Firefox is already in its death throes, and I've switched to a fork that will probably keep alsa.

I have nothing to fear, they can't hurt me anymore

Well, no reason to use firefox at all once 45 support dies.

They know they're fucked in the end, might as well make extra dead so nobody uses it and they can drop support and rebrand as an internet safe space provider.

rest in rip firefox, may you be forked to eternity

>Deadfox
LMAO who cares

Make Pulse Audio a hard dependency on Linux so that we reduce the problems and maintenance associated with maintaining multiple audio backends.

Pulse depends on ALSA.
Just drop pulse and things get simpler.

I finally installed PA last month. No more fucking with .asoundrc and it just werks

Who cares? I use SeaMonkey.

Glad I switched to OSX.

Mot gonna lie. I just switched to firefox and it's great. They're even (mostly) compatible with chrome extensions.

Pulseaudio is not an issue for me. Can't wait for some of the features coming with the next release.

Just use beta. It's basically stable, just updated weeks earlier

>says he's not gonna lie
>lies anyway

It's true.

I switched because google is started to get hand-heavy with using their position to push their shit. That, and the fact that chrome on android doesn't allow extensions while firefox does sealed the deal.

uMatrix has become mandatory for web surfing at this point.

...

This made me install Firefox
Glorious Linux and Pro Sustemd masterrace

That's more like a bsd issue.

welp, dropped

does this mean i have to use chromium? because i really dont like that shit

I don't know what to use

I don't want pulse boat

I'm pretty sure there are some hipster forks of Firefox that are still not completely FUCKED. I think there's one called ice cat or something.

This.

>literally dropping the only thing that looks like a sane audio stack in linux for consuming audio for a shitty 80's solution
You also believe that the issues in X.org are Wayland developers FUD too?

Please help what is a good browser that isn't FF or GC . I have Windows because I'm a shit dick

Can someone explain what is wrong about that?

It's bad as a lot of folks don't use pulseaudio under Linux. Instead they use ALSA which on a high level is an I2S abstraction.
This change will require them to install pulseaudio to output sound via Firefox for example when watching a video w/ sound.
However most of the Linux users won't notice this change as all of they major Linux distributions use pulseaudio anyway.
The people complaining about it are the ones using Gentoo, Arch Linux and the like where you start with a minimal set of software packages and build your way up to the point where it fits your needs. In the most cases pulseaudio isn't required if you only want to output some sound.
In the end the people complaining the loudest are the ones least likely to take over maintenance of the said audio backend in Firefox.

what's wrong with pulseaudio? works fine for me

Arch supports pulseaudo exclusively. You are thinking of hipster distros like void or alpine etc trashes

Oh, thank you very much.

but

what

pulseaudio is terrible

why

Works just fine for me, faggot

I'm on void and I use pulseaudio.

I have had so many issues with it. It is absolutely silly!

pulseaudio builds up on ALSA. You can use ALSA w/o pulseudio but not vice versa

PulseAudio is indeed shit. It's a god awful contraption with annoying bugs, but it's also, unfortunately, the best/only alternative, with the least amount of hassle for setting shit up. I wish there was a better overall solution (emphasis on overall).

For the times I've used pulseaudio over the years, pulseaudio --kill was the go-to solution to any audio problem.

Currently my biggest issue is that it won't take my audio passthrough from qemu virtual machines so I can't start the machine with any libvirtd manager because you can't pick alsa as audio backend with those, so the machine starts with a shell script.

It also likes to rape my tempfs with error messages, causing at least one complete system breakage when mkinitcpio couldn't write temporary files and left my machine with broken initramfs. Partially my fault for letting the machine reboot in that state, though.

Back when we still used skype with friends, I'd happily install the old linux version and pulseaudio as a dependency. All my sounds disappeared until I replaced pulseaudio with apulse. It's stupid, but apulse is better software than pulseaudio is.

And if someone thinks that pulseaudio is the only sane part of linux' audio stack, pic related.

Well, looks like you wont be using Firefox then

Fucking SJW, niggers and faggots fucked up one of the best piece of software we had.
I hope gentoo USE flags will still allow to compile without pulseaudio, otherwise I am uninstalling firefox.

Because PulseAudio is the systemd of audio. It solves problems most people don't have, does so in a way that is inferior to the competition, and won through distro politics rather than technical superiority.

Why did you rule out JACK?

JACK is a specialized solution that works well for its' intended audience (professional audio work), but I find it's too complicated to work with for general purpose computer usage. Maybe my experience has just been bad.

i thought pulse stopped being laggy crap a few years ago

well
I kinda noob while also being archlinux user
the living meme
I had two times problems with audio that I dont remember and removing pulseaudio solved it both times

I did not bother with anything else, just removed it and everything works flawlessly

truth to be told I am not even sure what pulseaudio is, I think its some additional layer that can be in charge of customization volume per application or maybe some outputs or shit..

Why does Sup Forums love PulseAudio all of a sudden? It was made by lennart.

