Stupid Question Thread:

So lets say I have a folder with thousands of small files in them. All of them are named a little differently. About 15% share a same filename string prefix, but most do not.

How would one go about putting all files into a folder named from their prefix? For fun, lets assume files sharing a prefix string will go into the same folder.

>inb4 fuck u op, this isn't a homework thread.

Use the prefix as a delimiter

Search by the same prefix?
Select all?
Move into the new folder?

We're talking about X number of files (around a few thousand), of which 15% share a prefix. So for arguments sake there are 6000 files, which means there are at least 5100 different prefixes.

I need a command string which will put all of these 6000 files into essentially 5100 seperate folders. (these numbers are simply to prove a point.)

The files are thankfully much more merciful than that, there is a whole " - " delimiter inbetween the prefix and filename.

%prefix1% - %filenameblabla%
%prefix1% - %filenamejojo%
%prefix2% - %filenamegotgot%

Essentially there would be a folder named "prefix1" containing both files with the respective prefix, a folder for "prefix2" and so on.

why isn't captcha working with Sup Forums X?

keeps saying no valid captcha

so the retarded IT department at work decided to restrict access to everything google, which is not a huge deal since I can use other search engines, but how do I view/solve captchas??? (Currently at home)

Did it ever occur to you that your retarded IT department did it so you do what you're paid for instead of browsing neoreddit?

Which captcha are you using? I'm on v1 and it's fine.

Since it seems all new laptops these days are shipping with W10, is there any known brand that will not support W7 drivers anymore?

I was looking up an Asus Rog but a user review & Asus's response lead me to believe that they won't support W7 drivers anymore. Is this just a case of user stupidity or are brands dropping support?

Just make some dumb script.

I need a new laptop.
>quad core intels with good dgpus: 700+ dollars
(something like the DELL Inspiron 15 7000)
>dual core intels with ok dgpus: 500-700 dollars
(like Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG)
Will the former go on sale soon, or not until august? I haven't bought a laptop in over 5 years. Don't know if I should bother waiting that long, or just pay around 700 during an upcoming sale.

I imagine the parts for a mini-ITX build are ludicrously expensive and novice builders need not apply?

Lads, retarded Sup Forumsermin here.
I just built my PC and it turns on but it doesn't boot at all; it's build all correctly and stuff since it's just Lego, there is power that goes through the Motherboard and to the GPU and CPU fan and the case fan.

The motherboard light and the HDD lights and all that jazz light up and all that, the fans go off and are working too; but the monitor doesn't get any video output from the PC whatsoever.

Since I was reusing a HDD from a past PC, I decided to get another HDD and format that and get that ready incase it was drivers or something stopping the boot or something. I resetted the CMOS and all that.

Make sure you're using the video output from the card and not from the mobo. If so then try removing the card & using the built-in video to see if your card is the problem.

I tried that hours ago with removing the GPU and testing the mobo.

The video output is done correctly, DVI into the GPU all that jazz.

Will a TV with a 3.5mm audio output transmit the sound from an HDMI input (laptop)?

My media PC headphone jack is broken and my current TV sends the HDMI audio through it's RCA output just fine, but I'm going to be buying a new TV soon & all the models I'm looking at only have 3.5mm audio out (not RCA).

So no POST at all? Do you hear any telltale beeps or see any diagnostic LED on the mobo light up?

the one where you select pictures of something the captcha asks for, I just keep getting no valid captcha right after what seemed to be a confirmation that I picked things right

I basically can't post with Sup Forums X on, captchas works fine without it.

Nothing at all on the motherboard; the motherboard's light does not change whatsoever.

The Speaker on the case is plugged in and all that but no beep whatsoever. No POST at all on the monitor, don't get a chance to edit any BIOS settings or whatever. I'm just there stuck looking at a computer that turns on, no POST, no beep no nothing.

(seizure warning)
If your screen was blinking like this, what part would you replace to fix it?

Best planner app for your phone?

mv *foo* /whatever

Sure that the cable & monitor themselves are good? Have another PC (known working) to check both?

Where do you guys watch your porn?

They were working prior to this build, the last PC was using them and the cables and all that were working on them. I'm going to test a HDMI that has been working literally a second ago; so if that works, I'm not sure what else.

I have no clue what the issue is.

How do I split a powershell terminal into several prompts in a single window? I have tried googling it but found nothing. Does anyone know if it's even possible?

Huh, that's weird. Try opening it up and go to replying and capchas, select v1 and see if that one loads properly. If not it could be Sup Forums-x is conflicting with another extension or it's posting/replying is fucked somehow.

tried different versions captchas, the noscript captcha and no dice, I don't have many addons, just noscript and ublock origin, and greasemonkey for Sup Forums x, tested with noscript disabled and it's the same shit

Can i put an am3 cpu to an am4 socket?

Made some progress (I think)

The Case Fan was plugged into Motherboard; I unplugged it and used the molex connector and just hooked it up to the PSU; the bootup sounded better (like it does on my PC at home) and the hard drive actually seemed to be in use from the sound of it rather than the silence I've heard all this time.

Ask your mother.

usually in my bedroom with the door shut, user
that's where my computer is after all

Is there any way I can resize my desktop to show up smaller in my monitor?
Like this?

Using windows and a nvidia card.

This is why you use linux. You could do this straight away in one line in bash.

Brother's trying to make a recovery image to restore his laptop to factory settings (it's stuck at the logo for hours on end, rendering it unable to reboot and that was after it had issues with something as simple as playing music), but it says a flash drive isn't a valid device. What gives? Do we have to use a CD or DVD?

Hey /sqt/, I just fixed this notebook but I am planning on starting to use Linux! So, can I run Ubuntu or ElementaryOS on this thing? Sorry, but I'm not very good on understanding PC specs.

Thanks in advance!

GNU/Linux*
Linux is just a kernel, GNU bash is not included.

they all should at a base level but stuff like battery optimization, touch screen drivers, etc might be flakey. Honestly go for a business laptop and they'll have support for as long as you need

Ii need microsoft office and it's $115 on amazon. How does the download only version work with the license key? Can I reuse it on another computer one day?

what is a kernel?

Same as but for mac, I'm currently using a 40" tv because my monitor died.

You can run Crysis on it, not much else.

So I tested tomb raider anniversary out on my new intel nuc i3. It ran perfectly but the tiny fans kicked on and they top of the box was hot so I shut it off. Is it probably a good idea to avoid putting it under that much stress?
