Ducky One fullsize with cherry blues
I can't decide on the switch, so I guess I'll get a tester. I really like the blues I have but want something that's not so loud as an alternative.
I'm considering the Leopold FC750R, doesn't come in clears though. Maybe reds with o-rings?
How good/bad is this board? Thinking of getting it for my first one. EagleTec KG010 for reference.
not mine, and don't worry, i won't put artisans on mine when i get it.
needs more dedicated arrow keys
>Budget
$150ish give or take a bit for board and caps since i'm sick of ABS caps
>Location (continent at least)
US
>Preferred switch type
Gateron Blacks,Cherry MX Black, Cherry MX clear, i'm open to a lot of options besides browns really (recommendations welcome just give details as to why its a good choice)
>Layout
ANSI
>Form factor
60%-75%
>Backlight
would be nice to have White LED or RGB
>Previous/current keyboards
CM quickfire stealth browns
Also can't do custom boards, recommendations on colorways?
So I'm really picky when it comes to the next keyboard I want to get. Full size, floating keys, metal plate mounted, clear or similar (Zeal, Mod) switches, PBT caps, no LEDs unless they're already included, and no media keys. Both custom sellers (Winkeyless, Gon) have things I don't like (media keys) and are expensive as fuck. I could wire and build one myself but would still require getting a proper case. The cheapest and easiest I see would be from just buying an existing chink keyboard and swapping the switches and caps.
tl;dr Is buying a chink mechanical keyboard just for the case and PCB a viable option?

Yes, preferably either blue or white. Nothing RGB.

You know both winkeyless and gon sell fully programmable keyboards right? The only reason they'd ever have media keys is if you made them have media keys.
Also winkeyless' bbb cases are 100% acrylic, the only metal is the screws and standoffs holding it all together.
Posting image for added reference.
Bad
But how bad?
The Anne PRO is $80. It has Gateron switches, 60% form factor and RGB backlights. That leaves you with $70 for keycaps, though it comes with some decent-ish PBT ones.
How should I know, it's not like I'm going to purchase some shitty LEET GAYMER keyboard just to review it
Not a bad option, thanks.
The cases have cutouts for the media key switches. There is no option in the store to remove them, although I could ask. I know Winkeyless is acrylic only, that is another issue.
>LEET GAYMER
Literally how? It doesn't have that aesthetic at all nor is it being sold with reds or anything gaymur-bait like that.
not him, but it literally looks like a chink corsair keyboard
hell, it might even be the same shit rebranded
So what you really mean is you want a fullsize without the four extra keys above the numpad?
how's the build quality? For some reason this board is a little off putting
Also I don't think it has gateron blacks, which is the only gateron switch i'd be interested in, blues are too loud, already have browns, and reds don't seem appealing
>chink corsair keyboard
So it's a cheaper corsair board? Great.
It had some issues with the stabilizers on earlier batches, but they've fixed that now. Apart from that, not much to complain for $80. The case is plastic, the keycaps are PBT with a nice texture, but they're not thicc PBT, and it's generally quite a bit lighter than other keyboards I own, but it is a 60% after all.
Don't think you can get it with blacks though. Seems like the only three options, even on Taobao, are reds, blues and browns.
literally recommended every time someone asks for a cheap keyboard
get it with gateron switches if you can find it
Good enough. Also uses all standard size keycaps so that's a plus.
fuck that might be a deal breaker...like 50% of the reason i'm looking for a new one is cause i want a different experience than blues and browns
How do gateron differ from cherry mx?
they're a lot smoother
still, the one you linked doesn't have actual cherry switches, but kailh knockoffs instead, which are similar to cherry switches but slightly worse
it's completely acceptable for the price though
Sorry, yes. No *dedicated* media keys. Pic above is why. Not interested in trying to match four redundant caps with the rest of the board.
Maybe you can try reds, though I'm not sure what you're looking for. I've also bought mine because I wanted something new, because I'm used to blues and don't like browns, so I got one with reds, which are incredibly smooth and very light.
I think i want something heavier, but i'll consider it thanks for the input and shit, twas helpful
I want to have sex with this keyboard.
So if I for example buy keycaps like these
They should fit?
Noob here, where can I buy a keyboard like this?
is a pok3r rgb in white good for $139?
Kaihua K16 for 60 bucks
that's the normal price for it isn't it
Can't decide between a Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional (Japanese layout) or a Topre Realforce. I've been using a Topre Type Heaven for a few years and I love the Topre switches. I want to upgrade to something better but I can't decide.
I like the layout on the HHKB (My fucking cat constantly presses buttons on my keyboard so needing the function keys is a plus) but I've heard that the typing experience on the Realforce is better.
don't get the jap shit. Just get the normal HHKB for those meme points
I like the layout of the Japanese version, though.
how do you guys feel about the 65% form factor
Where'd you get that mat?
The staggering is off, and I hope you love some mismatched legends. There are also some extra jap keys that are useless, but if you can deal with all those issues then go for it
Those gaps trigger me. I'd rather get something like a TADA68.
its a custom desk pad from InkedGaming
Not him but tbqh you can get any high-res image printed onto a big mat like that by the chinks for cheap.
I figured that would be the case. I'll check out that website.
the nice thing about it though is that you don't need to find non-standard keycap sizes for it.
That pad looks pretty shit to be honest. specially if he paid $25, which is what it seems to cost on that website. A custom chink one is $15 and it has stitched edges.
Then provide some links, famalam.
yes
winkeyless.kr
Nice. Thanks.
Gaps are nice, I wish more 65/75% boards supported two 1.25u keys on the right of the spacebar, leaving a 0.5u gap between them and the arrow keys.
Looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard. Which of these should I get?
>EagleTec KG010 (amazon.com
>Rosewill Rk-9000v2 (amazon.com
>CM Storm QuickFire TK (amazon.com
>Kaihua K16 (mechanicalkeyboards.com
second or third links
not 4, no matter the cost
this or the Tomoko
Sauce on the keycaps and specs of that keyboard jfc.
read the filename
I'll try out the browns and reds and see which I like more then decide to get after I try them out.
I want a Ducky ONE TKL but they absolutely jew you on the price where I am from. How much worse is a CM masterkeys pro s?
and I want a zz96, but we can't always get what we want. The CM is still a good keyboard.
Is a switch tester worth getting if I've never used a mech before (outside of rubber domes) and am planning to spend >$100 on one?
Has anyone tried out this particular one from WASD?
I thought about getting one too, but just ended up going to an electronics store and just hit some keys on their shelf displays.
>tfw no electronics store near you because you go to uni in the middle of nowhere