>Firefox
AFTER I USE IT FOR 30 MIN IT EATS SO MUCH CPU WHEN IT'S NOT REALLY DOING ANYTHING, I EVEN CLOSE ALL TABS EXCEPT A BLANK ONE AND STILL MUNCHES CPU UP TO 40-50% ON A DUALCORE, AND RAM DOESN'T DROP FROM 1.5GB, I WAIT FOR ANOTHER 15 MIN RAM CPU THE SAAAAAME.

WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUCK???

>tfw trying to fap using firefox
>open 50 links in the browser
>links keep loading for 12min
>ff freezes
>cpu 99%
>still loading
>dick soft

>open 50 video links in the browser
>the browser crashes
>the browser sucks

pulse audio is why NO ONE takes Linux seriously

There were image links

you fap to images when there's videos?
still, if you need that many sources to satisfy yourself, you should reconsider your habits

Dude I was opening 50 links with preview images for HD videos on a private site with pack of 500GB-1TB.
OK MOM??
Your browser still SUCKS THOUGH!
AND DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!

>this browser can't handle my insane porn addiction
>this browser sucks
lolok

who cares it's already dead lmao

Time to drop firefox

Fuck you Lennart.

Not gonna lie, former Firefox user here.
It's fun to watch Firefox crash and burn, but seriously use Vivaldi instead.

fucking exactly, you nigger

here we go again with these 12yo kids who think they know anything about anything

so? any serious distribution that has an exisiting userbase is using it anyways. nobody cares about the 0,000002% using some pseudominimal arch or gentoo. these people use links or some shit anyways

That's a terrible idea.

>issues in X.org
There are no issues with x.org. It's Wayland fud.

It will get fucked when firefox esr switches to 52

>insane porn addiction
Just cause I watch 4k and full bluray porn on muh 1 meter IPS doesn't mean YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO JUDGE MEEE!!

>using latest ff stable
>leave 6 tabs open (4chans+1 live youtube stream)
>come back after 1 hour, stream is working but ff is freezing
>doesn't unfreeze and have to kill the process
WTF is wrong with this software?

>leave firefox open for more than 50 minutes
>starts hogging 30gb of memory

>MFW I've had palememe open for over 4 days with like 20 tabs and it's only using 1.3 GB of RAM

>posting MFW without a face

>putting your face online
It's like you want to be hacked, kiddo

what does pizzagate have to do with firefox?

...

thanks mozilla

>pulseaudio
is this really an issue? even Slackware has switched over a long time ago since it was required by bluez

who the fuck watches porn in a browser anymore?
more than half of the extractors that come with youtube-dl are for porn sites
what is wrong with you?

Microsoft did that a long time a go with skype for linux

Jesus Christ, is there really people not using pulse audio yet? It's 2017 FFS.

Yeah but you only use youtube-dl for a couple that you might be able to fap to again, the majority stay in the browser.

Yes and some of us don't use systemd either. Muh SJW progressivism, it's current year!

(You)

>i don't use mpv because i'm a huge faggot

Thank god for palemoon.

Stop responding to pure cancer.

implying you know more than anyone

you suffer from arrogance

cancer doesn't go away if you ignore it. it metastasizes

I can't see why it shouldn't be enough to make pulseaudio a recommended package. IIRC most debian based distros would install this by default then. Some people can then just decide not install pa and be aware of possible consequences.

>there are no issues with xorg
>no hardware acceleration support
>tears like hell
>humongous ancient codebase

Welp, there's always w3m and equivalents.

Fuck javascript and all other bloat anyway.

>safari is shit
>chrome is botnet
firefox is the only browser I can use.

What about pure pricks?

If only it was that easy. 99% of sites are unviewable (even when they purely display plaintext data) without js nowadays.

What sites are you visiting? Most sites that display just text (eg, news sites) work fine without JS. Rather ugly sometimes, but I can almost always read the content.

If you try you just get blocked (cloudflare or mandatory ad overlay page served by the site itself, or "adblock detected" garbage)

>or mandatory ad overlay page served by the site itself, or "adblock detected" garbage
enable all the extra filter lists in UBO and install Reeks anti-adblock killer.

Actually killing JS *reduces* my problems with overlays, since that's how many of them are implemented. The ones that aren't are necessarily static content that you can kill with UBOs element picker.

How can you block a site without blocking a site? Tardo lardo.

What's the best way to not have pulseaudio with a proper desktop environment? Namely Gnome3 and KDE.

welp i've been wanting to try ungoogled-chromium.
>github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium
guess i now have a reason to stop being lazy and give it a go.

i just got done switching back to pure alsa and love it. never used any of the features pulse had and all it did was waste resources and occasionally had laggy sound. there is absolute no reason at all to use pulse unless you're a dickwad.

Install Gentoo, not possible otherwise.

its been awhile since i ditched gnome shortly after 3 landed, but it was possible to build gnome with pulseaudio disabled.

not sure if that's still possible and not sure about kde since i haven't touched kde since kde4.

>internet safe space provider

Oh god that sounds so plausible it's terrifying.

>let me call my issp and get this harmful website removed

thiisss

>remove master and slave references in code because black oppression WAAAHHHHH

Yes, this is a real problem. I've gone to using text-based browsers on older hardware.

>no hardware acceleration support
You sure about that?
