>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.

Really? That blows... and yes I did mean T420

Uh.. Mostly internet surfing and trolling on YouTube but I will be learning C on my own at home..

If you're going to be using it at a desk most of the time, get a W series or T5xx with a nice screen.

For high mobility get an X230 or X230T.

2560p confirmed comfiest laptop.
The express card blank is the perfect size to store a sd card

How's the sound quality on X220?

I'm alright with onboard sound, but my onboard sound is ALC887 on my desktop. I'm going to plug in some headphones, I'm not exactly bothered about speakers.

Fan not spinning, T420 at 93c under Windows.

What program do I use to force fan to spin

>w series
i don't want an ultrabook~
i think i'll go with the T230T. but it's such an old model, what can i even do with it?

Dead fan, gotta replace. Just tested tpfancontrol, that's the conclusion I came to

What's better t530 or w530

Is an L520 a terrible purchase?

W series = T series + 2 extra ram slot + dedicated graphics + better power delivery

It's spinning now, but I'm not sure its actually doing its job

Are these temps OK?

W series is thicc mobile workstations, not ultrabooks. Think T series with more power and better screens.

Would be worth your time to replace the paste and check that fan is actually working well. Is it audible and blowing hard?

I got a t530 500gb i7 nivida for $280 with no love stains did I do good

You gotta stick your ear to the heatsink to hear it.

I remember it being much louder.

Paste is shit, I know for a fact. I haven't touched it since I bought it second had in Dec 2015

How shitty is the screen lad?

Cuckpad with communist botnet? R u dumb?

GTFO Applel cuck

Dell masterrace, poor poorfag

T420 eGPU i7 masterrace

Chinese botnet, also ugly and shit screen. Is it 2003?

they are all shit, the ccfls will have worse brightness. Get yourself a t520/t530 w520/w530 with b156w01 v.4. At least its a display that doesn't wanna make you want to kill yourself by just looking at the thing.

For you yes.
You also assumed I don't plug it into my monitor.

Chinese botnet for only me? Are you thic cucked? Gosh...

>buy laptop
>to plug monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse
>still talk about (((jews)))

Remove cffl, affs, and IPS displays

The rest is unusable trash

Lads, just bought a T420. What are some of the must checkups I should go through with this used laptop?

do you think I should just drop $3k on a P50?

No spend way less on one, especially considering that the P51 is out

Not unless you are actually a professional who travels a lot and needs to do intense 3D work while in hotels or on-site or something.

Buy one a couple of years old for $400-800 and get 80% the power.

Anyone know if the T430s heatsink is the same as a T420s? With Nvidia.

Looks different. Looks like the T430s has two heatpipes for the GPU and the T420s has one.

Don't quote me though.

How do I get my grabby little hands on a cheap P51?
hmm you're very knowledgeable about this... i know nothing about computers..

I'm not into any graphics work, hence don't need anything super fancy. I own an E6410 with 1280 x 800, and this screen sure doesn't make me want to kill myself. However, I'm not entirely happy with this machine for some non-display related reasons, might as well sell it and buy a T410 or something instead. As long as the screen in that something is not worse than my E6410's, I'm good.

>Remove cffl, affs, and IPS displays
Please elaborate. which thinkpad has an AFFS?

what screen?

I asked this in the other thread but are there any model IPS screens for the x230t without the image retention issues? Please respond. I really like the laptop besides the screen so I hope I can just swap a better one.

Talking about ExpressCard, does anyone with a T430 find the EC slot too tight when inserting cards? Does the T420 have the same issue?

cause they're chinkshit

They look very similar. I am looking for something that will dissipate heat better.

the bolt placement is different, how are you gonna deal with that?

I was just going to post that the mounting holes for the graphics look a little different. I'll probably just get the correct one for my T420s and mod it a bit, help it move more air somehow.

Does anyone know if there is a way to see all the different FRUs of the heatsinks for a specific model?

The 1080p HD screen

Make sure your hing screws are tight. There should be two of them on each side.

Refurb, ordered it today-- Did I do good?

not bad but it could be better

Ok so somehow this is completely flying over my head, but what RAM am I supposed to look for if I want to upgrade a T420?

SO-DIMM 204-pin DDR3 1333. 1600 might work, but not guaranteed.

How can I find one of those blanks? I've been searching on ebay for amazon and I can't come up with anything good that isn't also terrible shipping and expensive.

Could be worse, that's roughly what my old T43 would do and it didn't make a difference.

how do I test the battery? pretty sure I got sold a dud

Use Lenovo's energy manager. It will show you the remaining capacity and may in some cases be able to restore some of it.

you might have to wake it up from a sleeping state by repeated charge and discharge cycles

X200/s

umm, thanks, but apparently they were never stock, it's just a mod which is possible to be done and has been done by a few people, just like those alienware screens on T420

speaking of screen mods, however unrelevant to my interests, this thing some user mentioned in another thread seems pretty rad
>people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/thinkpad/led-kit.shtml
wondering why I have never seen this mentioned on /tpg/

x220 reporting in "on the road again" mode

Took pic yesterday

>>people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/thinkpad/led-kit.shtml
I wonder if you could hack your way into less battery consumption? Which btw efficiency is not the first thing I think about when I read the words "chinese backlight".

