1000$ laptop + 1000$ desktop
obviously depends on your use cases
1000 (or more) desktop + 200-300 laptop
IDK, keep it as general as possible. Occasionally heavy computation, development, netfilx, shitposting
If you're okay with carrying a hulking 2000$ powerhouse with you at all times it's an option.
On the other hand that 1000$ ultrabook is more portable and the 1000$ workstation is easier to upgrade. Although I wouldn't even build a desktop for 1000$ as I don't game.
$500 laptop
+ $1500 desktop
$270 Intel Compute Stick plugged into a $150 IPS display. You can pay AWS/Azure pennies per hour for the occasional compute-intensive stuff.
how big is the chance your expensive laptop getting culturally enriched, tho
These two, and just VNC or something into the desktop when you can.
i would recommend staying at home most of the time, so imac and ipad
1337 laptop
666 desktop
lets be honest, why the fuck would you need a 1k laptop if you arent le epic gaming xD
unless of course youre a macfag, LOL
This desu. There is no other good option
$150 T420 with a $10 docking station
unless you still play games like a manchild then a desktop i guess
>not $2000 laptop and $1000+ desktop

$2000 laptop
>gtx1070
>i7 6700hq

$1000 laptop
>last gen Nvidia, probably 960m
>same 6700hq
$1000 desktop
>gtx1060 6gb
>i5 6500
I'd probably opt for $1500 desktop+$500 laptop. most laptops that powerful are pretty bulky and loud, so it's not really practical for taking to lectures
$1000 iPhone, $500 Chromebook and $500 Ultragape screen
Developing kewl machine learning stuff is on my list, for instance. How old are you?
become NEET + $2000 desktop
enjoy your inferior hardware, wagecucks.
I have an $1000 laptop with an external screen and keyboard, it's pretty good, only problem is that the laptop is a little heavy and the shit battery life (4 hours on light usage). I would not get a desktop because I don't need it, so having one would just complicate things, but I wouldn't fork out $2000 for a laptop either. I would probably go with $1000 laptop + $1000 server if I had to spend the additional money on something, or just get a 4K screen instead of the 1080p shit I have right now for the remaining $1000.
cringe
>compute stick
>heavy computation
pick one desu
>300 for laptop
>1700 for saving
Why piss away money? Invest and reap the rewards of usury.
>free internet bandwidth
i work with audio dsp in my case, how old are you sweetie?
$120 laptop + $150 server + several old netbooks I got for free
>it's not that i'm poor
>it's just that i'd rather save money
$1500 Desktop and $150 used Thinkpad is the clear choice. I ended up getting a T440 and a Yoga 260 for 150 total from some business that was closing.
1.5k laptop, 500 egpu
I have a great desktop but its collecting dust because i have a docking station for laptop that i carry aswell, so no need to sync any documents or break workflow
Laptop
-portable
PC
-can accept more hard drives
-much better ventilation during heavy loads
-the ability to upgrade GPUs or processors at a later date
$200 laptop + $200 desktop + $1000 server
laptop will have performance crippled mobile cpu.
