I'm tired of gmail, some alternative that is not botnet ?

why do servers have so many network cables in them?

like here for example

Can someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong with vim. Whenever I start it "vim somefile", the editor opens but I have to keep pressing Enter to scroll to the next line. It doesn't open the entire file visibly. Anybody else familiar with this?

why does my broadband modem get so fucking hot? without a case on i cant even touch any of the chips its so hot

Best book or work through online for Python 3?

I dont get this, why wouldnt the newer x5 cpu on the left not have virtualisation support? surely this is incorrect yes?

>how else are you going to connect stuff together? wifi? think of the issues that would cause
there are like 10 cables there. does he have 10 servers?

You don't understand what I mean.

Random question, but I don't know where else to ask. Maybe some one will know-

What's the standard US phone number format?
Like, there's a million formats and they all call the same number, but what's the actual format?

For example, I have a contact in my Outlook account, John Doe 1. His phone number is shown as +15555555555

I have another contact, Jane Doe, who's Contact is +1 (666) 666666

And some other guy, billy bob, his account could have the # (777) 777-777

I mean, dash, no dash, +1, no +1, parentheses, no parentheses, they all seem to work.

But if they are all used by people in the first place, then what's the actual format and proper usage of them?

well linus is a retard and didnt cut the cables, but you need more than 10 cables to connect 10 servers. also most of those cables look like power and extension boards (black ones)

who are you?

>Foobar EQ
Is there anyway to get it to display the system sounds as well?

Sorry. I'm about the VIm question. It's not to do with shortcuts. I know the most commonly used ones.

>Pic related.

The file is .Xresources (in this case) but vim doesn't open it all to read. I have to keep pressing enter to make the next line visible. As if vim doesn't see how big the terminal window is.

As a foreign tourist, can you travel freely between all states of USA or are there some limitations and controls? For example - If I go to California but then I decide I want rent a car and go to Texas, can I do it?

This doesn't seem normal at all.

Originally I thought this was a router issue but I checked some other downstairs computers and they looked way more stable than this. Maybe I'm an idiot or something, but I've only started having this issue since last week and now I lose internet connection very briefly for 4-5 seconds before it comes back. Streams tend to cut out a bunch too.

What gives?

Is there an user on Sup Forums that runs FreeBSD?

I want to install it bare metal. If you're such the user, do you have an IRC or an email/ IM service that I could contact you if I have questions? Or maybe we could do something together.

I need to buy a WiFi repeater/signal extender. Which is the best one I should buy? I always feel wary about getting the first results on Amazon.

As touristing goes, yes. Legally, states are to recognize virtually all contracts excluding Law licenses, medicine licenses, and a few other things...but If in the example you gave, you go to texas, under ordinary circumstances Texas will legally recognize all permissions you had in California such as a temporary drivers license, or car rent contract, or whatever.

Is there an idiot's guide to setting up/using TOR?

Not trying to do anything too out there, I just need to make a facebook account for something and want my usage of the site to be isolated to a separate browser that FB can't track me from.

>just use FF with noscript, self destructiong cookies and umatrix

I already use that as my normal browser, though I had to remove umatrix since it makes basically every web page unsable and unike noscript is all or nothing, thoug even with noscript I end up having to enable almost everything anyways just to get the bare minimum functionality.

Which sort of defeats the point, doesn't it?

Looking to root my android tablet and the only thing that claims to support rooting it is kingroot.

Is kingroot safe? They look to be both chinese and closed-source.

Worked for me.

If I boot Ubuntu or Mint from a USB drive but not actually install it, can I safely look at porn sites without fear of ransomware, keyloggers or similar shit?

Is life really worth living?

It is user; what's got you down?

What's a good resource for learning about Big O notation?

ALRIGHT I NEED THIS SETTLED. IS AM4 COMPATIBLE WITH ALL AM3 COOLERS?

No.
But hey, you're already alive.

I feel like I am setting myself up for crushing regret one day when I look back on all the fuck all that I accomplished.

Not enough information.

Try to isolate your diagnostics to one piece of the network at a time. Ie, can you reproduce when transferring just between the router and your computer? If so, the problem is between those. If not, it's on the router, between the router and the ISP, or beyond the ISP. Check your cables, router ports, router software, call the ISP. If it's beyond the ISP, there's nothing you can do but hope the ISP fixes their peering agreements or whatever

Also look at basic metrics like packet loss, and try simple diagnostic techniques like swapping out the cable.