Clarification: Do not mean it in a derrogotary way, simply put, any alternatively engineered product designed to replace another, probably has no efficiency in mind, and the usage of word chinese I know everything is made in China, you know god damn well what I meant.

Just got a used X220 and the battery is hot garbage. What battery can I get that will last me 6-8 hours (web browsing, light indie gaming on Debian) that won't rape my wallet?

$79 original 9 cell from newegg.

On the other hand, since you got a used shitty battery, why don't you test a theory out we all have about putting in brand new 2500mah cells in your battery and report back results.

>youtube.com/watch?v=VrDnTXqoqjM
heres a guide

Seems like you're wasting an awful lot of vertical screen spcae with that huge task bar. On my X230 I have my task bar on the left to get as much vertical space as possible.

Besides, looks like you're running some Loonix. What kernel version do you use? What's your battery life?

Does the T420 fan with heatsink and nVidia GPU have a different layout than the regular one? And I just don't want skyrocketing temps

What's the point of the number lock (fn + NmLk1) on the X220 standard keyboard? All it appears to do is lock specials keys to the special key listed, but all those keys (e.g. 1/2/3 for j/k/l, or dash for semicolon) appear to exist on the keyboard already either directly or by shift-toggle. I don't get it.

You'lll definitely need a 9 cell.

Yes, it looks different. It has a seperate heat spreader for the dGPU. If you buy one with dGPU be prepared to put on new thermal paste. Even if it's refurbished. Replacing the thermal paste is usually not part of the process.

S-shoulder I do it?
Would Ebay take my money and scam?
Is the computer in good condition?

as little as I understand of electronics, any LED of whichever national origin will be more energy efficient than a CCFL lamp, that is, consume less power at identical light output

I still mostly swipe around with the trackpad instead of using the clit mouse. Is this bad

The condition is probably mediocre. X230t usually go for around $200 with those specs.

ebay won't take your money. If you buy via ebay you transfer the money directly to the seller so you should rather worry about shady sellers. That one's got good ratings though.

not same user but i lost $25 how do i get it back?

Is this good? ebay.com/itm/OEM-Lenovo-Thinkpad-Battery-45N1175-45N1026-X220-X220i-X230-X230i-44-0A36307-/122084835343?hash=item1c6cd2c00f:g:ZbMAAOSwZVlXsLbe

>all the posters in this thread have a combined net worth of under $1,000

>Seems like you're wasting an awful lot of vertical screen spcae with that huge task bar. On my X230 I have my task bar on the left to get as much vertical space as possible.
>Besides, looks like you're running some Loonix. What kernel version do you use? What's your battery life?

Its parted magic, latest version, Idk kernel, battery in Loonix is pretty shitty but I don't optimise it, that is live USB.

I measured with Windows 7 and Windows 10 though, playing video no radio brightness kinda low and sound through headphones, I get 8:30 on 7 and 6:30 on 10.

Not worth it, huh...

What about this one?

ebay.com/itm/12-5-ThinkPad-X230t-Core-i5-3320M-2-6GHz-320GB-HDD-4GB-RAM-WiFi-Win10/142270143824?_trksid=p2385738.c100677.m4598&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20160908110712&meid=170241b625724574a2957d8c64a3068e&pid=100677&rk=15&rkt=49&sd=142233131670

You're part of this thread too!

I make up $999. The rest is divided up between 32 other people.

it's not bad but if you try using the clit for a little while by keeping your hands on the keyboard, you find it's really nice to use. Center click to scroll and you never gotta move your hands. I find myself feeling crippled on laptops without it now and i've only been using it as my primary machine for 2 months.

*grabs hot boobs*

But I make $40k a year
Yeah I know it's not a lot but it's still good.

Stooop D:

I mean I use it sometimes, for scrolling for instance but I find myself switching between the two a lot. I don't have my fingers on the keyboard that much anyway

>Is the computer in good condition?
Are you actually blind ?

yes

gimme a break, i'm computer retarded!

9 cell plus slice for 20 hours

>5 lbs brick

That defeats the whole purpose of having a battery for mobility.

Are you a manlet, user ?

6-8 hours is normal for an x220 you tard
you can't recell the thinkpad batteries because apparently once the power is disconnected from the little computer inside it just 100% dies.
this

5lbs is 5lbs no matter who carries it

its a joke compared to portability of ultrabooks that weigh less than half as much

then buy one of those instead

im a manlet and i wear 10lb leg weights everywhere i go, what's your excuse?

I'm undecided as to whether or not ThinkLight is the greatest or stupidest idea ever.

What about you people?

I find it cozy

u think u are rock lee or some shit? dumb weeaboo

what's rock lee?

>What is reading comprehension

Maybe you didn't finish reading the first sentence, but I said my battery is USED. I'm getting 2 hours max out of this battery with the brightness at 40% on fucking Debian with i3. off yourself retard.

>debian
found the problem

no *fondles your nice tits more* :3

From what model in the x series onwards did they start adding space on the side of the keyboard?

>get guys look I brought my thinkpad outside
kys

stoooop ;~;
you're making them sore...

I take my thinkpad outside just because I know nobody would steal it, and if someone did I'd be a lot less sad than if they stole my main laptop.
you are a grown ass adult, what the fuck is wrong with you
