I was going to go with the OnePlus 3t, but just heard that my carrier has a sale on Galaxy S7 edge that makes it the same price.
Which phone do you recommend?

If you are into rooting DO NOT BUY the S7 from the store. Buy the international if you can. Other than that, its a great phone and would recommend.
S7E if you want a good android experience with better hardware and software.
It's not 2012 anymore, touchwiz has gotten very usable now.
Also the Nougat update is top notch and the edge is annoying af. Get just the s7 not the edge

Oneplus phones are overhyped trash. I ended up selling my 1+3 and got myself an S7E to replace it.
It was such a big difference I was amazed since the hardware inside isn't so different.
I guess good quality software just makes that much difference.

Yep. My sister and a few coworkers are using S7 or S7E, it's pretty comfy now. So much better than on my old S2.

I love the build quality on mine. I've dropped it once or twice and I have never seen anything but small scuffs on the metal back. Screen has never broken or anything and it's very solid-feeling to hold in the hand.
Get a 3t m8 I just got one. Its a better experience for less money. Its a no brainier. Samsung phones are normie tier and are complete shit.

S7E is so far ahead it's not even funny. Specs don't mean shit when you don't have the software to utilise it well.
I've only ever seen op3t destroy the s7e in both benchmarks and loading times. These are actually well beyond what you'd expect from the slightly increased hardware. The software is much closer to stock android than touchwiz, and performs most similarly to the Pixel phone.
Using both phones, I've notice quite a difference in overall usage.

Both I believe, but I could be wrong. I also can't purchase the Exynos one for a reasonable price.
I don't think you can lease a phone anymore, at least in the US with the major carriers. It's all contract free but you have to either pay for the phone up front or monthly. Either way, you're paying the same.
That being said, more expensive doesn't always mean better. The big advantages of the S7 is the better screen, camera, and water resistance. Everything else is either subjective or clearly better on the 3t.
If you use the camera a ton, or live in a rainy place, or really really care about pixels, than you go with samsung.
If you prefer stock android, better hardware (at least in terms of processing power and RAM), and don't want to spend as much money, go for the OnePlus.
Personally, I'd hold off for a few months.
The OnePlus 5 is likely going to have quad-HD display, water resistance, the snapdragon 835, 6 or 8gb RAM.
At that point, the choice is only dependent on which version of android you prefer, design, and how much you're willing to spend.
For me, I prefer the Oxygen OS over Touchwiz and the design of the OnePlus line. Deciding not to spend twice the money for what I feel is a worse phone for me doesn't make me poor. It means I'm not paying double the price for a phone I wont enjoy as much.

Even thought you can't unlock the bootloader on the US S7E it's at least rootable and you can get rid of most of the touchjizz crap. No wireless charging automatically makes the OP3 a no go for me.

No be more informed. The S7s Engineering kernel got leaked which has the master decryption key and can be flashed onto the phone no matter what update the phone is in. The ENG Boot.img enables adb and root even with the phone having a password or what ever kind of security. root access = having access to /data partition which is where the passwords are located and you just delete them via rm command and your in.
note 5 also has the eng boot lurking publicly somewhere. The only secure phone right now that is not crack able is the nexus 6p, Pixel XL. however nexus 5x is compromised.