Gateron Blue (never used a mech so open to suggestions)

None, first into to mech keyboarrds
I'm fine with some chinese knockoffs.
How many local stores do you think would have Clears on their shelf displays? I'm guessing Best Buy wouldn't.
That's the switch I'm considering most strongly but comparing it with others would be nice, especially since it tends to be more expensive.
Non-meme keyboard coming through.
For real though I want to find an old Model M.
How bad are Cherry MX Brown switches?
Try them and compare them to gateron browns.
Don't, they are annoying.
magicforce
Why?
Got a friend who has one lying about, was thinking of asking for it. He doesn't even have a desktop.
Way too loud and in a very annoying way.
Not the user you replied to, but it's a matter of personal preference, really. If you like the really clicky feel and loud sound, then by all means get one, especially if you can get it for free. I can definitely see how some people could find it annoying, though.
I'm typing this post with on a Unicomp that I've had for about five months, and I really enjoy typing on it, but hearing a click every time I scroll with the arrow keys does grate on my nerves occasionally, and since I live in a college dorm all of my neighbors know when I'm on the computer late at night. I still like it a lot overall though. I would say borrow your friend's for a couple weeks and see how you like it.
I like that though.
Eh OK you make a good point.
What kind of key caps are those? Just got a filco a few days ago.
tai hao pbt
Get the filco high profile set from mechanical keyboards.
Hey you guys are good! They are Tai Hao PBT purple doubleshot!
So I don't have a hardware store nearby and I need to get a new board. Which should I get, cherry reds or cherry browns?
Are these available for $20 yet?
yes
Modern blues or Modern browns?
Depends on how loud you want it.
So HHKB2 or Topre Realforce?
Cheapest board with NKRO that isn't complete shit?
I like this shitty little Magicforce 68 I bought but I can't press W+Q+R so it ruins FPS games where I need to lean.
Oetemu blacks or whatever is in this thing are fine by me.
Yo /mkg/ what's a good keyboard that has azerty layout and is customisable enough ?
Don't care enough to switch to qwerty yet
GH60 is your best bet for customisability. with blanks or with whatever keycap set you already have.
ISO Filco with a custom controller. The controller is called a "Pegasus Hoof".
Leopold 660c
Opinions on ducky shine 4 cherry mx blue?
Yes