What do the people who are serious about the whole Botnet thing even do for entertainment?
I'm not asking this as an implication that they are doing something shady, I'm just curious about how you use your computer when about half the possible sources of amusement on the Internet are considered Botnet.

I recently went to a programming challenge offered at my uni, one of the questions was this:

Given some number of pegs, write a program that calculates the maximum number of balls that you can place on those pegs given the following rules:
-A ball can only be placed if it either forms a perfect square with the ball underneath it, or it is the first ball on a peg
-Ball must be placed in order, from 1 to n. n being the highest possible ball that could be placed given a number of P pegs.

Write a program that returns the maximum number of balls place-able given P pegs. For example, 4 pegs would give the output
10
6 9 11
3 7 5
1 2 4 8

should return 11, since 11 is the highest number that can be placed.

Your code should return -1 if an infinite amount of balls can be placed...

OKAY: That was the problem we were given. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, bug detecting that an infinite amount of balls are place-able is actually just a clever way of trying to trick people with the Halting problem, right? It would be impossible to detect that a infinite amount of balls are place-able, unless you could form a formal proof that was some kind of upper limit, correct? Essentially, determining if you're stuck in an infinite loop is just a trick. Or is there some realistic way of doing this? Other than just making the program run for 1000000 iterations or something fucking retarded like that.

Is there a decent 32-37" 1080p TV out there with four or more HDMI ports that hasn't been discontinued?

I don't think you're meant to brute force it. You're probably meant to devise some rules to determine the maximum perfect square x^2 that can be formed with y pegs, and then work backward from there, or something like that.

Dashes and spaces are just a cultural convention like mm/dd/yy vs dd/mm/yy. You don't dial anything but the numbers. Other cultures group them like 4444.333 I believe.

I have a 6th gen iPod Classic (160 GB model) with Rockbox installed. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago when I would get random skips in songs. It only happened sporadically with certain songs at first but I am pretty sure it's getting worse.
>buy new CD
>rip to wav
>convert to 320 kbps ogg
>plays fine on computer
>copy to iPod
>properly dismount before disconnecting
>go to bed
>next day
>battery charge 30% (should be enough for a couple hours of playback)
>play on iPod
>skips every ~20 seconds on the first song, sometimes more often
>skips within 2 seconds of second song
>device unresponsive, can't pause, can't go back to menu
>hold menu+okay to reboot
>battery charge reported as 0%, shuts down immediately
>boot again
>immediate shutdown
>boot again
>battery charge goes up to 15%
>start playback
>rinse and repeat
Is it the files? Hard drive? Battery? Rockbox being a cunt about ogg files?

I have dual (sometimes even triple) monitors.

how do I rapidly move my cursor between screens. I am just using the mouse right now but its a pain in the ass. Maybe like a keyboard shortcut or something. reposting for new thread

Is it a bad idea to change the batteries(18650) of a laptop battery?

will using a usb to aux adapter improve sound quality vs just using the back aux port?

whats the best program for watching movies? Everytime people refer to VLC its usually as a meme but whats a better alternative?

commonly recommended are mpv or mpc-hc

I want to pick a good general purpose programming language that I can always use when I need or want to do some project be it for work, research or fun (a game, physics/life simulation). I want it to be fast, because I'll also be doing some ML and data analysis. I programmed sporadically during the last decade for school and uni and I was quite good with these low-level projects, but I'm pretty ignorant. I decided on C# as I figured it might be a good compromise between speed and modernity. Is it? (I'm clueless) And is it a good pick or would you recommend something else.

Also I think it's possible to write a program in C# and then write some speed-critical parts in C++. Could near C++ performance be reached this way? If yes, then how does one go about it, i.e. what tool to use to create a two-language program?

>lollipop 5.1
>twitter still instantly crashes, tried everything to fix
>chrome occasionally crashes
>messages crashes when deleting large conversations (300+ responses)
>gmail no longer syncs correctly
>just had a fuck-up where it miscalculated storage on the device, claiming I had 3 times as many apps installed
>took 20 minutes to reboot the phone

What's a computer?

