Is it a good idea to get a cat?

Not really.

If you're a cuck, sure.

no. get a vps

Don't get a white one, so much fur in summer

I want one so it can be @hotmale.com

How do you get cucked by a cat?! Are you into some weird furry shit?

>inb4 my girlfriend pay more attention to the cat than me

the domain is taken familia, there is just a :) on the page

No, for many reasons.

One is that you may be blacklisted by Spamhaus and shit so none of your emails will get delivered, it's like they collaborate with Jewggle and other major providers to ensure you can't use independent email.

Another is that you need to keep on top of updating and maint, less you get hacked and used for spamming. Best way to do this would be install generic OpenBSD on DigitalOcean for like $5/month, and configure OpenSTMPD it's dead simple to figure out, secure by default, and maint is quite easy for a *BSD otherwise you want djb's qmail

but who was smile?

Sent :^)

Yeah, basically,

1. Mail servers are hard, if you don't know if you need them you really don't

2. You will likely be blacklisted yeah, spammers use them so, yeah

3. Who fucking needs them anway. It would be extra bloatware.

/this you will get RBL'd to hell

It's a cartel. Generally email a shitty technology since around 1995 because it assumes people are trustworthy. You can have any reply-to you fucking want and any sender you fucking want.

So in a sense, Google and other botnets, might actually have a small point.

I mean, that technology should die, but even more so if the sender field is violated.

so? what would happen if i host my own email on the same adress from my own computers?

>using the smiley with a carat nose

I want to have a server on my house and run my mail and my personal website from it but its an expensive dream.

Nobody would be able to send you emails, but you could sent mails in their name (that would still be marked as spam automatically, though, because home IP ranges are on mail server blacklists) because hotmale.com has no DNS records that define a mail server or servers that are allowed to send mail on behalf of that domain.

No not really, mail servers are one of the hardest things to keep alive and running and have tons of pitfalls.

not op, but what about iredmail DO precunfigure image? probably ubuntu based, too insecure?

You're doing something wrong, user.

>*preconfigured
almost precuntfigured lol, sorry

Is there a distro with many of the servers type installed by default?

Only if you're a republican secretary of state.

Run your own mail/dns/web servers with a cheap VPS (Virtual Private Server).
Here's one for $1/month

>tfw on spamhaus blocklist without ever sending 1 mail
Not OP, but I just want a simple mailserver to recieve, not to send with

Debian and derivatives have the tasksel command

>expensive dream
not really
my home mircroserver cost about $150 (already had HDDs from previous computer). it runs a whole bunch of services both locally and to the internet. it can't handle huge loads and I don't have SSDs or RAID setups, but it can run a mail server and a website.
Dynamic DNS services run about $10-15/yr and ensure you can use a domain name even if/when your ISP gives you a new IP.
You already pay for internet, if your plan doesn't have high up speeds you might want to change to one that does but it should only be a marginal increase in cost.

the thing that should really be holding you back is not financial cost, but whether you want your IP and therefore your home network exposed to the world.

Why not, it worked out great for Hillary Clinton

>tasksel
Other than that.
I was looking for a distro with these servers pre-installed, to create a live DVD/USB then test web sites with it.

email account =/= email server

Why the fuck would you? If you're that fucking worried about le gubmint knowing your porn subscriptions, just make a junk mail account for only that and a proper account where you use pgp.

No, if you're a home connection and not a business there's blacklists maintained for home internet lines that prevent them from serving email.

spamhaus.org/pbl/

Unfortunately it is unlikely to be a good idea since the gateway operators are quick to ban and slow to react, thanks to endless spam. It might work less bad if you peer with known friends and perhaps freenets like SDR.

He meant catgirl. Or girl in catsuit. And both are splendid ideas.

Spamhaus cleverly realised they did not want Secret Service knocking on (or down) their doors, shooting their cats and arresting them all. Strange, isn't it?

You're better off with VirtualBox VM with a bridged connection if that's all you're going to do.

muh mx records . . .

>run your own email server

Nothing bad has happened ever because people chose to do this.

>at home

Just do it. You'll learn the fun way.

>there's blacklists maintained for home internet lines that prevent them from serving email.

it worked for VC and Hillary
