT bass at +5dB. Love the treble on the 662 Evos. The HD665 and HD685 look interesting, can anyone comment on them or compare all three? I need something with 50-100 impedance to compensate for that shitty sound card.
Xavier Richardson
/hpg/ recommend me a good tube amp for my HD600, budget around 300$.
Coming from SS I felt that things were detailed but 'plain' and what bothered me the most-mids/vocals being too cold and harsh. I don't want a dark sound from my HD600, just something softer/warmer and that's why I am thinking about Vali 2. It's a hybrid and should have best of both words. Anyone can reccomend it?

Brainwavz HM5

Save your autismbux and get a Valhalla 2. Then uncle putie can sell you some NOS tubes that will rock your world.
If i get a DT 770 PRO 250 ohms, suggest an amp less than 100$ and perferably portable.
Jason Sanders
FiiO series are generally good. The more you pay, the more you get.
Alexander Evans
E10K
Luis Wood
How about the portable ones?
Brayden Hall
It's a USB powered device, what are you talking about? Are you looking for something to work with smartphones? You'll need to cough up extra cash for something like audioquest dragonfly series devices.
Luis Sanchez
Yeah, i was thinking about that but i'll just look into the E10K for now since i'm low on cash. Thanks.
John Gutierrez
You can connect it to iphone via usb adapter.
Charles Stewart
Are you sure that is going to work?
Lucas Wilson
I did it with my Herus from Resonessence Labs, but it's designed as a portable DAC.
Colton Lopez
>$350 for a USB dongle
Tyler Harris
I get it from my colleague for $100 and satisfied with it.
Jackson Murphy
Why did he sell it for $100 or at all?
Jonathan Campbell
I dont know how to hang these things :V
Daniel Williams
He got 2 more DAC's and wanted to upgrade. Also nobody wanted to buy a USB dongle for 200-300 bucks.
Angel Carter
What the hell is wrong with that guy?
Landon Rivera
Can't understand what are you talking about. He just doesn't think about money and profit too much. I think you should not count other's people money.
Owen Rivera
I'm not American, so I am utterly unable to comprehend such money spending, but good health to him.
Owen Mitchell
I dont want a mic and im hearing that you should stay away fro m gaymer headsets. im jusy looking for starter audiophile headphones not more gaymer junk
Jose White
Me too, I'm from Russia. But I don't think money is something that worths more than a good device.
Ive never owned audiophile headphones before and I am looking for some to introduce me. They will be be mainly used for Music and movies, and FPS games Thanks
Bentley Mitchell
Hi /hpg/
With decent-ish headphones (Momentum M2) How much of an improvement would I hear using a ~300$ DAC over an on-motherboard soundcard?
Bentley Bell
>mfw my phone drives my headphones better than my desktop Looking at either getting a Fulla or just the amp itself, maybe a Magni or O2. Would it be better getting a good amp now and maybe a separate DAC down the line or just go with the combo?
James Bennett
Any recs for a large cheap amp for my desk? Price under $100. It has to be as big as possible but also have decent sound.
Connor Long
Opinions on Brainwavz HM5s? Heard they have good soundstage and neutral response.
Chase Lee
Why is the size of the amp relevant?
Just get something from Schitt.
Nathan Adams
Aesthetics, senpai.
Chase Foster
About to buy shure 535.
Am I doing good?
Luke Morgan
Should I get leather or velvet/velour replacement pads?
Nolan Price
I got the Superlux 662 EVO and there was so much sound leaking so I bought the 668b to compare. They literally have the same amount of sound leak. I'm pretty sure 662 EVO is then just open headphones advertised as closed. I'm posting this so others are informed and beware of these trash headphones.
Angel Davis
Does anyone have a equalizer preset for Beyerdynamic Dt770s that might make them good for gaming? I.E. close to neutral with just a small bass kick.
Jayden Williams
Recommendations for durable portable headphones? I just want something to throw in my bag if I need/want to listen to something in public without being an asshole.
I've had issues with portapros breaking easily.
Wont be amped Rotating cups a plus Under $100 but preferably under $50 as they're not going to my regular pair.
Robert Green
Best budget headphones coming through.
Logan Sanders
interested in this too so bumping
Benjamin Cook
Soundmagic E80 Not so good. I'd get HD600/650 instead of 700s. Little dot Mk iii
Christian Hall
>trash headphones Just pull out the ear pads and duct tape the holes. Look up head-fi's mod. HD662 Evo are great sounding headphones objectively and for the price.
Camden Hernandez
See the Superlux getting a lot of love, might grab a pair just to try them out since they're so cheap.
What are the best sounding? (open or closed)
Which are the most neutral? (if the answer isn't the same as best sounding)
Jaxson Reyes
the 553s are a pretty good option for your demands my first good pair of headphones was a K551 i got for 77€ new and it blew my mind
Connor Mitchell
No idea mate, just look at frequency response charts. My 662 Evos perform well all-round but I'm eyeing the HD 685s for extra bass.
>Look up head-fi's mod can't find it on google. got a direct link?
Gavin Lee
I'm looking to spend about $100.
Would there be anything desperately wrong with just grabbing the ATH-m40x?
Isaiah Myers

