We're at the point now where Chrome and FF are bloated and focusing too much on proprietary, browser specific things while IE11 is the lightweight app that stays out of the way and just gets it done

What I did notice is that Edge feels much snappier when just scrolling through page.

Nope, Chrome is faster. I don't use it because I can't live without certain Firefox addons, but Chrome is factually faster than Firefox.

If you for some reason don't believe this, install an addon on either browser that measures and shows exactly how long it takes to load and render a webpage, then load page of your choice up in both browsers. Chrome will be faster.

Loading ads faster isn't a feature. FF also pre-fetches data from a certain number of links on the current site making loading slightly slower. Disable this and a few features on FF and it will be just as fast. Benchmarks show only a 5-8% difference between nightly firefox and nightly chrome/chromium which isn't a significant difference especially if you don't launch over 20 tabs regularly.