A retarded robot

Update: I plugged the iPod into my PC and played the songs from the iPod. Prior to plugging it in the battery charge read 70+%. No skips, but I get random freezes in the playback (using mpv).
I checked that playback of the local files on the PC works fine (it does) and copied them to the iPod again. Without unplugging the iPod, I started to play back the new copies on the iPod and everything was fine.
Unmounted, unplugged, started playback on iPod... Skip within 5 seconds. Plug into PC, start playback... Freeze within 2 seconds.
WHAT THE SHIT

bumping this

You are going to die eventually anyways, might as well ride out the one lifespan you got.

i want to split a big word doc in 4 word docs

I'm upgrading from an lga1150 mobo and i5 4770 to a 1151 and 7600k cpu

Do I need to re-install my OS?
If so can I still access files on my drive with my old OS on it?

Can you access your saved passwords in Chrome? I want to jump ship but I don't remember any of my important passwords.

just click forgot my password and go through the process to get them changed

in c++, if I want to calculate with a variable that's part of a class, do I use *this?

i purchased a laptop but after receiving it the box had been opened and it has scuffs on it. what the fuck? sold as new too, is there anything against this under Australian consumer law?

Is it possible to do memory and cpu profiling on a already compiled program such as a game?

Not really. Unless you know the CMP size and have (expensive) .yrt editor youre pretty much fucked.

So I have no internet, and it gives me the icon with the yellow sign (win7) when I'm connected to the router via LAN, but when I connect the ethernet cable straight to my PC, it gives me the red cross icon, as if nothing is connected.

Does that mean the issue is cable related, or could it still be my ISP, since they've been fucking up a but lately, but never for this long.

I need matlab but the linux version craps out and will not start.
Which is less trouble - duo booting with windows, running a virtual machine with linux (on a t400 thinkpad lol) or trying to do the same things on octave?

*I mean a windows virtual machine under linux

Depends what you need to do but Octave is pretty alright. Python + Numpy is nicer IMO though.

Differential equations, part of uni stuff.
I will have to do a project so you can see why I don't want a minor incompatibility to fuck my scripts up when I send my stuff to the prof.

Is AM4 backwards compatible? I have an old AM3 CPU laying around and some spare parts from upgrading my rig over the years. If I could use this AM3 CPU in an AM4 motherboard I might build a secondary rig for shits and giggles or something.

Whats a good case with this kind of airflow? Seems like the logical way to cool a case.

Or better yet whats the search term for this kind of case so I can look for one myself?

Please respond.

Is it a requirement to use MATLAB? There are a couple differences between MATLAB and GNU Octave which is annoying.
If the prof can be persuaded to accept Octave scripts, try to do that. It's gratis, it's free, there are only minor differences that have no impact on the way your program works algorithmically.
Otherwise I'd say dual boot if you have the time to reinstall your GNU/Linux because you'll likely have to use Windows-only programs several times at uni and this way you sidestep virtualization issues that might come up when using VMs. If you're close to graduating and don't plan on using Windows again, make a VM.

Hows life going?

pls halp
i installed steam on my debian and now i cant open firefox or any video, or even run compton
it crashes into the login screen
pls ;-;

Thanks for the answer.

What is "CMP size" and a ".yrt editor"? I was thinking of profiling the game Dwarf Fortress, since what effects the game speed seems partially a mystery to the community.
Do you think it would be viable to just overclock/underclock ram and cpu and test different combinations?

Shit, but do you know how to troubleshoot the internet issue correctly?

Install Steam from the repo, not the website.

i followed the instructions from the debian website
i removed all that shit anyway
why is it crashing now ;-;

How would one make a bot that gathers data from a web page? The difficult part is that data needs to be accessed by clicking individual buttons on a web page that add data to a div via ajax. My shitty PHP skills are not going to work here. Can anyone at least guide me in the right direction?

TLDR How to gather data from web page that uses ajax to retrieve each data set after you click a "get-data" button?

I highly doubt it.
It's a completely new architecture,

i upgraded the packages and now i cant even login
just a black screen
i could loging to 3.2 kernel under recovery mode
halp

>debian is a stable platform

i did upgrade to the latest kernel so its not really debians fault

Stable != dumbass-proof
Read the instructions closer.

Can I use my Windows Phone (Lumia 640XL) or iPhone (4 and 5c) as a webcam?

I would like to somehow get it to function as a webcam that I can use whilst making a Skype call on my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Is it normal for a [email protected] (1.234v core) to get to 90c while running intelburntest 10 times with very high stress level? Cooler is a hyper 212 memevo

Which C do I learn? I know Java and I'm not too autistic. I mostly want to write simple, text based vidya and some simply office software.

There are 3 versions of C: C89, C99, and C11. All named after the year the standard was ratified or whatever.
Always use that latest one. So C11.