Brayden Collins
Warning: Ripping out the driver furry protection really does make the treble sometimes ear piercing. Proceed only if you have an EQ.
William Roberts
Do I just need to get used to these Dt770s or do they have no concept of height at all?
I was playing a video game with them and I heard footsteps pretty clearly but they sounded like they were coming right next to me when the enemy was actually an entire floor below me.
Gavin Davis
If you were playing Siege that's 100% normal
Juan Williams
It was Overwatch. I haven't tried these with Siege yet.
Easton Carter
Were you using any sort of HRTF or surround sound software?
Samuel Cruz
Nope.
Just Equalizer APO w/ Peace.
Joshua Gutierrez
Then what are you expecting? Thanks to microsoft, there hasn't been proper 3D audio in games since Vista came out.
Jaxson Collins
>If you are really fixated on the brand or small things in construction, you will be limiting your options quite a lot. I can't think of any headphone from either brand which would fit into that criteria.
Ok I will start again but better. Lets say that I dont care about brand. But what about that head bridge. Is it bad idea to want it on headphones? I mean its kinda comfy isnt it? Or is it just my imagination?
Luis Sanchez
SHOULD I be using some kind of Surround Sound software?
Easton Ramirez
Hrm, this poses a problem then. Guess I'll just keep using it like this.
James Watson
Meh, if you've got some cash to spend on something you might not like... What virtual surround does is basically emulate 5.1/7.1 out of 2.1 through binaural sounds. Because there is no extra information, this is just a gimmick. If you're into gimmicks, look up comparisons between Razer Surround (pirate it, works on Realtek), THX SBX (Creative), CMSS-3D (Creative), Xonar (Asus), and Dolby Headphone. Sound cards are only trouble for people who value sound quality of plug-and-play hardware. High output impedance and, at best, finicky amplification are not worth it for anything more than $40 "gaming" headsets. tl;dr unless the game supports HRTF, no, it's a gimmick.
James Morris
Do these look like good settings for Dt770s at 250Ohms?
Zachary Thompson
No, if you have to tweak an EQ, then you have the wrong headphones. Subjective opinion: mirror the treble settings into the bass.
Lucas Young
I'm never going to be 100% happy without buying $2,000 custom-made headphones.
EQing works.
Daniel Turner
That's what ((they)) want you to think. Learn to read frequency response charts.
Owen Johnson
The other pair of headphones I was looking at were AKG K553s and I knew I'd have to tweak those in EQ in order to get the bass response I desired. I know because I had K550s.
I'm sure I could have bought Audio-Technica MRS7s for $220. Or maybe even the Mayflower Fostex T50RP mod (even though those are semi-open which I don't like) but I probably still wouldn't have been fully happy.
