I guess they're ok if you're watching on a 20" SD CRT TV in Pakistan or something, but otherwise I don't see why people use that stuff

Yes, that's exactly what it is. They are Scene encodes at best, Yify encodes at worst. All my normie relatives have FireTV sticks preinstalled with Kodi + Add-Ons.
I usually stick to HDB encodes, so I can't stand it either. But I can see the appeal to normies who have only ever watched bootlegged DVDs and netflix streams.

The new trackers are redacted (RED) (used to be called passtheheadphones) and Apollo (APL) (used to be called XANAX).
Currently RED has a lot more torrents and better quality (Although APL is still really good). You can take an interview just like the what.cd one, they have a site just like whatinterviewprep at interviewfor.red

NotWhat (NWCD) emphasizes quality, sane rules, organization (wrt to folder naming) and their gazelle setup is nicer than the other two, but they were late out of the blocks, so the selection is not quite there yet as they are on red and apl.

not him and not on nwcd, but I like the sound of their slow and steady growth and approach to quality. as apl is finding now, growth has to be organic and sustainable, otherwise, it's just froth. it's going to be interesting to see how the music trackers stand in 6 months time.
